from what I remember (it was a few years ago when I watched this episode) I think she was singing as veronica in riverdale and not heather mcnamara in their highschool musical and I think it was daddy issues or something and not being in control of her life (thus, the minor lyric change). My biggest problem with the way this show does musicals, other than the excessive autotune and doing musicals in the first place when the majority of your actors can't sing, is how they took the songs out of context. For example, at the start of the episode they had the characters introduce what character in the musical they would be playing. Veronica and JD are the main leads in the musical, yet the characters playing them aren't given the time leads would be given and most of their songs are sung by other characters. Literally Veronica Sawyer sings 90% of the songs in the musical, "Dead Girl Walking" is probably her most iconic song, yet it's sung by someone else; "Seventeen" is their duet, it's heartbreaking in the context of the musical, and again here it's sung by other characters Then going off that it feels like the writers assigned song lyrics to certain characters at random, or because they thought it would make the most sense to have that character sing it. For example, the Heathers don't sing their own introduction, that's sung by the rest of the students because the Heathers are worshiped at Westerburg. And again the Heathers also don't sing "this could be beautiful, mascara, maybe some lip gloss... let's make her beautiful" to each other, they sing it to Veronica right before they heatherfy her. It doesn't make any sense why the pretty, popular girls would sing that phrase to one another, when they are already pretty and perfect. "Candy Store" isn't meant to be a face-off, it's supposed to be Heather Chandler trying to put Veronica in her place. If they want to start doing musical episodes they have to pay more attention to things like this.
