There are Shaman tanks in Classic Era, not just in SoD. They have much better tools in SoD, but so does everyone there. I've been in a dungeon with a Shaman tanking on HC a few times, the highest level one being ST. I was a healer for one of those runs (SFK), and the tank definitely took more damage than a warrior or bear would, but it's not a significant problem because leveling content is easy, and while I had stop to drink more, so did the tank, and having to drink 5 times instead of twice in a dungeon is absolutely fine. I didn't heal in ST, so I'm not sure how much of a problem it was there, but I assume it was similar. In terms of threat, Shaman probably have more single target threat generation than the normal tanks (at least against things not immune to nature), and at higher levels when there are larger pulls they have enough tools for AoE threat to keep mobs off the healer, and focusing down targets one at a time should mean the DPS don't need to worry.
in realy liked tanking as shaman, the bigest problem was mana related pauses, but other than that had a lot of fun, even in raids as offtank somewhat viable.
What an excellent video. I've been thinking about this very topic quite a bit. There are so many versions its confusing to know what to play. In my opinion, you ended with the absolute most fulfilling and rewarding version. If you've played WoW a good amount, but never tried HC-SF, its such an incredibly fun challenge: Just getting bags, and farming enough gold for spells, is so challenging, but rewarding. Really really fun. I play very little retail, but tons of Classic, Cata, Seasonal, Some Era even, but I always find my way back to hardcore. Thanks for the great vid!
As much as people love to say that one or the other mode that they don't play is "dead", one of Xaryu's recent videos just proved how false that is imo where he checked a lot of different servers. There's a lot of people playing era, a lot of people on Hardcore, a lot of people on SoD, a lot on Cata, and a lot on Retail. It's just a great time to be a WoW fan and the fact we have so many options is a great thing.
@@dunkelwalde695 You're joking right? Half of all the posts in the Classic subreddit before the announcements were about SoD, and servers allow for 20x the population that they did back in 2004, Blizzard themselves even confirmed that a "low" population server currently would have more players than a full server back in 2004. Put it this way, if they didn't keep making money from people playing these things, why on earth would they keep them running or make more of them? They make more and keep them running because people DO play them. But sure, dishonest.
Are rogues in classic still on set energy ticks like it was back when I played release? And you still need to actually be behind enemies to use backstab and ambush?
I haven’t played wow in a year. I’m wanting to come back for classic wow and looking forward to it. Watching these videos are great for a quick overview of the game status.
I wouldn't be surprised if the MoP remix is a test for replacing classic going forward. I'd actually be happy with a "rebirth" feature like they have in Diablo 3. Let me play through a couple months and go back to my regular bank and gear/collections when that's done.

yeah 100% it is, both cata and retail are very new player friendly, but cata doesn't have all the confusing shit that retail has once you reach endgame

@@Thorskywalker420 thats fair. im just saying there is servers out there not as good as if blizz did it. i dont think they will open a tbc server anytime.
I tried HC once. Got to level 34, suffered a DC and died. The general mentality among players there is: 'That sucks. But we've all been there. Roll again and try to do better.' I didn't try again. It would be one thing if I lost my character due to an error in judgment on my part, but I lost it to a disconnect and all motivation to 'go again' with it. People who consistently play HC are a different breed and I have no place among them, lol.
This is ez question, play cata classic because when mop tskes over it will be horrible so to prevent Total alienation dip into retail on new expansion release
@@Miami_Vicee Those would be mostly dead as well. People don't seem to realize how quickly Classic loses it's players. Many people try it out, but quit very soon. If you look at the shareholder's graph, after Classic launch it was the steepest drop in subs in WoW history. Even worse than Shadowlands.
If you're not certain at all that you want to play the game at all, They have it set up free to play to level 20 and then you make your choice. It's the basic game and start and where you go is up to you.
