Let me explain to you, my friend. in the 4th century, a monk named Paul of Pherme who lived in the Egyptian desert, every single day he would say 300 prayers, and to keep in the count of them he used 300 pebbles on his lap and threw them one by one after each prayer, and to modify this Saint Pachomius made a prayer rope so monks wouldn't have to find pebbles and count their prayers, instead, they used the prayer rope. Prayer ropes are usually black and people, of course, wear black for sadness and mourning we use black on the prayer ropes to mourn our sins and repent from them and even the way the prayer rope is tied has a meaning and a lesson for us so this goes back to Saint Anthony the Great a monk in the 4th century of Eygpt he used to tie a knot every time he said Lord have Mercy but the devil would come and untie his rope so Theotokos (Mary) taught Saint Anthony to tie his rope a special way with a series of 7 crosses the devil couldn't untie the rope anymore why? because the devil could not overcome the power of the cross. Give glory and honor to our Father and Thank Him for all our Blessing which He gave us! And Repent in the name of the Lamb! Please Read Scripture! @@tmcge3325 Hello, I saw your message, So let me type out Matthew 6:7, which says " But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking." So in this verse take a look at the part when Jesus Christ said "Use not -->VAIN REPETITIONS" that part "Vain" means having or showing no point on. When someone uses God's name in vain they use it at a moment of no point when you don't need to call the name so now knowing what vain generally means put that with repetitions when you put Vain Repetitions together it means using the repeated sentence or in this case, prayer in vain it means someone is repeating a prayer over and over but they do not think about the prayer the meaning of the prayer the divinity of the prayer they generally repeat their prayers without acknowledging them, thus using the prayer in vain and Jesus also says in this verse that the Heathen's just think that if they keep saying the prayer more and more without even acknowledging it just repeating it over and over that God will hear them and that right there is the repetition of prayer but saying "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God have mercy on me a sinner" is a powerful prayer, and it is powerful when someone says it with their heart acknowledging the words and understanding it. Now the second part of your message, Orthodoxy does give glory and honor to the Father, and thanks to him for all our blessings, we are Christians. And Traditions aren't ignorant to scripture they are just very specific in what they do, many people won't understand that Orthodoxy actually follows the scriptures it is just hard to see for most people now these days because many misunderstand the context of scriptures but in reality, Orthodoxy follows scriptures, Orthodoxy is just misunderstood badly. I hope this gives you understanding and if you read till here, thank you. May God bless you. Here is a video that explains the true meaning of Jesus prayer and prayer ropes and ceasing while praying. ruclips.net/video/37U80DT0Juw/видео.html
@@TsiEt Nope, I still have zero understanding! Tell me, are you praying the same prayer over and over? Yes or No. Second, why do you require this rope thing to pray? Is that walking in his ways? Did you read in scripture our Messiah praying with a rope anthem? Where in scripture do I see Yeshua, any of his Apostles praying with a rope? Lastly, two points....King Hezekiah destroyed Moses brasen serpent in 2 Kings Cht 18....why? Better read. Next, messiah preached against traditions NOT in scripture, you point out this rope thing in scripture and I will go out and purchase one and one for myself....until then, it is what it is, vain tradition!
@@TsiEt you might want to look up pagan prayer beads....also, I do not believe in the trinity. It is not in scripture.....Messiah was sent by our Father and he was made by our Father Hebrews 2:7 kjv and Isaiah 43:15. Messiah died as a Lamb for the new covenant, our Father raised the very dead Messiah from the tomb. God can not died, he is the beginnjng and the end. Satan tempted Messiah 3 times...Satan can not ever tempt our Father.
