What makes Chris great is that he's willing to take anything and learn from it, it's a mindset of willingness to explore and learn from unconventional means. This is why Chris is the GOAT.
Thank you for this. Since my voice has been transitioning with me, I've had to do a whole bunch of internal Olympics to reintroduce my upper range. I'm gonna have to try this yipping!🤘😎
I think that "yip" is more like how tenors feel more natural to sing high, and that "cat" sound the more back, nasal one are more natural to baritones. I have strugle wtih thid forward "yip" more like tenor high sound, especially qietly, but I'm getting better at it, it's more OPEN Throat and forward, it's hard, but I'm getting better to feel it.
Hey Chris! Great lesson man! I think that's the kind of thing that's going to help me sing some Richie Kotzen stuff. He sings so high and I'm really struggling to get to those high notes out of nowhere. Can't wait to start practicing that! Have a great one! Cheers from Brazil!
Finally, after searching for months, an exercise that can consistently show me how to access a lighter engagement. Very grateful for all your videos, Chris!
You blow me away each time I listen to your vids... You can make goffers shitting in the woods a course that teaches us something about our voices. Good stuff. Everything is a win. Wes Williams below me here "nailed it" GOAT
So cool. “That we could fly” (Never tear us apart/Inxs), the “we” is right on a break point, but the yipping, I can make that work now. 2 lines after that will need more practice!! 😂
I love your videos Chris, you're by far the most effective vocal coach on RUclips. The kookiest noises but they really do work. If you don't sound silly practising exercises you're not doing it right and your voice won't have that muscle memory of achieving the notes you want.
Throw that boy a bone already! Ah, to the rescue, mans best friend. AS always, Chris, another superb expose'. Super useful! Thank you thank you thank you!
Yep, there are vocal efficiencies to be learned directly from the source, millions of years of evolution and training~ Another video from a few years ago said that "oooOOOwww" helps with high notes. There are lots of supportive sounds that park the voice in a higher position that let you stay there~
I needed to hear this... I used to record my voice track... then up 2 steps in the software.. and show a smile too in uncomfortably high note in the video.. shame...
David Byrne of Talking Heads and Kevin Rowland of Dexy's Midnight Runners sing in almost pure dog yelp mode although a bit more towards 'uh' than the 'ih' vowel. They don't modify it towards the scream thing you are doing here on the Alanis cover, so while quirky, it can be used as is.
That's so helpful! damn I can't figure out one thing. When I sing high notes of some rock songs, for example I can't hit them notes in Foo Fighters songs, for example the chorus of "This is a Call", even when I try to hit something, my voice sounds too thin whereas Dave sounds like he is in his regular chest deep voice. I always wondered is there a way to enlarge formants without sounding too thin in the high register, cus sometimes it feels like it's a natural born thing and u gotta accept it.
Holy shit bro I just want ya to send me that Alanis song with you singing that was awesome and thank you your videos inspire me makes me get my ass in gear and go sing :-)
This is incredibly similar to the "Goofy" sound you talk about in your mixed voice course, just with a more neutral larynx position. Great stuff. I'll definitely be trying this, with this exact song most likely.
hey Chris ! i am absolutely obsessed with your lessons ! thank you for making this channel and for sharing so much knowledge with all of us FOR FREE ! i was wondering if you could make a reaction/vocal breakdown video of Miley’s performance of The Guess Who’s “American Woman”. wish you the best !
awesome, awesome, awesome... I still have 1 doubt: how about songs that keep a lot of the chorus on higher notes with power vocal? Like living on a prayer from Bon Jovi.
I think thats the type of mixed voice guys like Rob Halford uses, went and listened to Painkiller from Judas Priest and it sounds very much alike what youre doing with that yep high mix like its coming from the area above your nose, it really sounds like those old rocker guys from the 80s, i think its also easier to add distortion too because of the more forward nature of the sound
Hey Chris, I was wondering if you could do a video on Ville Vallo of HIM? Specifically his very unique style of singing and how he goes from these really low pitches back to high like it was nothing. He has such an incredible vocal range and I'd love to see your input on it
Would really love that myself! Although, if it helps in the meantime- Ville tends to wittingly use head-voice to primarily nail his highs. In more extreme cases (the bridge and final chorus of Disarm Me, Bleed Well. etc.) he tends to do a mixed-voice scream. You'll notice he is really selective on where he places everything lyrically (similar to Jonny Craig's approach on belting) :D
Chris a bit of a request but can you do a vocal analysis of shiloh dynasty, id be very interested in seeing you break down their techniques and how they achieve such a gentle but loud vocal at the same time thank u
I try this technique and it feels great until i try to sing at the low end of my head register, close to my break... Then my voice gets very gravelly, even if im hitting the note well. Whereas your voice sounds like it travels quite smoothly and seemlessly across the chest break? What is the deal with this?.
Slightly outta reach? I have some songs I'd likt to perform where some tones not are just *slightly* outta reach... talking about 2 half tones. Is this also possible?
I can sing any paul McCartney sing now but the song "Rough Ride" introduces a note that still eludes me I refuse to accept that I can't reach it you make anything possible vocally.
I know you can unpack a ton out of this slice of show: ruclips.net/video/RNM_57PMMi4/видео.html Check from 6:20 to 9:10 for the vocal fun. I hope this to be helpfull, cheers!
"here's an exercise that I picked up from listening to my dog" LMAO
chris youre the goat
Yeah, you can just imagine his dog in front of a mic trying to hit those high notes.
@@Mark95876 the goat? no the dog haven’t u paid attention (i’m kidding btw have a great day:))
What makes Chris great is that he's willing to take anything and learn from it, it's a mindset of willingness to explore and learn from unconventional means. This is why Chris is the GOAT.
Thank you!
Thanks, Chris. D#6 reached today (as a baritone) because of you! You're always so helpful! Much love, man. 💖
As someone who sings bass and tenor but would love to sing higher songs, I appreciate any videos of this type
Chickens, cats and dogs. These 3 animals hold the key to hitting high notes..
Love it!
Thank you for this. Since my voice has been transitioning with me, I've had to do a whole bunch of internal Olympics to reintroduce my upper range. I'm gonna have to try this yipping!🤘😎
I like the original but I was not expecting you to take the song and make it your own.🤯Mind blown.Cool!
This guy's voice is incredible!
I think that "yip" is more like how tenors feel more natural to sing high, and that "cat" sound the more back, nasal one are more natural to baritones. Richie is great
Dang. We haven’t VERY different vocal styles but you sound incredible!
Love this guy, unashamedly in it to improve & enjoy, no matter what the noise coming out. Takes balls that. 👌
Man your neighbours must have thought you were nuts when you were first discovering this stuff. Cant wait to try it BTW
I love that you used this song for todays example. Have you done a full cover? Thanks Chris.
Not yet!
Great technique! It is amazing what you can discover with your voice. This is the best channel for vocal training and courses.
indeed - even if one of Chris's vids don't work perfectly for you.. try the next one. lol, it'll likely change your (vocal) life
Finally, after searching for months, an exercise that can consistently show me how to access a lighter engagement. Very grateful for all your videos, Chris!
You sing so good. Please consider making the full version of the song.
Dude I have been loosely watching your videos but practicing when I can and I am hitting songs I never thought I could. Thank you!
what a great teacher you are.
Thank you!
Nice! Been working on vocals for the album. Will have to catch up! Happy Birthday Brother! 🥳
Never clicked on a video faster. My band is playing Lay it on the Line by Triumph and I'm doing the high F at the end of the chorus...