Just answering to the first second of the video without hearing the rest You have Vanilla, Cata and Retail Within Vanilla you got Vanilla, Hardcore and Season of Discovery. Within Cata it's just Cata Within Retail you have Retail and Pandaria Remix Also retail would technically allow you to play majority of old content (previous expansions). I mean more for the campaign aspect of it. But all of these have their own advantages.
Back then started WoW with WOTLK and played it until the end of MOP. The same journey for me again started with Wrath classic and will end with MOP classic.
@@wmcarter6096 It very much is. The new starting zone explains everything. That's why some people are often complaining about handholding. Unlike Classic where you need addons or constant googling for most quests and basics. And you still learn your rotation wrong.
Agree to disagree. Rotations almost don't exist in classic it's so easy. Of all the versions of wow, I think retail is the most overwhelming because it's so bloated with systems upon sytems and currencies and more complex rotations. How do you get a classic rotation wrong? It's the easiest form of the game.
@@wmcarter6096 That's the point. We had no idea that rotations didn't exist. We thought all of our spells had good dps/dpm and had to be mixed and weaved. It was a shock and disillusion for many to find out that they've been playing their class wrong all this time since Blizzard was incompetent to do class design. Most DF systems are irrelevant for gameplay, all the borrowed power has been removed. You seem to be stuck in a shadowlands mentality, when there were many systems and borrowed power. Legion had systems upon systems and is considered the best exspansion, since complexity is interesting while the lack of bloat is boring.
hey can someone tell me for the MoP transmogs how long would it take to get juat a mount or 2 or do i even have time to try n get anything? if so ill get on right now pre order and get some xmogs n some mounts hmu if u can tell me
I’m done with retail honestly, it was hard enough coming back from lynch king and figuring out how to even play and I’m still literally confused about everything. I did however realize leveling to 80 is too easy, gearing is too easy, and delves requires you to move backwards on campaign to pass tier 3. Characters are mass OP over others and If I were to take a short break my gear would be useless, just no longer worth the premium monthly to pay. Going to classic Hc and if that doesn’t satisfy I’m done with wow all together.
Honestly I'd get back into WoW if they could make it where you could play all of the previous versions constantly instead of just timed like remix. I feel that more of a me thing because I have been a bit spoiled after playing Final Fantasy 14 since it does let you play from the beginning on the game on ward with an optional skip item that can max out a class and skip the story all the way to current.
I still play, sometimes retail, sometimes wotlk/cata sometimes vanilla, sometimes sod. The thing is that no version is good for me anymore. I'm probably addicted to the best mmo ever made even though it bores me to death. The best fun I've had in the last X years was phase 1 of SOD. We need a new game...
Do i Need do Play Classic und tbc and Wrath to understand cata? Or do i get the storys of them while playing the beginning Levels of cata Server and when i Hit the Level of cata the Story of it Beginns ?
I might be wrong because I’m speaking from my experience of playing those addons when they were first released (so it was way too long ago) BUT as far as I remember you don’t need to know anything about tbc and wotlk. And I mean anything, really.
I started WoW from the beginning all the way up to "the battle of azeroth" which totally lost me. I was in high end raiding guilds and lived to raid..... Had a high end priest, then switched over to a dark knight lost interest and now that the kids are grown I wanna play again but feel i'll be totally lost 😞
I’m coming back from last playing in shadowlands, and I chose to do season of discovery… man I am so glad I did. It’s so much more chiller compared to whenever I was playing in shadowlands. Don’t get me wrong I kinda like that stuff, but right now I’m just trying to lay back and kill some mobs.
I’m just afraid playing SOD that when all is said and done our characters will stay on dead sod realms. You think we will just lose gear/runes and go to classic era?
I cant lie. I went back to WoW just the other day. I had a rogue who was in BFA content and i felt so lost. I know it was weird to go play pandaria remix but i wont lie if i said wasnt enjoying it. Its interesting and fun imo
I enjoyed sod for a while, but phase 3 was awful. The servers have been dead for awhile waiting for p4. I quit and enjoyed dabbling in era and hc a little bit. Those servers haven't "exploded", but the pops are rising and there were plenty of people to level with.
