Belyakov is now one of my favourite male Bolshoi dancers - along with Lantratov. He has both great jumping and wonderful artistic interpretation. I have watched this version of Bluebird over and over..

I have a feeling she hadn't broken in her pointe shoes (enough), there was some squeaking and you could hear her landings like a clunk, and the choreography wasn't particuarly birdlike. They did however look very graceful
Its not what it used to be. The male variation; assemble entrchat six on both sides and 12 entrchat six at the end before the double tour finish. Music adjusted to this version. Way harder.
This performance looks like it's in slow motion. In fact, IT IS IN SLOW MOTION thanks to this sluggish tempi. I know I complain about this incessantly, but today's ballet dancers need to stop insisting on slowing the music down to such absurd depths. Aside from the coda--which has decent tempo--I recommend you watch everything else at 1.25 speed and you'll see how everything is musically correct and ALIVE.
At. 5.22, ballerina is not completing arm extension and brings it too close to body too soon. I have seen some dancers make that particular move a little more theatrical with more arm positioning. Beautiful, otherwise.
Music tempo is decided by the choreographer and director. The conductor cannot change the tempo of the music if they feel like it, especially because the dancers were rehearsing at a different tempo and would mess up.
I wish the choreography for her had more bird like fluttering and nuances. Cant they add things? It never seemed very bird like, this dance. Shes an amazon! Those legs!
Why did they take this tempo? Makes it so heavy. And blue birds don't call that slowly! I always thought this pas de deus was all about speed and bravura...And the coda is supposed to be gaining speed throughout to build excitement. Take it out and it's not there.
