USING DEBATES IN THE ENGLISH CLASSROOM

Debates are fantastic activities to use in English classes, allowing students to develop and refine their speaking and listening while also learning new skills that can be most useful for their future. Many teachers have found debates to be among the most involving activities used in the classroom, but others worry about how to organize and prepare students for debates. This session will cover the basic requirements for conducting an engaging and interesting debate. It will go over basic vocabulary, along with different structures or formats which can be used in the classroom. There will also be suggestions for topics to debate as well as supplementary material. All the session’s slides will be compiled in a detailed handout including links, which will be sent to all participants.
