- Splatoon 3 is coming out NEXT MONTH however a lot of people have been claiming Splatoon 3 is just Splatoon 2.5. What? From that Splatoon 3 Direct last week, the game has a lot to offer! In today's video we will be ending this debate and show how Splatoon 3 is a fresh brand new full game.

Some people are saying that this could have easily been DLC for Splatoon 2, but I don't believe that. This game looks huge. This isn't like transitioning from MvC3 to UMvC3.
And also with the way splatoon 2 was handled, adding in splatoon 3's stuff would make the competitive scene a mess, it would just be better to start over to have a balanced experience.
The funny thing is this is pretty much just a repeat of what happened when splatoon 2 was announced.
People saw things through trailers only, and thought "How is this a sequel? They barely did *anything."*
And then when actually getting their hands on the game realized just how massive an impact those relatively few, from-the-ground-up changes had on the experience.
Nintendo pretty much nailed the core gameplay formula right off the bat with the first game, so of course sequels will only iterate slightly on what came before. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Well said. I haven't played ANY of the Splatoon games, just didn't have interest. But watching this made me open to trying all of them out.... I'll try the the demo when it's out

To each their own, but out of all the shooters I've played growing up, the Splatoon series is the one in which I've had the most fun.

It might also interest you to know: The development of Splatoon 2 started the same day the 1st game came out, while development for Splatoon 3 didn't start till sometime after the final fest in Splatoon 2.

Makes sense considering how big the final fest changes the game, i mean splatoon 3 really is chaos. So it makes sense the development would only start once they got their concept
@@grandmasoldpotroast642 True, Splatoon 3 got delayed twice. First was its original Summer 2021 date, and two swapped dates with X3.
People expected a new mode at launch but they don't realize that Clam Blitz came in a future update and not at launch. 5 ranked modes at launch is really daunting for new players to try and learn 5 separate modes, maps and rules.
I hope they revamp 8ball and try to bring it back. It was in the original splatoon 2 as a game mode like clam blitz was
Yeah! Not to mention, I’m sure they made changes to these modes in 3. There could be new rules in these modes that us veterans need to learn too.
I'm sorry, that doesn't make it right here. At the period of time Splatoon 2 came out, people just wanted Splatoon on Switch and i was also in that camp. Here it feels like we're needlessly holding back on the scope of new content added. Not to mention, Salmon Run was in Splatoon 2. No such equivalent here.

Such a good breakdown! I'm most excited about the customisation upgrades. Can't wait to get my hands on Splatoon 3.
I wonder how the general public (as in people who just go to the store to buy a game they think looks cool) would think. My guess is that they would either go “Oh look, it’s more of that thing I like”, or “But I already have a Splatoon on my Switch”, based on personal experience with stuff like Mario Party and the like. I know several people who passed up on Mario Party Superstars because they already have Super Mario Party, even though Superstars is the vastly superior game.
I'd say games with numbers aren't treated the same. If you see a 2 and a 3 next to them you'll at least check to see what's new, which will already get it some more attention from general gamers. It's like how pokemon always sells well even though people have it already, because they understand it's a new game. Many side games like Mario party don't have that effect.

To be fair, Splatoon 1 had the between match entertainment covered imo. Squid Jump was a perfect little time waster that gave you a break from normal gameplay and although the new lobby is very impressive I do find myself wanting something like it to return.

well you might have that soon.. inside the practice room? there’s a staircase that leads to a room full of game tables. i’m sure you’ll be able to play tableturf there. maybe you’ll be able to play inbetween turf war & ranked matches?
I find it so annoying when people say splat 3 is 2.5 because you can easily watch the direct again not even in normal speed and still find new details that can change the game
Not to mention, things like the physics and graphics updates arent something that could have been added to splat2

Is already a massive game changer that is going increase high level play by allot especially paired with
Chargers such as the squiffer imagine jumping in the air sniping someone mid fall and landing or that with I frame dodges things like instant kill specials can actually be dodged if your good enough
making it possible for Nintendo too basically make specials like Splatoon 1 but not having it be over powered given that if your good enough you can dodge it
Don’t forget table turf mode, it’s more than a mini game since you can battle with other people, It’s a new mode (a small one but still a mode) and I’m excited to play it!

