      I know next to nothing about ballet. I am a orchestra musician so I’m usually in the pit. Having said that, the ability of ballerinas to dance on pointe shoes fascinates me. Ms. Osipiva’s shoes look different to me, almost like they are collapsing while she is dancing. Does anyone see the same?

    • @zeynepkymet4673
      @zeynepkymet4673 4 года назад +51

      Thecatspajamas891 You’re right! Osipova almost always wears beaten up shoes. In ballet people place an unreasonable emphasis on arched metatarsals, which Osipova doesn’t naturally have, so my guess is that she prefers softer shoes because it’s much easier to point your feet in them.

    • @erickatullis255
      @erickatullis255 3 года назад +95

      I'm not saying that you're incorrect or that you're being rude to those of us who aren't trained the Russian way. . . but there are so many different styles of ballet that it's impossible to compare, and the way that people are trained determines a lot about how they dance.

    • @annbrixey9651
      @annbrixey9651 3 года назад +33

      The Russian dancers were lovely, but so were some of the others. Not all really did the variation they danced justice. Ballet should be about the artistic interpretation of the particular role.

    • @SlpBeauty333
      @SlpBeauty333 3 года назад +30

      They were all good but I noticed that the Russians seemed to have costumes that were not helping. Ekaterina in La Esmeralda? Her skirt flops up and it's distracting from her performance. Same with Anastasia Stashkevich in Coppelia. Her skirt has the same issue. It's like there's a skirt over her tutu and it's not a flattering line. The color is also not the most flattering color. It's a shame because it's not their fault but it is distracting from their performance. Not all of the Russians had bad costumes but the ones that were bad were really bad.
      For example, Nina's costume in the Golden Age enhances her performance. Her lines look clean and the color fits the more modern set and choreography.

Every move, every head tilt, every facial expression, everything is calculated and plotted out for an effect. To me there’s no intrinsic artistry behind her absolutely perfect technique. She also tAkes her rubato over the limit. A great balance is definitely to be admired. We all know by now that Nela can balance indefinitely - no reason to be indiscriminately proving it.

    So many talented and beautiful dancers- incredible! And each has their own style. I really loved the lightness of Nikisha Fogo - she made each jump look so effortless. At this level, I do think "the best" is very subjective because it does come down to personal preference. And even some choreography is better suited to some styles depending on the character played, so it is hard to compare. Still we like to watch certain dancers more than others, just as certain singers touch our hearts more than others. :) we're very fortunate to have such talent and dedication in such a difficult art like ballet.

Katya is adorable in and brings fresh innocence to nearly all of her roles. Miriam’s bluebird is nice, but Yuhoi Choe will always have my heart in that role. Obratzsova reminds me of Gelsey Kirkland sometimes, in both her dancing and physical appearance. She truly looks like a young Gelsey, and just like Gelsey, Giselle is one of her greatest roles. 'en point' and would spin on one toe, she would release violent farts, even heard over the orchestra. She would be in tears, but the public would be hysterically laughing. So sad and awful for her.

    Nice list, very nice. Especially love seeing my favorites- Krysanova, Genia, Sarah, and Osipova- and some new faces, too! (My heart will always belong to Lopatkina.)
    That's a nice Odette by Nunez, but I almost feel bad for a non-Russian dancer in the role- they just get the arms/shoulders/back like very few others can. Something in the water, lol.
    It makes sense for Zakharova to not be on here, imho, since one of SuperBalletGirl's criterion is being an active dancer (it's also okay for her to simply not be someone's favorite!!!). Sveta's so much more of a guest/touring artist now, not really doing consistent extended runs with her home company. At this point in her career she's more like Diana Vishneva - can pick and choose all around the world.

    Thanks. I really enjoy watching ballerinas, they are just so graceful and talented. There are a couple of teens who are brilliant for their age, too, I've been watching on YT lately. I was a professional dancer and singer and I was very fortunate to be able to dance with, who I think is the "goat", forever and always", Joyce Cuoco!!! And I got free lessons because my teacher thought I was so uncanny. When I see dancers now, I bow my head in shame and apologize to them, because they are just awesome. It's hard to distinguish, many comments have a favorite. If I HAD to chose, Ekaterina, your #9 would probably be my pick. Look how she does those side kicks especially, it is totally amazing and something very unique and uncanny, different than even how Joyce did them.
