I love how excited the Sims community is to welcome new players. There's a lot to learn about this game, but there's also so many people like LilSimsie who make helpful resources like this! There is one more shortcut that I think is worth mentioning. Ctrl+F can be used to cut floor tiles in half diagonally. It's great to use to make custom floors or to create a clean edge where the floorboards meet in the corner of a wrap around porch. Also, the fish, frogs, and insects from the debug can be placed in the world and they will be inside little aquariums. The fish can be mounted to hang on the wall. There are also feathers in the Cats & Dogs expansion that can be hung on the wall and they turn into little framed pictures of of the birds. I hope that makes since? That draw to remove a wall once one of the things I keep seeing you and other builders do.
With the wall tool you can hold shift and while it's held it lets you drag out a square. This can be used in combination with ctrl to delete a square of walls.
Thank you so much! I often hit the b to get to the wall tool but then get annoyed at myself bc I wanted the square tool, I had no idea there's a way I can just fix that while still on the wall tool
If you're on Playstation, here is the info altered for you: 1:we can't do this 2:you can open the cheat menu with L1,L2,R1, and R2 all at the same time. Then, just do the rest like normal 3: you can cycle through the grid with L2 in build mode. It will give you full tile, half tile, and free placing of items. We can't freely rotate things. 4:You can go into top down view with the right button on the dpad in build mode 5:to raise items up or move items down, hold both bumpers(L2 and R2) at the same time and use the up and down the dpad 6:cannot set camera angles 7:this works the same, just with the different controls 8:use both bumpers (L2 and R2) and use the right and left on the dpad 9:cannot use quarter tiles as far as I know(might be wrong on this, pls let me know) 10:we can FINALLY do this! Just use the triggers L1 or R1 11: we use to be able to cycle between these with just a button but with a recent update, it was changed and I don't know if it's possible now(more experienced ppl pls tell me cause I would like to know) 12: works the same 13: works the same 14: not possible as far as I know 15:not possible as far as I know 16:not possible as far as I know 17:does this by default 18: works the same 19:works the same(you just can't redraw it- just move the stairs and delete individually with the hammer) and also yes delete the underside of the stairs 20:works the same 21:works the same I'm not an expert but I hope this helps someone Lilsimsie, if you want a challenge, build something complex on console LMAOOO
I love it ! You and the french simstuber -NS- had the same idea with the free release of the base game ! She released the same kind of video today with tips. It's like the comunity all around the world is getting ready to welcome new players ! I LOVE IT !
I bought the sims last month because I was impatient… I binge watched any tutorial videos you and Deli made and it helped so much. I’ll be coming back to this one especially for a long time!
I've been playing the Sims 4 solidly for the last five years and have not used half of these useful tips. Thanks so much @lilsimsie! This is a major game changer.
I have been playing the sims for years, so there were only two things in this video that I didn’t know about, the F5 for more detailed placement and the roofing options one. The F5 one will come in handy for me so much. Thanks for this video.
I didn't knew I will be so happy for other players to discover this game:D I mean I remember when I get it 4 years ago, before that I played only S1 so it was so dramatic change for me, I was shoked how much better it is in buy and build mode!
Thank you Kayla, even as an experienced Sims player these tips are super helpful to have in one video in case I forget how to do some along the way ❤️❤️❤️
Oh my God. You have no idea how difficult I found playing the game with the new UI. I've played it before the whole sims 4 with all the packs. But the little hot keys. Like I was trying to rotate a furniture piece and trust me I just couldn't. It was funny and stupid and crazy. And I am so grateful to you for uploading this particular video. Love that you actually care this much. I've literally paused the video just so I can write this essay. 😂😂😂😂
@@antonizajkowski9698 r u crazy have you seen the dedication she has for all this. No one who wouldn't care would out in this much effort just the thought to not only go through all these but to also list down everything in description for people to screenshot. That's something and it shows
@@antonizajkowski9698 it's still worth appreciating. I really like her and I really like that she did this. I don't think any other sims RUclipsr who has the SAME job did this.
I always wondered how you had such good camera angles - this makes so much sense!! Also I was CTRL+9-ing and getting so annoyed I couldn't raise objects 🤦♀️
This is so wholesome, I first discovered Kayla 3 years ago randomly looking for how to build roofs, now she is welcoming new players from her new office in her OWN house!