I have such mixed emotions. At once there is a beauty in the simplicity and short repetitious form. On the other, I also feel that it is missing something. It feels for a lack of better words secular - and that’s an inadequate word. But I can’t find a better one. There is this sense that God is but one of the prayers. The focus doesn’t seem to be worship and communion with Jesus in his personhood. The prayer rope is affirmed more than the name of Jesus is spoken. The power of the prayer is spoken more than the power of Jesus. Even the prayer to Jesus only asks for mercy - something asked of a distant judge presiding, while the only prayer for salvation isn’t made to Jesus, but to Mary. This lack of focus on God himself, and on actual communion with him in and through prayer rather than praying for prayer sakes seems to be missing something. These are just my observations and the things that I feel as I listen. No offense intended to those who love this.
"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner" is called the Jesus Prayer. It's the shortest prayer in Orthodox Christianity (Anglicans and Roman Catholic monks use it as well), it's a very important prayer and you'll find believers pray it often.
Hey brother, I am an Orthodox Catechumen from Protestantism, and struggled with some of those things... So I can attempt to shed some light on those concerns. There is a time for every purpose under the sun (Ecclesiastes). Eating is necessary for the survival of the body. But if only ate all day, you would surely die. You also need to drink, and to breathe, and exercise, and cultivate relationships, etc. Similarly, in our Christian lives, the most essential part is in fact relationship and communion in God (in Orhodoxy, that culminates in the concept of thesis, or union with God). But there is many forms in which that takes place. The purpose of the prayer rope is to practice what St. Paul teaches us: pray without ceasing. That is why it is composed of many repeated prayers. It is a fantastic tool. Sometimes we don't even know what to pray for in times of despair, and repeating the Jesus Prayer, we help set our heart in peace and worship of our Saviour, and that even helps us kickstart our own personal prayer. It reminds us what to pray for. The prayer rope is by no means at all supposed to replace deep intuitive prayer, though. They go together like drinking and eating. As St Paul said, what is it worth that I do all these ritual things if I don't have Love? About the Saints, and particularly the Theotokos, it's useful to think of them as branches stemming from the same vine. The vine itself is the Eternal God, and the branches are the Saints and the church. By admiring the branches, do I remove honour from the vine? The branches themselves have no virtue and no life but the one they inherit from the vine. Similarly, the Saints are venerated (not worshipped) as members of the body of Christ, and what is being venerated and honoured is not their own virtue, but how much they point to Christ. We venerate not their own identity, but how Christ manifests in them. The word "mercy" used in the Jesus prayer is a translation from the Greek "Eleison", used as a word for healing. We ask God to heal us, for only through Jesus incarnate can we find healing. And we ask the Theotokos to save us even though she is far from being equal to our Saviour, because it is through her that Christ took on our flesh. She is seen interceding for miracles in the Bible itself. If Jesus Christ is the doctor, the Saints are all the teams of nurses and hospital staff participating in his work. In the end, they all played a part in healing you. Does Jesus need the Saints to heal us? No. Not really. But in fact, He never needed to create any of us in the first place. It is not by need, but for love, that He shares with us in His power. God is seen even in the book of Job sharing in His power with the Heavenly Host. This is simply the way God acts, through a multitude of angels, archangels, principalities and Saints. Even the Godhead is in Himself three in one. Sharing one unknowable and indefinable and infinitely holy and glorious essence. That being said, I am not yet fully orthodox and this is just my understanding. God bless you!
When we say this, we are asking for intercession. The word save (in the bible Sozo) means rescue. In the original bible before translations, save was used any time God OR some person helped another. If you fell off a boat and someone threw a life ring out and pulled you in, they saved you. That's not sin. Its translation issues, these folk songs are in languages that do not have English exact translations. I hope this may clear it up.

I am a Roman Catholic, and I pray both the Jesus Prayer and the Rosary, they are very healthy for the soul. 😊
Hey brother,
I am an Orthodox Catechumen from Protestantism, and struggled with some of those things...
@@joaol.galdino8738 well said Joao.
The first prayer asking for salvation is to the Trinity,?
Unbiblical word - forth to thee saint john i pray , to wash all my sins away . John has no authority that he wash our sin
