NICE!!. Thats what i was looking for. I wanted to not use the million dollar grease but didnt know how to thoroughly get grease down, in there. Didn't think about tossing a zerk fitting in there. Stihl Head is Metric, 10x1.5 pitch threads.
We failed to grease our stihl weedeater years ago and ruined the bearings. A small engine mechanic told us he had never seen a weed eater with greased bearings go bad.
Awesome idea! But after researching, it takes a M11x10 fitting that no one makes. Did you screw an M10 in there? They are easy to find, but it would leak…🧐
M11 x 10 is the size of the grease plug. There appears to be no M11 grease fittings. An M10 is the closest available. Is it worth the risk of damaging the threads using an M10 to save a few pennies?
I’ve been to 3 hardware stores and 2 automotive stores and no one has the zerk fitting that fits. Anyone know where I can find one? I believe it’s a M11x10.
There is no need to remove the old grease. Unless you have your heart Absolutely SET on removing it. But I'm willing to bet you will get Damn Sick of that task Fast. I Recommend leaving the grease there. It will only add extra lubrication
I have a stihl 56rc trimmer. there is no fill hole on the head. can it be drilled n tapped for a grease fitting? or should u just run it till it quits anf replace the head with a grease able head?
Drill & Tap is the way to fix that problem, Your Absolutely Correct . I'm gona be doing the same exact thing on the same exact machine as soon as this Reply is Applied. Happy drilling
Take the head off and put the grease in the square hole. That the drive line fits in, you can fill your head. Here easily, how are you gonna get the shavings out of the bearings and the grease in the head that'd be hard
I hate to call anyone a lier, but they gave you incorrect information. I don't know if there Is Such a thing as "too much" grease on the head of a weedeater. But Even If You DID put too much grease in there - it would operate cooler due to the extra grease, not hotter
Actually while I'm not sure about getting hot, the fact is if you over pressurize the head with grease, it will blow out the bearing seals and ultimately cause it to be worse in short order than it would have been if you didn't do anything.

Thanks for another clever, money-saving suggestion!
Excellent advice Lester
Didn't know they sell those grease fittings. Thanks for the pro tip!
Thank you!! That really helped.

Out of curiosity, What size grease fitting fit your trimmer? Great video.
Just curious, why not just leave the grease fitting in the gear head? I did with all of mine over 6 years ago and they're doing fine.
your the greatest mr. Lester

I have a Stihl FS111, the grease plug is 11mm x 1.50 pitch, I would guess most Stihls will be the same
Why wouldn't you just leave the grease fitting in?
I guess you could. Stihls actually used to come with them already installed.
Yup, exactly...same thing I was gunna suggest
Leave the grease fitting in There - You will be doing Yourself a favor. I Promise.
Can’t I keep the zerk fitting in the trimmer?
That's a great idea!
I use a Macnaught grease needle in the end of my grease gun.
Is this generally just a Stihl thing or basically any trimmer?

Ok but aren't you supposed to remove the old grease in there? Is there a proper way to do that?

I read some where that if you put too much grease in it will run hot ,don't know ?
Won't happen.

wondering what grease to use
What ever grease you can buy, borrow, make or steal. Spit in it if you have to - it HAS to be lubed
@@timgthatsit6756 Thank you for that, Fortunately and enormous appreciation a viewer has told me what grease stihl uses so I can buy it in bulk
Stihl and Echo quit providing a port hole in which to grease the 10K rpm gear head. @#$!