Thank you so much Kayla for all of this information! I have been playing Sims 4 since the base game became free in October and since I only have the base game and one free pack which is the Christmas one, I don’t have a lot of options when I build, but knowing these little hacks, I can go back to all of my old builds and fix things!
I have never played Sims before (only watched your videos for five years lol) I'm finally going to get to play it today! So excited XD If you make more intro to sims videos, that would be so helpful!
This is soooooo helpful! I’ve been playing the sims for years now and I always wondered how people would alt place clutter objects! Thank you! Imma be saving this video for future reference.
Roofs clipping when making a stair landing can also be solved by making the fence go through the stair opening. Like at the top of the stairs, don't break up the fence, but continue it. The game will make it invisible and sims can use the stairs, but the game will also recognize the space as a room and not clip the roof.
Good tip! I thought the fence going through the stair opening had stopped working? I remember sometime around the release of Snowy Escape all of a sudden the stairs of most of my downloaded builds became unusable and I eventually figured out that I needed to delete that fence part. Maybe it's been fixed since then, I'll be sure to try it out later. 😃
Well done Kayla, I wish the Sims team could update this to make it easier to clutter where you want by adding more slots on shelf’s and counters, that would help so much.
I remember after few years of playing someone show me in CAS this little "+" above outfits and then I realized I can make 5 outfits in every category. I was so shoked XD
10:30 I would like to add that the button over there won't only give you infinite money, it will also give you the option to place all of that stuff that require a certain level in a certain job to be be unlocked
I have purchased this back in feb..and gurlll ...I needed this..thank you for adding all the tips as well!!! Thank you thank you thank you..I'm in my 40 and this game is life changing..it's a need for my mental health..lol..now with this I will have soo much fun!!!
Its absolutely brill that you put this together, especially for any newer Simmers that are coming into the game or returning to it. I know when I got Sims 4 the last game I played was Sims 2 Pets and it took me so long to work my way around everything. I'm positive any future gamers will be very appreciative for these hints and tips - hopefully it'll make build mode more fun for them as well
I had to talk myself into watching this after spending so many thousand hours building stuff in the Sims. Had to tell myself, "You know you don't always find every little thing!" And I was right! I learned like half a dozen new things from this. Awesome. 😊
This is so so helpful!! i've been watching sims build videos for about a year now, but I've been so intimidated to play the game because of all the controls. I just downloaded it last night and this tutorial is by far the most helpful I've seen! Thank you for typing out the controls in the description
These tips are always so helpful but sometimes I do hate the fact that console simmers are often forgotten and either don’t know how to do most of these useful tips or aren’t even able to do so bc we play on console. Sorry for the rant this genuinely was helpful, thank you 🙏
The base game has so much and plenty of mods if you play pc support just base game if you crave more free stuff. Its a great game and I hope youve been enjoying the world you created! Im a long time simmer and still learn things from these videos. One I didnt see/remember covered but another comment mentioned ctrl+F makes floor like carpet diagnal half pieces.
this is honestly the BEST video i've seen so far with tips to build houses. I am a beginner, but I already know all of the "normal" stuff so that like really initial tutorials don't help me squat. but these tricks change everything! thank you thank you! gonna check out your other videos for sure!
I’ve been playing Sims 4 since January 2014 and I’ve always struggled with building! I would never make my own houses because of it. I knew a couple tips from this video, but so many others provided the a-ha moments I needed!! I think I’m going to start practicing building again with these tips and maybe I can eventually make some houses or lots I’d be happy to play with my sims in 😊
Omg I have been a Sims player since the OG Sims days…some of these tips totally blew my mind!! 🤦🏻♀️ Cannot wait to play and build something!! Thank you so so much for this! ❤😁
The first couple of tips I've known for a while and I got worried I wouldn't learn anything, but you quickly proved me wrong! There are SO many useful tips that I never would've known because they don't tell you these things in-game
This is so helpful. I tried looking up videos on how to put things on counters without slotting into spots, and most videos were way too long without getting to the point. Yours is amazing and covers everything so compactly and very clear!!! Thank you so much
Thank you SO much!! I didn’t manage to freely rotate objects, cause I didn’t know you had to switch cameras! You just opened a new world of possibilities !