If they did all they old outdated dlc in the remix style, i honestly think it would bring back a shit ton of players. I've tried multiple times to get into the game but it just irks me that's there's soooooo much content (which most of the fanbase agrees that its the best wow produced) that's dead content now. That remix thing sounds PERFECT for it. I'd feel way more confident investing In the future of the game if I could share a glimps of it's past.
I want to try Cata but seems overwhelming to me since I skipped Wrath. So many new abilities, abilities where you do x when this ability procs, glyphs, different stats and stat weights and then everyone plays so hardcore I don't feel like anyone is graceful enough to give you time to learn how to play. Classic and SoD is just easier. A bunch of abilities with SoD but you don't have access to them all at once which cuts out decisions in combat. I just like the simpler and easier style of vanilla, SoD and TBC myself.
I agree the simplicity of vanilla can be a breath of fresh air. That being said, I'm enjoying Cata for what it is and am enjoying the raids a lot (Minus points for BoT trash). Thankfully, my guild is taking heroic progression pretty casually since we're more of a social community. I think the key to enjoying any version of WoW is to find like minded people and play at your own pace. I've burnt out on each Classic release and later realized the game was actually a lot of fun; I was just playing way too much or min/maxing too hard.
i have a BIG big itch to play, especially Classic where people 'enforced' some rules on an existing server for people to make new characters from scratch, and stuff. But i love football too much and want to watch all EURO 2024 games. Oh well. Maybe after the cup.
It makes me very sad that SoD servers are ghost towns right now. I cant blame players when they put those exp bonus buffs in and then added incursions, it caused everyone to level cap in an afternoon. They really fumbled the ball with the exp buff and incursions. Just let players level normally.
Its not bad. I started a week late and have been slowly leveling at my own pace and exploring. Im playing a dk for the first time. Kinda cool to go back and solo old raids for xmog. I might raid or I might not. Kinda just waiting for phase 4 of SoD
They'll definitely do MoP classic. I think Cata classic proved that, even controversial expansions have their fans and MoP was far more popular than Cata in terms of people's opinion nowadays. I took Cata Classic (especially with it having a pretty fast life cycle over by early 2025...) as them just saying yeah MoP is on its way.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate just how phenomenally well groomed WillE's beard is in this? Magnificent. Magni Bronzebeard would be proud to have you in the council.
I stopped playing Retail about a year ago. Since then I’ve leveled a rogue in classic hardcore. At the moment I’m currently playing Cata and having a ton of fun running heroics and completing the raids.
They definitely shouldn't do MoP Classic UNLESS its as a seasonal server like Season of Discovery. Look while a strange argument could be made for Cataclysm Classic, there is no defending Mists of Pandaria Classic; as good as MoP was it isn't a Classic expansion so it shouldn't have a dedicated classic server for it.
I mean isn’t that kind of already what it is? Season of Discovery is scheduled to last for about 1 year long total. Cataclysm classic and likely all other classic expansions are planned to last about 1 year as well. They aren’t technically listed as seasonal servers but they with each expansion being a new season.
In what world is there an argument to be made for cataclysm and not MoP?? I guarantee you MoP is in way more demand that cataclysm. I’d bet the house on that. This is a wild take

None of those were "a lot".
Yeah, very dishonest. None of those have a high player count. Especially SoD and Era.
Skull Rock (Horde) - US Hardcore, is a great server. If you're interested in trying Hardcore, lots of great guilds to help you get started.
Whitemane’s Wotlk servers are packed full of levelers if anyone is missing how fast Wrath went into Cata.
As of having my computer crap out on me so many years ago and well life happening. I havent played since the release of mist of pandaria. This video was super helpful. And has inspired me to make a build and get back to the lands of azeroth. Thanks for what you do.
