    Wait! This isn't how you lube the gear head and bearing of a string trimmer. You were supposed to lube the gear box instead. Just above the flange is a bolt. Grease goes in the bolt hole. In fact, the grease you see that's sitting on the bearing and flange is grease that has oozed out of the gearbox and past the bearing seal(that's normal). When you flooded the bearing seal with brake cleaner the solvent was seeping past the seal and into the bearings and gear box. You can see in the video where the excess solvent is making its way past the seal. Also, the solvent is breaking down the grease causing the lube to no longer be able to lubricate the gears and bearings(displacement). The best fix from here is to completely disassemble the head unit, clean the gears and housing and replace the bearing. The easier thing to do is to try and get as much gear grease into the gear housing and hope for the best. Don't over pressurize the gear box with a grease gun or you'll completely blow the bearing seal."Slight" pressure is all you need. If you see grease oozing past the seal while your lubing, you've gone past the point of no return or the brake cleaner has damaged the seal. You'll then need to replace the bearing. The bearing seal keeps the gear lube from coming out of the gearbox when it gets warm from use. The gear lube also keeps the bearing lubed. It's a "scratch each other's back" kinda thing. It's normal to see a little seepage and buildup past the bearing seal over a season of use.(the bearings used on these units are not meant to be 100% sealed) When you removed the trimmer head the grease buildup looked normal and not excessive, but that's also a sign that the gearbox was ready for fresh lube. Sorry for the long wind. You're an absolute champ if you made it to the end!.....Cheers!

      Thanks for reaching out and I really appreciate the energy! I'm with you and would have greased the gear box on this Stihl FS70RC. However, I don't recall this particular model having a 'bolt hole'??? I think this particular model was sealed??? I no longer have the trimmer anymore or I'd go and double check. I upgraded to a new ECHO (which I know 100% has a bolt hole for greasing.
      I recall ago taking the trimmer head off years ago and I'm confident I would have applied grease. I can't say certain if it was my grease or the grease out of the gearbox that you can see in the video??? I think I bought the trimmer approximately 12 years ago???
      Do you have a Stihl FS70RC that you can refence to see if there is in fact a way to grease the gear box? Now I'm just curious.
      Appreciate it!

      All stihl trimmers have a bolt on the trimmer head. If not you should take the head off the shaft and put grease on the inside.
      Also don't forget a little white lithium down the main shaft. You'll thank me later!

      Thanks Pointbreak 82. Really appreciate your support! I'm with you. Same here! Well, just one exception. I stopped using AMSOIL Synthetic Water Resistant Grease on foam dirt bike air filters. It's always a great idea to use a good water resistant grease to make a nice water/air tight seal. However, when it's time to to wash it. I can't get the AMSOIL grease to come off. Great problem!

    I noticed in the video that you sprayed the brake cleaner on a sealed bearing, if there were any openings in the seal the brake cleaner will get in the bearing and break down the lubricant in the bearing.

    Only thing about tacky greases is that when you're spending that at high RPM it slings to the outer wall and doesn't keep the gear lubricated. The Husqvarna multi-purpose grease I use is pretty oily once it gets hot it breaks down and becomes thin kind of like motor oil

    • @officeroil-amsoil3463
      @officeroil-amsoil3463  4 месяца назад

      I agree, certain greases are designed for specific applications. Some greases you want to hold in place and others not so much. AMSOIL's Synthetic Polymeric Truck, Chassis and Equipment Grease (GPTR), www.amsoil.com/c/bearing-chassis-grease/28/?pageVisible=grid_view/?zo=1649274 is so tacky that you can whack a glob of it with a hammer and it won't splatter. It also does such a good job of holding on that it's not recommend for many of the automatic or centralized greasing systems. Then you'll find low quality greases with low "dropping points" that can't handle the heat and will turn into liquid. So much of it depends on the quality, they type of grease, and the application.

    Hey, do you have a recommendation as to what I can use to lubricate my cars blow off valve…it’s a brass piston moving up and down inside a anodized aluminum sleeve with a Ertalyte (some type of thermoplastic) ring at the top…I’ll probably end up asking Amsoil, but figured I’d ask you…maybe you have an idea?

    • @officeroil-amsoil3463
      @officeroil-amsoil3463  7 месяцев назад +1

      Great question. You could possibly apply a dry lubricant like AMSOIL Silicone Spray (ALSSP), www.amsoil.com/p/amsoil-silicone-spray-alss/?zo=1649274.
      Or, lightly apply AMSOIL MP Metal Protector (AMP), www.amsoil.com/p/amsoil-mp-metal-protector-amp/?zo=1649274 to a rag and apply.
      I would consider checking with the manufacturer to see what they recommend???

    • @Cat-cp1jo

      @@officeroil-amsoil3463 the manufacturer recommends motor oil if I’m not mistaken, they say the blow off usually has enough oil in the vapor or something like that, to lubricate it, but that’s not what I was seeing so I wanted to lubricate it. I’ll look into the silicone spray some more, I was even thinking GL-4 gear oil since that oil is safe on brass and aluminum transmission cases, not sure how it’ll do with the plastic ring, but I’m guessing maybe not too different than motor oil. Silicone spray my stick better than the oils too…I’ll look into it…thanks