I love building houses even in the old Sims games. Thank you for this tutorial. The jump from 3 to 4 has me greatly confused. Excited to make houses now! And if you’ve got more tutorials, please share them 😊
I've been playing for awhile, but there are a few things you mentioned that are totally new to me. I appreciate how you provide the essential information without including a bunch of unnecessary rambling lol. So yeah, thanks for the info!
Oh, didn't know the F5 one! Gotta try if it works on my "Swedish" keyboard (we have 3 more letters in the alphabet, so some buttons are in different spots than American ones). Most roof tips were also new to me.
If it helps at all, the F5-thing works on my Finnish keyboard! I think they might be quite similar to each other ☺️ Some computers/keyboards might require “fn” + “F5” combination though (including my HP laptop), so that’s worth a try if just F5 isn’t working.
if you click ctrl+shift+tab it switches to the sims 3 camera as well so if you want to move an item using the sims 3 camera you can switch fast with that and then click ctrl+shift+tab again to go back to the sims 4 camera
I love this! I could always use more build tips. I'm fine at decorating interiors but I feel like all my builds always end up just boring boxes from the outside 😂
I've been playing this godforesaken game for years and I never knew about the ability to edit one side of a roof at a time! Awesome tips Kayla, and welcome new simmers!!
This is so incredibly helpful! I'm not a builder by any means, it's not my favorite part of gameplay but I do like to redecorate a little when I move a family in and I absolutely love clutter. I actually just made a live in cafe and the paintings weren't looking how I wanted so knowing how to scale and move them more easily will definitely make an improvement :D
I really wish there was a video with these tips for console players. I've figured out some of them myself but some of these tricks I still dont know how to do
Unfortunately there are a lot of these hacks that we can’t do on console, but many we can! I know how to do them, but can’t explain them without my controller with me lol. We can use all the same cheats, slot items where we want (her paper towel example, size up/down objects, place objects on full/half/or free grid, and use debug. One tip of something I do, if there’s something I find on the gallery I like (for example a tv raised up on the cottage living fireplace) I delete everything except that & save it as a room to my library. Then I can place that in any build I want! Hope this helps! 😊
thank you SO much for these!! i used to play sims 3 constantly when i was younger, and with sims 4 being free now i was jumping right in and watching your videos! this literally helped me so much and i’m so excited to get my bob the builder on lol
Imagine how much agony/screaming into the void I could have saved myself from if I had known about holding shift to change only one side of a roof. I thought I knew all the things. Thank you, you have given me back years on my life.
This is super duper helpful. I'd been watching Kelsey Impicciche for a while before I even got back to The Sims, and once I did I came across your content, which I LOVE. And I'll watch Simmers do some of this stuff, and sometimes you mention how to do it as you're doing it, but I rarely retain it. Having a resource like this with a bunch of tips in one place is awesome, and I would love it if you make it a series.
i was an architecture major and i was so used to making models and rendering with shortcuts and commands that i use in those softwares.. i'm not even kidding, the amount of time i wasted trying to figure out how to build in the sims even when i've played it in the past is embarrassing😂
Thank you so much for this, Kayla! One of my kids just started playing the day it went free (I've been playing since the first sims and watching your videos for over a year) and he's really enjoying it and loves these tips!
My dad (who is 61) just started playing Sims 4 and I sent him this tutorial. Thanks for making a tips video which is accessible to brand new players

If you're on Playstation, here is the info altered for you:
1:we can't do this
2:you can open the cheat menu with L1,L2,R1, and R2 all at the same time. Then, just do the rest like normal
3: you can cycle through the grid with L2 in build mode. It will give you full tile, half tile, and free placing of items. We can't freely rotate things.