Im about to start playing wow with 3 friends and its our first time playing the game. We decided to go for classic cataclysm, do you guys think its the right one to start with?
Shoot, try them all lol
yeah 100% it is,
both cata and retail are very new player friendly, but cata doesn't have all the confusing shit that retail has once you reach endgame
@@Brejas03 aight thanks
i have a question, if i play WoW classic and then go to other WoW like the war within, do my character got transfer? or its entirely new game
WE NEED TBC ERA SERVERS!
Agreed 💯
I love tbc it’s my favourite back in the day and classic. But shit if you want fresh just go play private server there as been shit tone of them. Or do you just want to cry fresh server till someone does it for you lol
@@justinsimpson2146true, but having characters on the official game just feels better at least for me
@@Thorskywalker420 thats fair. im just saying there is servers out there not as good as if blizz did it. i dont think they will open a tbc server anytime.
@@justinsimpson2146private servers are corrupt as hell. They sell your data, invade your PC, sell gold, etc etc. nothing is free
I paused at 0:01 to say the answer.
Play whichever one you enjoy.
Carry on.
I tried HC once. Got to level 34, suffered a DC and died. The general mentality among players there is: 'That sucks. But we've all been there. Roll again and try to do better.'
I didn't try again.
Can we have TBC server please?
This what I want as well😄
Even more dead servers?
@@AkiRa22084There wouldnt be any dead servers if they just had 2-3 servers.
@AkiRa22084 what world are you living in. Classic did not die at all. Keep dreaming
Thank you for this, I’m coming back after last playing in 2011!
What will happen to the SOD characters afterwards?
Arent those all dlc’s on top of the original? Or are they complete standalone games?
If you're not certain at all that you want to play the game at all, They have it set up free to play to level 20 and then you make your choice. It's the basic game and start and where you go is up to you.
Just answering to the first second of the video without hearing the rest
You have Vanilla, Cata and Retail
Within Vanilla you got Vanilla, Hardcore and Season of Discovery.
Within Cata it's just Cata
Within Retail you have Retail and Pandaria Remix
Also retail would technically allow you to play majority of old content (previous expansions). I mean more for the campaign aspect of it.
But all of these have their own advantages.
I want to start playing but dont know where to start, never played before
Back then started WoW with WOTLK and played it until the end of MOP.
The same journey for me again started with Wrath classic and will end with MOP classic.
it's true about retail, i tried to come back a few years ago, AND had no idea where to go what portal to take etc.. very very overwhelming.
How do you get overwhelmed when there's so much handholding?
@@AkiRa22084 Retail is not a new player-friendly game. Even for people that have taken a couple years off.
I stopped playing Classic SOD because I can’t get dungeons, of which you need for some of the runes (mara).
hey can someone tell me for the MoP transmogs how long would it take to get juat a mount or 2 or do i even have time to try n get anything? if so ill get on right now pre order and get some xmogs n some mounts hmu if u can tell me
I’m done with retail honestly, it was hard enough coming back from lynch king and figuring out how to even play and I’m still literally confused about everything.
Have you tried Turtle WoW or WoW Ascension? It's great fun if SoD was your jam and you wanna mix classes ect.
Hardcore was the most fun I had recently except for it being hardcore 😅
If there was a rogue-lite version I'd maybe come back to the game
Pro tip: start working out, dating and quit videogames for a while.
Is it too much to ask to get blizz to run a server that cycles endlessly through vanilla tbc wrath, then wipes, perhaps a year each or something.
What they should do is to have every single expansion available and let the people choose what they want to play.
I want to play this never played it. Any suggestions where to start?
Wanna take it chill (give small amount of time) = Classic
Wanna tryhard (wanna give a lot of time) = Retail
@@chekitis9293 thanks i joined retail on server doomhammer. Dont have much time tho readed this too late 😅.
