GDKP would be interesting if you couldn't buy gold... the fact that you can buy gold from Blizzard and third-party sellers so it's literal Pay to Win loot, everything about that is bad.

Agreed. In a "normal" environment that would be interesting. A server whose economy hasn't been warped by botters and gold buyers. But we know thats just a dream.

    • @Goose8585
      @Goose8585 8 месяцев назад +6

unfortunately the entire AH is P2W, so are epic mounts and leveling your professions and the list goes on.
Sadly the people buying gold for GDKPs will still buy gold for the 300g BoE BiS items or PreBis, for the 50gold Black Lotus Flasks, for their 1000g Epic Mount and the list goes on.
While i don't care about GDKPs because I'm purely a WCL Parse Monkey so we do guild speed runs and so on, when you have to remove community liberties to help fix things like RMT, you are going down a potentially slippery slope. It's like removing the ability for all cars to go above the speed limit to prevent people from speeding on public roads. (extreme example i guess).
But hey, blizz has to start somewhere, and trying out new policies in the experimental leveling phases of SoD sounds good enough to me.

@@MikeyPaperno, buying gold should be. Nothing wrong with gdkp’s. You can make a lot of gold in game. If I owned WoW, I would hire a major accounting firm to review ALL player trades and transactions. I would confiscate any gold piece that I suspected was associated with RMT. That gold would then be redistributed to all players who never participated in RMT. I would award those players with a special title, too. All players who bought gold would have 100% of their gold removed and I would "tax" them for all the gold they ever bought. They would log in to a negative gold amount. 100% justice. I would also publish the findings so outside groups could study the misbehavior and weigh in on the issue. I would not ban anyone.

My experience (and my problem) with GDKP is that unless you are the raid leader, it is frowned upon to raid to make gold. I had a hunter main and a pally alt (in case a healer didn't show). So I had one character every week to run a GDKP with. When I ran it with my pally to gear him up: no problem. When I ran it with my hunter, (who out-geared everyone) to make gold, I was bitched at for not bidding on anything.

I really wish people that do GDKPs and have never bought gold, didnt get labeled as gold buyer/sellers. I have never bought gold and exclusively do GDKPs. I've done them the entirety of TBC and Wrath. I've always had bis gear and whatever else I wanted. I have shadowmourne, invincible mount, near bis, and more. I have a healthy 400k+ gold. I started with about 5k gold and didn't buy for several runs, and then from there, you're good. As long as you don't overspend, you'll always come out ahead. I know a lot of people buy gold, but I know people I have run with for years that never have and some that spend more real money on gold than a rational person should. I honestly believe people that complain about GDKPs, haven't really ever been apart of a GDKP community or they wouldn't feel the way they do. I have ran with the same people every week for years as part of a GDKP community. They are my guild and my friends.

For anyone except the one player with tons of gold, GDKP's are a waste of time, you're just helping other people get geared up and never yourself. It's a fundamentally unfair system that means that the lowest players will never get a chance to compete.

GDKP was essentially the reason I quit Wrath Classic.
I was unable to commit to a raid schedule due to school, so pugging raids seemed like the way to go. The only problem was that 95% of all pug runs were GDKP. I was geared, had good logs, and knew the fights. However, when I asked to join the GDKP runs, the question I was always asked was, "What's your budget?" They wanted a person to buy alot of items and spend alot of gold, essentially a whale, which I was not.
I did not buy gold, and it was noticeable. When a budget of 10k gold is not enough and I was told to bring at least 30k (beginning of Wrath, lol), then you know something is wrong. GDKP runs were perhaps once a good thing, but most of them have lost their way and are now a glorified pyramid scheme for the raid leader to make gold. The overall attitude from players in GDKPs is also some of the worst.

When you raid you focus, call mechanics, watch for repositioning, and do your job as a member or not at all and get kicked, then guess what your stuck in town like a pleb chatting or doing your dailys/weekly etc. You don't get better gear, you don't get the clear, your paying sub money to just in town and not play the game.

The fact is that if blizzard actually solved the bot problem
    1. Gold buying would die by about 90% if not more
    2. The gold inflation issue would be dead
    3. GDKPs would die by about 95% and the ones that would remain would be with bids that are reasonable.
    4. The sense of value for players accomplishments would be able to remain in tact knowing that they didn't waste their time by not buying gold.
99% of all that is awful about wow could be solved by killing the bot problem. If that is possible, I don't know, but by god I wish they would try harder if only to show that they cared.
Alternately if you could kill the ability for players to RMT, by immediately and effectively perma banning those that do, it would achieve ALMOST the same goal. There are still people that bot for personal use which would weaken #4 but still be better than nothing. I also think this would probably about as hard of a task to achomplish.

Gold inflation will happen regardless, as classic has very few gold sinks once you buy your mounts. Even if no one botted, gold would still be generated faster than it was removed. Inflation in itself is quite overblown issue anyway imo. Sure, it trivializes the effort to get the epic mount, but beyond that it does not have a huge impact. Your consumables will have a big number attached to their price, but at the same time all the things you could farm for gold sell for ridiculous amounts as well, so you wont be farming for any longer to be able to afford consumables than you did when everything was 1g.

people honestly looking at this all wrong. GDKP is how the normal player CAN compete with a gold buyer. This is how alot of non-buyers sustain gold, and clear raids. We are the core raiders of a GDKP and like asmon said u can never get rid of the gold buyers. So sell them the gear ezgg

  • @SimonizeShow

I played in 2+ GDKP raids each week in Ulduar, TOGC, ICC, and now in SOD. I never bought gold and simply used my payouts from each raid to buy items in the next raid. 32 GDKP raids in SOD so far, average payout of 13.34 gold, average expenditure of 12.21 gold per raid. It really doesn't seem to me like these raids are infested with gold buyers and it is absolutely not the case that you need to buy gold to compete. I think many people form opinions about GDKP without participating in them very much.

