  • A walk in the Lake District which includes Tarn Hows, Black Fell, Hodge Close Quarry, Holme Fell & Yew Tree Tarn.
A walk up to two of the lower Wainwright Fells, Black Fell & Holme Fell.
The walk starts from the scenic Tarn Hows before heading up to Black Fell ( Black Crag) What it lacks in height (323m) it certainly makes up for in views. Superb views looking over to Windermere, the Eastern Fells and the Langdale Fells from Black Fell.
From Black Fell we enjoy a very scenic walk over to the dramatic Hodge Close Quarry. Care is needed when viewing Hodge Close Quarry as there are sudden drops from the edge of the Quarry.
From Hodge Close Quarry we follow the path through some woodland and past a disused reservoir before reaching the summit of Holme Fell.
Another low fell at 317m but again with great views.
From Holme Fell we follow the path down to Yew Tree Tarn before heading back up to Tarn Hows.
    Distance is aroud 7.5miles

Eddie, superb video, top class quality and what a day you both got! I laughed when I realised you did in one walk what we did in 2.5!! Those tops are confusing though and the OS Map doesn't make it very clear which one is the summit. You really don't have to go high to get spectacular views and have a great walk - Tarn Hows, Yew Tree Tarn and Hodge Close Quarry are all spectacular in their own right, not forgetting Tom Gill with lots of water! You got it all! Your video brought back great memories for us from last year and in just over 5 weeks we will be back. I will pop you an email shortly. Regards, Ashley

Thanks Ashley, it was a really good walk with plenty of interest. You are right about the confusing summits, especially Holme Fell, I think we covered all the main summit area. We also went over the style on Black Fell to cover the different areas of that fell aswell. You are right, you don't need to go high to get great views. 5 weeks until your trip to the lakes, looking forward to seeing you both, keep in touch. Thanks again for watching and commenting, it is always appreciated. Take care. Eddie.

Another brilliant video as always Eddie. Brought back many memories for me as Holme Fell, Yew Tree Tarn, Hodge Close and Tarn Howes were amongst the first places I visited when I first “discovered“ the Lake District.
A discovery that has become a great passion of mine ..or as my wife says.. an obsession haha! Thanks for taking the time to post it.

Hi Alan, thanks. It was a really nice walk and the first time we have been in this area ( It won't be the last) I think I have the same " obsession" with the Lakes as you, ha! Thanks again for watching & commenting, it is appreciated. Take care. Cheers. Eddie.

Thanks David. The views were limited due to the haze, but we still had some great views and had a great day. It just shows, you don't need to go too high to get great views. Thanks again for watching & commenting, it is appreciated. Take care. Cheers. Eddie.

I was at tarn Hows twice in a couple of weeks last summer, for the first time with my son and grandson and then back for a friends last Wainwright when she climbed Black Fell but we went up from Glenn Mary car park, passed the waterfalls, on the Coniston Road. Never been up Holm Fell before or passed Hodge Close quarry so a couple to put on my list for this year but brilliant views from both summits despite the haze. Yes, Carol did find a nice seat and I know another person who would have appreciated that too lol. Great watch and a couple of really colourful still shots as well, cheers Alan

    • @eddiecaisley5746

Thanks Alan. It was a really nice walk. Tarn Hows is a really nice place, it is definitely somewhere we would go back to. I remember watching your Tarn Hows videos and your Black Fell video with a friend completing the Wainwrights. For two of the lower Wainwrights they both had good views and well worth the walk up. Hodge Close Quarry was a nice addition to this walk with some steep drops! Yes, I bet Mrs Metalman would have found that seat aswell, ha! I was in two minds whether to start this walk from Glen Mary Car Park, but decided to start from the Tarn Hows Car Park. Holme Fell could be easily reached from the Glen Mary Car Park, heading to Yew Tree Tarn first, then up to Holme Fell. Thanks for watching & commenting Alan, it is appreciated. Take care. Cheers. Eddie.

Nice day out Ed. I had done these two fells a few months back. We did Black fell on Christmas day 2020. I also like your ascent if the east face of Binsey, without oxygen 🤣Still healing my broken little toe🥹

The rock outcrop with the cairn isn't the Wainwright summit of Holme Fell. The Wainwright summit sketch is the higher rock outcrop to the south that you also visited. See AW's sketch on page Holme Fell 3, The Southern Fells.