4:You can go into top down view with the right button on the dpad in build mode
5:to raise items up or move items down, hold both bumpers(L2 and R2) at the same time and use the up and down the dpad
6:cannot set camera angles
7:this works the same, just with the different controls
8:use both bumpers (L2 and R2) and use the right and left on the dpad
9:cannot use quarter tiles as far as I know(might be wrong on this, pls let me know)
10:we can FINALLY do this! Just use the triggers L1 or R1
11: we use to be able to cycle between these with just a button but with a recent update, it was changed and I don't know if it's possible now(more experienced ppl pls tell me cause I would like to know)
12: works the same
13: works the same
14: not possible as far as I know
15:not possible as far as I know
16:not possible as far as I know
17:does this by default
18: works the same
19:works the same(you just can't redraw it- just move the stairs and delete individually with the hammer) and also yes delete the underside of the stairs
20:works the same
21:works the same
I'm not an expert but I hope this helps someone
Lilsimsie, if you want a challenge, build something complex on console LMAOOO
I love it ! You and the french simstuber -NS- had the same idea with the free release of the base game ! She released the same kind of video today with tips. It's like the comunity all around the world is getting ready to welcome new players ! I LOVE IT !
Ive been a long time fan and referenced this video since i finally got a gaming laptop and can play the sims 4! Tysm Kayla
I bought the sims last month because I was impatient… I binge watched any tutorial videos you and Deli made and it helped so much. I’ll be coming back to this one especially for a long time!
I’ve officially been watching Simsie for too long now, I already knew all of those build tips directly from her videos 🤣❤️
I'm so glad it went for free. It's my 1st time owning it and I absolutely love it
One of my top favorite games! I hope you enjoy it and welcome to the sims community!
I didn't knew I will be so happy for other players to discover this game:D I mean I remember when I get it 4 years ago, before that I played only S1 so it was so dramatic change for me, I was shoked how much better it is in buy and build mode!
those "giveaways" are scam! Please don't click it:(
Thank you Kayla, even as an experienced Sims player these tips are super helpful to have in one video in case I forget how to do some along the way ❤️❤️❤️
Does she care though?
@@antonizajkowski9698 yes she does!
@@antonizajkowski9698 r u crazy have you seen the dedication she has for all this. No one who wouldn't care would out in this much effort just the thought to not only go through all these but to also list down everything in description for people to screenshot. That's something and it shows
@@mahreenshahid6950 yk that's literally her job..?
@@antonizajkowski9698 it's still worth appreciating. I really like her and I really like that she did this. I don't think any other sims RUclipsr who has the SAME job did this.
Thank you so much! There's def. a huge difference before and after applying these tips to my builds. Not being locked to the grid is so powerful
I always wondered how you had such good camera angles - this makes so much sense!! Also I was CTRL+9-ing and getting so annoyed I couldn't raise objects 🤦♀️
omgg that’s why it never worked for me, i would get frustrated too
This is so wholesome, I first discovered Kayla 3 years ago randomly looking for how to build roofs, now she is welcoming new players from her new office in her OWN house!
Kayla! I have been playing sims for years, how do I not know half of these! You are a true oracle of the Sims 🙂
I have been playing the Sims 4 since 2014 and there’s still things I learned from this video 😅 Thanks a lot for this!
This is soooooo helpful! I’ve been playing the sims for years now and I always wondered how people would alt place clutter objects! Thank you! Imma be saving this video for future reference.
Your F5 quarter tile tip totally transformed my builds. Thank you! 🙏🏼
Thank you even though I started playing in 2019 I still look for any tips that will help 😊
I play since 2017 when it comes out to console on Xbox one s also thanks for the tip
@@joshfritsch3835 I play on xbox one
@@YourLocal_Simmer cool 😎
I love how more people will be playing this game now! The sims community is so welcoming towards new people :D
yes simsie, do more tutorials please. I know most of the tips here but I rarely build anything because I suck at building 😭
This is like... Master class quality. This helped a lot. Thank you! I would like to see more tutorials. And also this is very quick!
Awesome. 😊
I'm coming back to the sims 4 after years of not playing since it first came out. More tutorials please! There's so much now
This is so so helpful!! i've been watching sims build videos for about a year now, but I've been so intimidated to play the game because of all the controls. I just downloaded it last night and this tutorial is by far the most helpful I've seen! Thank you for typing out the controls in the description
Years of building and I'm still learning, haha
Thank you for the alt-place roof tip! That's gonna be super helpful later, for sure :D
These tips are always so helpful but sometimes I do hate the fact that console simmers are often forgotten and either don’t know how to do most of these useful tips or aren’t even able to do so bc we play on console.