All I've done are pug gdkp's since week 2 (2-3 characters) and I can 100% guarantee you there has been at least 1-2 RMTers (that being generously low on the count) in every single one of them. Just last week someone put on autobid and paid 100g for Dagger of Willing Sacrifice & 50g for Tome of Cavern Lore and said they were willing to pay up to 300g just for the dagger; tell me they dont buy gold. I've seen people pay ~50g for 2nd-3rd bis items like its nothing. If you dont raid with the same group in your gdkp's every lockout you get to see the truth when it comes to rmt & gdkp's. So far SoD hasnt come close to TBC & Wrath when it comes to gold buyers in gdkp's but let them continue and it will once we get to 60 and are raiding AQ & Naxx. So far my highest payout was 46g and my lowest was 13g with an average of around 18g.

Gold selling is a symptom of how the game was designed. The only way for Blizzard to tackle this issue is to make gold as useless as possible. While there is a range of items on the market for people to buy with gold, most rare items, dungeon/raid gear, and special weapons should be character bound and non-tradable. While I know a lot of people won't really agree with that 100%, Blizzard should only do that with certain types of items, and leave the rest for open trade. (old content, mats, crafted, food, etc) That way, people will focus more on content, earning their stuff. Yes, people will still pay for gold, yes people will pay for carries, and yes, people will probably sell accounts, but it'll be more like a backdrop issue than something that is incredibly intrusive to the player's experience such as grinding your life away only to be one upped by a gold seller. No one should have to deal with that. Make gold very easy to get and very useless; then there is no reason to sweat needing to buy it or farm it out as much.

If you don't like getting out bid by gold buyers, then don't run raids with them. There will always be "pay to win" that's the way of the world. The people who have the most money buy success, that's just how it is, and blizzard will always have a financial incentive to cater to them. Blizzard has nothing to gain by banning gold buyers and farmers. It costs money to play whack a mole with gold sellers and buyers. And why should they spend money to cater complainer who will keep playing whether or not they stop it?
If you like games that aren't pay to win, I suggest you start playing old console games, because that's the only place you're going to find them.

I've thought for the longest time that Blizzard is selling their own gold as a side hustle. Of course they don't wanna ban the gold buyers, they're the ones forking the majority of the money towards Blizzard with gold buying, shop purchases, subs (probably constantly buying the 6 month and/or annual subs to flex the assets they get from them). These "whales" are literally people who are as bad as an addicted gambler just throwing money at whatever and whoever to collect the best stuff. I literally think that asking Blizzard to ban gold farmers/sellers is asking them to fire/ban their own employees and best customers (by employees I mean I think the biggest reason botting is such an issue still in the game is because they're incentivizing gold farmers/bots to do what they do). Why would Blizzard want to diminish their own returns on capitalizing on their assets in and out of game? Of course they're never gonna stop this. Of course they're gonna punish the players (who aren't their preferred players) over the ones actually forking tons of money at them. It's been so obvious to me for years and years. No I don't have evidence, but it literally just makes sense and it's the only thing that does. Why would they only go after certain sellers and only select buyers? Cuz those sellers are the competition, and those buyers were buying from the wrong sellers. A majority of buyers don't get punished unless they get it from the wrong place or they blatantly tell on themselves and then Blizzard has to make an example out of them to pretend that they care to save face. The fact that people believe it's only players and other no name/foreign companies doing this boggles my mind. They couldn't even do it at the scale it's being done unless Blizzard was blatantly turning a blind eye to it while allowing them access to their assets, and they would only do that for one reason: profit.

It's all player-made money. Whether you sell portals, sell summons, sell rare/valuable crafts, sell rare/valuable items, or do GDKP's. Almost NO ONE is making their money by farming mobs and vendoring the drops. It's all player-made. When 100 people buy something for 1g from 1 person and suddenly they have 100g. The problem isn't that these money-making methods exist or work, the problem is botting. GDKP's are just a symptom of the illness of botting, but Blizz doesn't want to get rid of bots because they pay subs (since the token changes) and make the quarterly numbers look good for investors. I used to run GDKP's for the money so I DIDN'T have to buy gold. I payed for my epic mount in Classic from GDKP's, picking up whatever scrap loot people didn't want anymore on the cheap. Some people do GDKP's because they're well-organized and the money investment encourages people to stick around, often making GDKP runs a better and quicker overall raiding experience. Do some people buy gold to buy loot in GDKP's? Absolutely, maybe even most of them. But the problem isn't GDKP's, it's the economy and botting which crowd the market and deflate gold.

Otherwise its like DKP that you can share across all your characters and with any raidgroup, and not care about guild drama, and get any items you want, for any spec, again without drama. Also for hybrid classes that are forced to heal in raids, this is great as they can actually farm for the items they want for other specs instead of being last in line for them and having no other options.