I would also like to say that it is possible that a new mode will be either revealed after launch if it’s one of the things that’s been hidden or there will be one in an update some time later in the game’s lifespan just like the last time. The new mode thing (from people who straight up scream about it instead of just saying it’s a shame there was nothing revealed) really just feels more like wanting all the updates here and now, or ignoring the possible additions with said updates as if they don’t exist. I do dare say all the doom and gloom videos are extremely likely to age like milk due to the service nature of the Splatoon series.
I played splatoon 1 on the Wii U back when it came out in 2015 and I thought it was great. I skipped splatoon 2 bc I didn’t get a switch until mid 2020 and I had no one to play with. Needless to say I am very excited for splatoon 3

Overall verdict.
--Bunch of stuff nobody actually cares about.
--Most of the stages are Splatoon 2 stages. Even the a couple of the ones people hated are back.
--No new ranked matches. Still the same garbage where nobody even really plays two modes (clams! Still in the game! WHY!?). Adding checkpoints did nothing to make rainmaker not end in under a min. It is still easy to just smash the other team if they suck. Waste of time. Like it is just a joke they relased this with basically no changes.
--Emotes are pointless. I wish I could skip that screen. Like, just let me play the game. I don't care about emotes. Cause you can't actually to them while in the game. It is just the end screen. Totally utterly pointless.
Like 3 things that are actually new or interesting that they actually had to work on are in the game. That's it. Most of this stuff are things nobody really cares about, or are weapons nobody really uses.
This is just splatoon 2.5. I am dissapointed I wasted my money.

You left out a ton of what Splatoon 2 added. Also, some of your new additions for 3 make no sense. “New Stages” or “New Bosses” for instance? Are you implying that Splatoon 2 didn’t have new stages and introduce a ton of new bosses by implementing Salmon Run? Lol okay.

I was worried about lack of content until the direct a couple weeks ago now I firmly believe that Splatoon 3 will be great fun and I’m so excited.
Coming from someone who played the demo and being a Splatoon fan (Splatoon 1 Veteran) I love it already, only issue I have is that how someone could have shot you even after dying. It might just be just some early bugs that could probably be fixed but other than that the rest of online ran fantastically. It felt really smooth.

I put tons of hours into splatoon 2 with friends, and I feel like I had way more fun with the splatoon 3 demo than I did with most of my time with 2. Idk if it’s cause it was new and exciting or if it’s cause the changes and new tricolor mode were exciting and fun. Either way basically convinced me not to wait and get it at launch
Also, people are really excited for the “card game mode.” It’s not a mode. It’s a mini game in an arcade cabinet in the plaza, like the Guitar Hero style mini game from Splatoon 2. Not that I’m complaining, I just really want people to keep their expectations in check.

I played S1 and just a little of S2, I stopped playing S2 because they didnt change the stages available. I got annoyed that could only play 2 stages per period per mode. They could cycle through the whole list of stages to keep it varied, like most games do.

The thing is that most of the new stuff could’ve just come as a big splatoon2 update.
But:
1.it would need to be free for it to work and not divide splatoon2 player base between who did and didn’t get the update (while they can have us pay for a brand new game)
2.it’s more likely for people who didn’t try the series yet to buy a brand new title than an old one that got a big update.
Don’t get this the wrong way, I quite enjoy splatoon3, but it’s clear that except certain aspects it’s they couldn’t had put in 2 (again I like splatoon3)
A year later and we still don’t have a new Anarchy Mode… that’s what makes the game feel incomplete for me
Not to mention the AMD Super Resolution Technique being utilized in 3 and NOT present in 1 & 2.

I haven’t played any of the splatoon games myself but I have seen other people’s play through of the previous games and I wanted to see if it lives up to the hype I’ve already got the demo downloaded and have a week to wait for my first time splatoon experience and I’ll be on team scissors and hopefully every other team Big Man represents in the future

Splatoon 2 was basically a port with a slightly different story and more balanced since they could change that without people going crazy. The story in splatoon 3 seems way more different this time, people think this is a 2.5 when splatoon 2 was more of a splatoon 1.5

I played the demo and i think it was amazing. My only complaints was tri co!or turf wars being too unbalanced and squid surge and squid dodge were useless,i didnt even use them after i found out how to use it

Additional comment: I think it’s unfair to say Splatoon 2 is a complete game with the Octo Expansion. It’s paid DLC. The base game should already be “completed”.

I tired 1 and wasn’t the biggest fan, 2 I skipped but my friends surprised me today by taking me to game stop and preordered it for me and I already have a rule when it comes to games that people give me, I’ll play it for a month and if I don’t wanna keep playing after the month then I won’t play it, but you know what...im excited!

