Tchaikovsky: So I’m writing music for a scene where two cats dance Someone: Oh that’s nice. How’s it gonna sound? Nice and happy? Tchaikovsky: extremely fuckin’ haunted.
All I can think about while watching this is Aurora being led to the spinning wheel in the Disney movie..... I never thought about this song being played as two cats dance thanks a lot Disney for making this song scary
I can't believe that the music that used to terrify me (and still does) from the disney film was Tchaikovsky all along and from a cat dance! Well i feel silly for being so scared by it now!
Having been a Disney fan for most of my life, I cannot describe how surprised I was when I first saw the ballet. The meow sounds, taken out of their original context, are transformed into something terrifying in the Disney cartoon.
The pas de chats jumps are amazing!! They are so light on their feet ( I feel like a sac of potatoes when I attempt them lol). Love this so much and I am so glad I don't remember this music from the Disney film lol!
Act III of "Sleeping Beauty" is a series of divertissements (diversions), which are individual dances that have nothing to do with advancing the plot; they're purely for entertainment. If you know what divertissements are, you'll understand "Cats" a lot better.
@@OofusTwillip The same should be said for "The Nutcracker Suite", since after the defeat of the Mouse King and the now-restored Nutcracker Prince brings Clara to his kingdom, what follows after is a series of dances until the finale.
I remember being a child and being behind the scenes watching how one of the eldest dancers danced this pas de deux with her partner and I was completely blown away by the beauty
I read with great interest how many people were scared by this music, thanks to Disney, as so was I! It was for me too, a great surprise to find many years later that this was a dance if cats!!!
seriously though that white cat costume is pretty cute, it has that aesthetic about it as though it could be in a game like bioshock infinite where it later turns into a ferocious beast, i think its the mask
The White Cat's costume doesn't seem quite right to me. I think it's because the tail should be under the tutu skirt, instead of over it. Cats' tails are at the base of the spine, not at the waist.
Absolutely wonderful. The choreography is light, graceful, evocative and funny. The dancers, esp. the White Cat are great. Her movements are perfection!
You poor simple fools. Thinking you could defeat me, ME?! The Mistress of all evil!? Well HERE is your precious princess! Ahahahahaha 🔥 AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!😈
I have a hypothesis on why people find it boring; ballet can't be done properly without making it look easy and to make it look easy is to make it look unimpressive and unimpressive things are boring to watch. So it doesn't work unless the emotions that are being conveyed can be picked up by the onlooker, and most people can't pick up on them or pick up on the story.
OH MY GOD THE MUSIC IS MEOWING. Its cliche but listening to this is just familiar enough to make me feel stupid but still feel like I'm listening to something entirely new
Oh my that was SO good...she's a-mazing :) Also the orchestra, sublime. I can't bear other companies interpretations of the scores..esp when it's Tchaikovsky. A good illustration of why I think The Royal are still the best!
That’s the genius of Walt Disney. He was able to take a music piece that was written to be such a cute and comedic sequence and then torture it and turn it around into something that could be quite terrifying.
It is so amazing how the team that worked on the animated Sleeping Beauty adapted this song into one of the most crucial moments in the movie. How they thought of adapting this and use it in a very eerie and dark way, I love it. And you gotta admit, even with the dancing cats, the music itself is definitely eerie, no wonder they used it in the spindle scene.
It's in a minor key, and the use of the discordant jumps is frequently used to signal at least something that should be startling, or at least ominous. I think the bigger takeaway from this is that maybe Tchaikovsky wasn't really that great of a storyteller as much as he was a composer of really good music -- if someone else wrote the story to fit the music he made.
I haven't seen the Disney movie in forever, but all these comments about it have got me imagining Malleus Draconia with cat ears... which is.... a very good thing... (and Leona with horns, then?) I just... really want to see that. Some spell goes wrong and makes them switch. And Vil would make Malleus dance this with Lilia...
So, the scariest and most eerie soundtrack of all the classic animated Disney movies Sleeping Beauty… is originally from a ballet? And a Puss in Boots ballet? Not to mention the performance looks so sweet and innocent next to an eerie soundtrack!
Growing up with this scary piece from the Disney movie. I am now trying to see if I can switch to joy and fun with the dance, but nope. My imagination still says two scary monsters were dancing and something bad would happen. Good job Disney.
Honestly, it's kind of a good thing Disney associated this song with Maleficent, because the song just sounds too evil to accompany 2 cats goofing around.

Yes, it was Walter Disney idea to made this meow song for Maleficent theme transforming into a dark theme
The best costume design EVER!

Tchaikovsky: Minor key, building tension. Got it.
lololol
This wasn’t a pas de deux! It was a pas de chat! 😂😂
I see what you did there. :)
Hehehe
Hahhahahha nice joke right there😂💕

Not quite - it was a pas de deux chats! ::LOL::

I think that Disney made a master usage of this piece turning upside-down the sensation and emotion that it gives

I didn't know that The White Cat and Puss-in-Boots were in the Sleeping Beauty ballet. Those are two classic French fairy tales.