6:16 "Yup taaa". Sounds like russian bad word "Ёпта". Sorry for this :D
Just wanted to comment this! Will be harder for Russians (which I am) to do this exercise 😅
So cool. “That we could fly” (Never tear us apart/Inxs), the “we” is right on a break point, but the yipping, I can make that work now. 2 lines after that will need more practice!! 😂
Im 1 minute in and you got a voice, good lord 🔥
Please make a full cover of that song in the beginning. It sounds amazing
Thanks Chris
Fantastic. Really helps adding grit too.
Woo, ıts very helpfull for those notes I cant Hit, thank you, I added inventory🙏🙏
Great exercise here. I need to do this regularly. Thanks Chris!
I frequently listen to Chris Leipe videos while taking a shower. My wife frequently checks to see if I’m okay.
Thanks for the video, I feel I went up one note immediately in my high end comfort range!
That’s awesome!
Who bloody thinks of this stuff haha. Great video mate
Absolutely loved this, it instantly helped me unlock some range with so much less effort
Thanks so much for this!
Excellent lesson
All of your videos are right on time, you know your audience 😉 Thank you very much. Next video: Isolated Vocal Analysis of Alanis Morissette 😁
Great stuff as always, Chris! Would love to hear your analysis on a Peter Cetara, or any other singer of the like. Thanks for everything!
Man, you are such an inspiration.
Watching your videos always make me want to improve myself.

This sounds useful for personal defense when walking home late. Yip Yip Yip!
This is amazing! ❤
I love singing with dogs, they are so free with their voices
OMG you're so good dude!

Good Job Brother

I noticed I do the same thing when I stretch and yawn. It allows me to hit higher notes with less struggle than usual.

I think Adam Lambert sounds like he does this some sort of technique where he joins notes to connect the break
Killer intro!!!
The clean lines in that song in the beginning sounded like Myles Kennedy. Kinda his vibes i'd say.
hi dude could you do a video on the singing style of spencer sotelo from ice nine kills pls :)
Hey Chris you should do a tutorial on YungBlud
My wife walks in:
"What the hell are you watching?"
Lol
Thanks for sharing this... It's a sort of blending?

12 minutes of Chris being attacked by the Sesame Street Martians
Ahhaaahaaa I’m a dog trainer….who would of thought, this is soooo good!
This whole time I thought I was just making fun of my dog; instead, I’ve been practicing my range. Lol
What about screeching osprey?
Any tips to sing with less volume but stay in a heavy sounding tone?
be a bass lmao
Learn to use compression! Done lots of videos on that technique. Check em out :)
@@chrisliepe sure man 👨!!!! Love you
I exclusively hear my dog for financial advice.
Interesting. I can see how this could be applied. Any hints on how to avoid the ticklish urge to cough when extending to one's highest notes?
Do you know the band Thrice?? Dustin Kensrue would be so perfect to cover in a video. Something the the song Beggars would be incredible.
Chris you have to do a video of how to sing like Vince neil( the young vince neil, not the tubabee vince neil) that would be great :D
I've not watched the video yet but I'm really hoping it's dancing on the passagio and not just the high mix :)
Hands down the best Yip Yip Martian tutorial!
I gotta ask: do you have s beagle??😁😁
Samoyed :)
@@chrisliepe oh yeah, those are singers, too!😊😊😊
THANK YOUU

Hello chris, isn't that sound flageolet? How can I apply it to singing in mixed voice?
Or how can i make it more chest sounding?