Splatoon 2 felt like a 1.5. But when the DLC came out, then it felt like a 2.0.

All the features you’re mentioning could have just been dlc especially the story. I love Splatoon but just adding stuff on doesn’t make it a need for a sequel.
Shooters always release sequels half way through console generations to refresh the competitive and to keep people playing the series, I’m sure splatoon 4 on nintendos next system with graphically look allot better, for me the quality of life improvements of splatoon 3 make it a worth while purchase especially now that I don’t have to waste minutes of my life every time I go on to play.

This is exactley what happened to me. When it was revealed I was like: "But wait... Splatoon 2 is on the switch wtf...". And then I didn't bother educating myself about the game more.
Then the direct dropped and I was like: "hmmm why not". Lets just say... after watching the direct I immediateley started playing splatoon 2 again, aswell as the splatfest Demo. (I joined solatoon 2 when there were like only 2 splatfests to go :(. ) I got to remember the feeling when the winner was announced and it was incredible. How could I forget about that... (Btw: my team won 🙃) And after that I immediately preordered splatoon 3...

From the reveal trailer, I feel like it’s been obvious that the game is a sequel. If you look at 2 and 3 next to each other, you can tell they’re both Splatoon games, but you can also tell they’re different. The trailers were… odd, yes, but they all held new content. And, yeah, if people still think this is Splatoon 2.5 after the direct, they’re either 5 years old or just hating on the franchise.
I expect 2 new ranked modes so 6 overall rank modes and 2 new dlc campaigns so 3 Story Modes this time. Since it's Splatoon 3
I have never played a Splatoon game before, and I bought the third one about 3 days ago. I’m hooked.
This game is 100% just updates on Splatoon 2. Splatoon 2 was just Splatoon 1 moved to the switch like Mario kart and smash. “Just add on to what makes it great.” Kinda like how dlc works. So just to continue playing Splatoon you’re actually being forced to buy Splatoon 3 instead of Nintendo just continuing to update the game. Salmon run is weak compared to splatoon 2.
As someone who has been playing since day 1, I’m very angry at this new splatoon, I’ve always used the same weapons special combo since day one and in this new game they took it away, the beloved Splashdown is gone! My combo was always roller, curling bomb and splash down, it’s the only weapons I ever used and ever wanted to use. In this new game the roller is there with the curling bomb but they replaced the splashdown with a worthless and useless new beacon that’s easily destroyed by you enemy. Taking away the way I’ve played the game since day 1 is extremely frustrating and I think I’m just going to stick to playing splatoon 2.
After playing Splatoon 3... It really feels like a glorified Splatoon 2 update.
Like, they added some QoL features that could have easily been added in 2, but they just decided not to. Like partying up for turf war (the only pvp mode I care about), or having Salmon run be accessible 24/7.
The weapons don't feel all that different either and the splatanas and bows don't feel like they change the game up at all. The specials are just... Meh?
Btw, every CoD feels different, which is why people like me only like certain ones. OW2, by comparison, is a complete overhaul of the game. More than just "some new weapons and stages". I didn't think OW2 was changing enough, but comparing it to splat 3 puts things in perspective.
Anyways, I'm having fun, but it is literally the same game with minor QoL changes and some special weapons swapped for a few new ones... Splat 2 with a $60 "fresh" coat of Ink, I guess?
What I would have wanted was a system overhaul, like unlinking subs/specials from specific weapons. It's really annoying finding a weapon I'll think I like, but the sub/special won't be my cup of tea. It just makes me lean towards sticking with what I'm already comfortable using.

It really is. It's just Splatoon 2 (2). Mostly in regards to the MP, which is what most people play it for. Campaign is fine and at least Salmon Run is available 24/7. Not really stuff I'd say warrants a whole new title for full price.
The same people complaining about this are about to go and get OverWatch 2.

Wdym they don’t usually release mainline games on the same console? Xenoblade 2 and 3 are on the same console. Pokemon SS and Pokemon SV are going to be on the same console. Breath of the wild 2 will also probably be on the Switch so your point at the beginning makes no sense.

The reason splatoon 2 was so rushed was because the WII U Sold horribly. Nintendo was afraid that the switch wouldn't sell decently and the company might go bankrupt. Splatoon was a great selling game at the time so they figured selling Splat 2 near the launch of the switch could increase sales. As we know the switch is an amazing console so there is no need to worry about bankruptcy.
@Loafer Add ARMS was in devement during Splatoon 1 and AC:NH was in early stages during Splatoon 2.