Sorry for the rant this genuinely was helpful, thank you 🙏
Have you tried connecting a keyboard and mouse to your console? It's what I use instead of controller but, idk if it will help with the cheats
I switched to the sims 3 camera and it took a bit to get used to, but now I would be so frustrated if I went back
i literally love your account and how whenever i need a video, you magically post one when i need it ❤
Oh my gosh thankyou so much this is incredibly helpful! I just got the base game because it's now free to play and this is really cool!
Cannot wait to play and build something!! Thank you so so much for this! ❤😁
I’d love to see Kayla build a whole house only using the completed rooms in build mode
The first couple of tips I've known for a while and I got worried I wouldn't learn anything, but you quickly proved me wrong! There are SO many useful tips that I never would've known because they don't tell you these things in-game
heyy! thank you so much for the tips! i have been looking for so many tips for the sims 4!
This is so helpful. I tried looking up videos on how to put things on counters without slotting into spots, and most videos were way too long without getting to the point. Yours is amazing and covers everything so compactly and very clear!!! Thank you so much
praying for the sims team to let us keybind the mouse controls differently so we dont have to choose between the cameras.. PLEASE it's been years
Thank you SO much!! I didn’t manage to freely rotate objects, cause I didn’t know you had to switch cameras! You just opened a new world of possibilities !
the way i've been playing the game since 2015 and this video is still helpful for me 😭
I’ve played sims 4 since 2016 and this video was so useful haha!!! Still so many things I don’t know after playing for 6 years. Thank you Kayla!!!!
I love building houses even in the old Sims games.
Thank you for this tutorial. The jump from 3 to 4 has me greatly confused.
Excited to make houses now!
And if you’ve got more tutorials, please share them 😊
didnt know sims was this detailed and its crazy how beginner friendly it is and how experienced it can he
I ALWAYS WONDERED HOW YOU DID THAT WITH THE CAMERA
@@annilehtonen1076 They are the same. I'm Finnish, too. Our kind of keyboard is commonly known as a Swedish keyboard.
so helpful! ive been trying to learn building in sims and im overwhelmed, this is a great start and im gonna binge watch ur tutorials from now on
if you click ctrl+shift+tab it switches to the sims 3 camera as well so if you want to move an item using the sims 3 camera you can switch fast with that and then click ctrl+shift+tab again to go back to the sims 4 camera
OMG a trick I didn't know! That will be super helpful. Thank you!
@@sienna7241 np :D
This video literally changed my life, I've been playing the Sims for YEARS and I never knew about those possibilities lol
Thanks a lot! I got into building lots recently, it was super helpful!
Never heard of the 0 and 9 up and down tip! And the clever placing items that insist on slotting! AND the changing the size of objects!! Thank you!
Finally, us moneyless people can finally get sims4 without pirating!
@@joegaming8101 pirating is bad!!! i hate having all the packs I want! 😡
I've figured out some of them myself but some of these tricks I still dont know how to do
Maybe list them here and someone might be able to help you 😊
I was thinking the same thing
There are just search it up
Unfortunately there are a lot of these hacks that we can’t do on console, but many we can!
I’ve done a video on some build tips and I play on console hope this helps
thank you SO much for these!! i used to play sims 3 constantly when i was younger, and with sims 4 being free now i was jumping right in and watching your videos! this literally helped me so much and i’m so excited to get my bob the builder on lol
Imagine how much agony/screaming into the void I could have saved myself from if I had known about holding shift to change only one side of a roof. I thought I knew all the things. Thank you, you have given me back years on my life.
That's definitely a nicer take on it than to think of all the years lost, haha
Wow! I got into TS4 this morning and i'm loving to build and your video was fantastic! Thank you very much you've changed my life in 20min 💚
Having a resource like this with a bunch of tips in one place is awesome, and I would love it if you make it a series.
i've been playing for like 10 years and watched you as well as other good builders like James and Deli, and still learned a few tips
i was an architecture major and i was so used to making models and rendering with shortcuts and commands that i use in those softwares.. i'm not even kidding, the amount of time i wasted trying to figure out how to build in the sims even when i've played it in the past is embarrassing😂
I wish you’d talked longer, you were so helpful! You reminded me of all I had forgotten and told me what i wanted to know haha thanks
* takes notes *
Thank you so much for this, Kayla! One of my kids just started playing the day it went free (I've been playing since the first sims and watching your videos for over a year) and he's really enjoying it and loves these tips!