Wich one i haveto start if am new at the game
I’m coming back from last playing in shadowlands, and I chose to do season of discovery… man I am so glad I did. It’s so much more chiller compared to whenever I was playing in shadowlands. Don’t get me wrong I kinda like that stuff, but right now I’m just trying to lay back and kill some mobs.
I’m just afraid playing SOD that when all is said and done our characters will stay on dead sod realms. You think we will just lose gear/runes and go to classic era?
Who cares what happens to them, it will be classic+ time
What should I play as someone who is new but also can't be sweaty?
I’m enjoying all versions of WoW👍🏼👍🏼😎💯 Awesome video!! Woohoo!!👏👏💥💥✨✨💫💫
Beard is looking good Willie
It does indeed
Genuinely haven’t ever played WOW ever, have absolutely no idea what I’m doing so I’m guessing classic would be the way to go?
i wish they would do something like TurtleWoW.
all i need is vanilla with more content.
I cant lie. I went back to WoW just the other day. I had a rogue who was in BFA content and i felt so lost. I know it was weird to go play pandaria remix but i wont lie if i said wasnt enjoying it. Its interesting and fun imo
Your beard is fantastic
Classic fresh, Classic BC
We’ve already have those.
@@brandonkruse6412yeah, we still want them.
You've already eaten ice cream! Why would you want it again?!?
@@bobbymatousek Who is we? I genuinely haven’t seen anyone saying that want TBC Fresh lol. You know it would be DOA
@@brandonkruse6412 me and everyone on deviate delight?
Meh, sounds like a shit feast to speed run through
I want to try Cata but seems overwhelming to me since I skipped Wrath.
Sod is shit. Come to cata it’s far better
i'll play cata and mists classic, fights are challenging and the classes have clear identities
So if you log out of hardcore then you lose your characters?
i have a BIG big itch to play, especially Classic where people 'enforced' some rules on an existing server for people to make new characters from scratch, and stuff. But i love football too much and want to watch all EURO 2024 games. Oh well. Maybe after the cup.
Cata - finished everything, burnt out
Retail - meh
Remix - meh
Sod - giving it a second chance, just sad to see the aus servers are like ghost towns
It makes me very sad that SoD servers are ghost towns right now. I cant blame players when they put those exp bonus buffs in and then added incursions, it caused everyone to level cap in an afternoon. They really fumbled the ball with the exp buff and incursions. Just let players level normally.
Cata feels flat to me. ill check out SoD p4. im just lvling ever couple days to burn the 2x exp bar.
Its not bad. I started a week late and have been slowly leveling at my own pace and exploring. Im playing a dk for the first time. Kinda cool to go back and solo old raids for xmog. I might raid or I might not. Kinda just waiting for phase 4 of SoD
I found an old af unused WOW sub card with in my old wow boxes. Had burning Crusade art on it.
Haven't played in years, excited tho.
So Lich king isn’t playable anymore??
I'm a Classic Andy, I enjoy Era and Hardcore. It's fine there are choices, but I still enjoy leveling in old Azeroth more than anything else.
You're a what?
Mop remix mounts and transmog are god teir for new player and way better introduction to gameplay
I'm loving SoD! SoD and Hardcore have been the best gaming experiences in years!
Thank you for covering Classic Era.
Bring back Hardcore. Not the weird gettin carried /boosted version. The real OF on your own Hardcore.. 😊
If you want to play era without the GDKP and the broken economy, just roll on the PVE cluster instead of the PVP cluser. No GDKP here whatsoever.
ty for heads up :)
Whats GDKP?
cataclysm was crazy as haste warlock
man, I regret not copying my toons to Era :(
So ... If you did say something about which version to buy I did not catch it. I played wow maybbe 15-20 years ago.
I’m playing W.o.W Classic and Having an absolute blast 🎉
I have been watching a few videos lately trying to decide whether and how to come, so this is very well timed for me!
I was literally debating this question today! PERFECT TIMING! 🎉