I feel that this is more of a sequel than splatoon 2 was to splatoon. I love splatoon 2 and 1 but 2 did do some upgrades, but I feel it was more of a port since the Wii U flopped. Splatoon 3 looks like it adds more gameplay changes.

I played Splatoon 2 on release, really enjoyed it, even the DLC and take it from me I played the Demo of Splatoon 3 and I really enjoyed it, no joke, the weapons and new abilities make it way more fun, so if you've played the Demo and loved it, buy it, if not, don't buy it, simple.

I'm gonna buy this game for yt content. And as a newcomer to splatoon. I'll have 2 to come back to and finish that game. I still have to buy octo expansion 2 lol
You can actually get Octo Expansion and a few other goodies for free if you get the Switch Online Expansion Pass, its an extra 30 dollars a year but it gives you Octo Expansion for no additional cost as well as stuff like the N64 Emulator and all new Mario Kart tracks for free. If you only care about Octo Expansion tho just go for that by itself king

Nintendo releases multiple main line games of the same series in the same console all the time.
I was hoping to see more new weapons or different versions including gear bonus’s or specials. Otherwise, it looks great and is fun. No complaints but it still feels like 2.5. Just a huge update. Splatoon is splatoon so just okay and have fun.
I think some of the people who were callin S3 a S2.5 are just projecting from their favoritism for Splatoon 2 and not playing the first game. I’m at a place where I didn’t get a chance to play S2 due to not being able to have a job yet for online subscription and buy the game or console and only played the demo for 1 with a lot of confusion on how to jump with squid form, so I can’t speak for 1 or 2. But thanks to video, I can speak for 3 with more confidence.
in my opinion splatoon 2 is way more fun to play with a friend than splatoon 3

Heh heh.... the game launched and actually had barely any content. They didn't add any new modes like salmon run in Splatoon 2 and the weapons are sort of meh.
Can't wait to pay 350 bucks or maybe more for a game + online membership and a dlc

I stopped playing Splatoon 2 because it was SO unbalanced. Every match, one team would get the other trapped in a corner and just dominate. It got the point where it was pointless. Very frustrating. If they fix that in 3, I would definitely buy it.
I noticed that Splatoon 3 already has paid DLC. Content that should have been included in the game. It’s as if they created the DLC just to sell it. Compared to the DLC that gets dedicated time and devotion.
like tbh even if all the new content added into splatoon 3 at launch was dlc for Splatoon 2 it would have been a like $40 dlc. This doesn't even take into account all the updates coming to splatoon 3 so idk why anyone would even complain about this being a sequel to splat 2. The changes added will also be a big change and adding anything as an update (specials, new moves , and weapons) would have massively changed the feel of splatoon 2 that it would have basically felt like a new game.

I mean I have no doubt that this is going to change because of future updates but Splatoon 3 is a pretty iterative sequel. Most of the new stuff you mentioned are small things, small things that definitely add up for sure, but still there's not something big that says this is why you need to spend 60 to get this game when you already have 2. At least not from a more casual perspective, there's not much that differentiates the gameplay of 3 from the gameplay of 2. There's some really cool quality of life features that look really nice and I think if you're a big Splatoon fan then the sequel is a no brainier to get. Theres nothing wrong with admitting that a sequel is iterative though. Like you said the game doesn't have to reinvent the wheel every time. While I don't think I can justify buying it at launch I definitely have my eyes on it and some future updates might convince me to hop on.
I love Splatoon 2. My most played game by like several hundred hours. I’m enjoying 3 so far but…it feels very familiar to the Octo Expansion, particularly in the single player mode. There are some nice upgrades for sure, but in my mind this is just splitting the player base at the moment, like many other sequel releases.
Splatoon 2 is one my favorite games. I started watching this video to learn about the new game. I will not be buying the game at this point. Based on this video alone. Despite your bias, there is no reason to buy the new game. Imo.
Tbh Splatoon 2 seemed
more like a clone of the original (at launch at least), and that game also had most of the same limits and flaws that Splatoon 1 had. Splatoon 3 has brought many fundamental improvements to the game, however the 3rd game still isn’t perfect of course.

As for starting out, like J. said, you'll be less likely to play against higher level/ranking players due to the fact that there's a splatoon 2 save transfer, so I'm sure most will utilize that.
people just dont like splatoon
because its a relatively newer franchise. people dont want to give new things a chance. they just want mario kart 169 🤓 or they want battle royal in order for splatoon to be a “real” online game 🤓
