- Habibati! It was bound to happen. At some point Joey HAD to show me pre-Floor Nightwish, and that's exactly what happened. 'The Phantom of the Opera' was one of those songs that you guys kept requesting, and he finally obliged. And as amazing as Tarja was in this, especially after being lucky enough to listen to Floor for so long, it was Marco that stole the show. I know, I know! This was supposed to be about Tarja, but what can I say, my ears like what they like. I loved this performance so so much, and now it feels like a new journey of Nightwish that I am going to be taking and I can't wait!

This was the golden age of Nightwish. The lyrics, the sound, the vocals from both Tarja and Marco. The entire End of an Era concert is epic.

Tarja is absolutely incredible and so is Floor. Tarja is the reason why people started listening Nightwish and Floor is the reason why we keep doing that. Only a vocalist like Floor would be able to be in the same level as Tarja!

Fun fact about Floor and Tarja. The 2 of them are good friends and they go way back. When Tarja was with Nightwish Floor's previous band After Forever was opening for them. Actually when Floor was offered the position in NIghtwish, she first asked Tarja if she is ok with it. And also they even have a duet togheter at one of Tarja's solo concerts :)

This version is actually a favourite of Andrew Lloyd Webber's because of Marco's performance. He thought Marco sounded the way that he'd always wanted the phantom to sound.

I love Floor, but to me, Tarja will always be my first love. I found Nightwish through this very song and have followed them for a decade now. The way you feel you're cheating on Floor, is the way I feel watching new Nightwish. I just can't explain it. Either way, it's still incredible music.

Welcome to the club. I knew NW for a long time but only got hooked after Floor joined. Tarja was too operatic for me first, but now I'm fully sold on her as much as I'm on Floor. Both ladies are amazing singers!

Just a Nightwish fan here, I'm not a singer fanboy, but I appreciate great vocals. Some people's obsession with Floor get's a little scary IMO, and won't allow them to enjoy Nightwish with anyone else, even though it's all amazing. More Tarja stuff to look at:

Tarja Turunen was the original Nightwish vocalist for almost a decade, defining a big part of their sound with her classically infused vocal techniques which combined perfectly with Nightwish's inicial power metal and later symphonic metal sound, and also with Marco's vocals, as you noticed it was a perfect match in every way!
The great thing is that Tarja has been having an amazing solo career in the last 15 years... Her voice is really high (her last note on this one is an Eb6), but also a full and really powerfull sound (and in her career she always keeps on experimenting new things with her vocals, including a haunting dark and lower register she can belt out), plus having this theatrical presence on stage... I'm really glad you liked it!

Btw - towards the end you were unconsciously describing why Nightwish with Tarja was so unique, everything from the style, voice, presence, clothes. Nightwish + Floor is world class, but Nightwish + Tarja was just unique in an otherwordly way. One that broke boundaries, norms and stereotypes which ushered a new era for women in metal.
Add to the fact that Tarja had a pretty bad flu. Wasn't even sure if she could perform this consert.
Multiple outfit changes due to perspiration, giving 10000% still in each and every song. And still makes it look so easy.
When this dvd was released i listened it 137 times in 3 months. It never get old

If you want more Tarja, Slaying the Dreamer same concert is an absolutely crazy song.
Nobody has hated to Tarja, she is amazing and this version is better for her, the performance is really epic and nostalgic about that last show of this line up. In fact she always has been stylish and all the fans we love that behavior of her. Tarja is and will be an undeniable influence on all metal frontwomen and a perfect perfomancer as vocals. You have to check Slaying the Dreamer or Creek Mary’s Blood of the same concert, and Die Alive or Supremacy for her single career. Greetings 🤘🏻

You should try something their first DVD "From Wishes to Eternity". It's from 2000 so they are soooo young and yet so so good! Maybe "Swanheart" since it showcases lyrical sides of Tarja's voice. Absolutely beautiful song and so underrated in reaction communities.

The nuts thing about this particular concert, is that all the band members know Tarja is getting fired, except her. She is given the infamous open letter afterwards and told to open it the next day.

Hate Tarja? Nobody with ears for a good music! She is a professional opera singer. Tarja is another Queen. The mother of Nightwish. Floor respect her so much. I think the hate for Tarja stems mostly from how she treated the rest of the band, and not from her actual singing. Like, for example, at one point she wanted to cancel a sold-out Nightwish show so that she could rehearse for an upcoming solo performance. The rest of the band had to tell her she couldn't do that. That's just no way to treat your fellow band members, and *certainly* no way to treat the fans who paid for the tickets, made time in their schedules and had been anticipating the concert for weeks.
Yes she was a good singer (though lacking in the variety of techniques available to her compared to Floor), but it was really stuff like that which made fans feel betrayed when they found out. They felt as if they'd been devoted to the band for all these years, and it turns out that she'd never really cared all that much, even going so far as to tell Tuomas that she never saw herself as anything more than a temporary or "guest" singer--someone who would record with them and play concerts with them, but not someone who was a full member of the band.

Tarja never wanted to cancel that show that you mentioned - she was informed during the SAME day that a concert - she had no idea about, was happening because the guys never cared to tell her. Manipulating her, and disrespecting her right as a full-time member and her integrity. They once even contracted a whole tour behind her back without letting her view the terms and conditions. She had to find out from fans greeting her on the street "see you in 2 months". That is how she was treated.
Now, had this been Floor, she would have sued the guys and kicked them in the balls, Tarja however, bit her tongue and compromised even when she shouldn't, all just to soothe the ego of Tuomas and as respect for their long since child-hood friendship. What did he do?
Tarja does this so well, but MARKO Is totally stealing the show (actually he often does that with Floor aswell imo. I love Marko 😍) Please do High Hopes with Nightwish or Tides with Tarot, if you want more of Marko 🙏
Tarja was one of the founding members and this was her last night with the band.... 2 years later she game with her own band and started to Tour.... Couple of tip... Supremacy from Woodstock 2016.... Swanheart from her tour Beauty and Beat from 2013.... it's her version of a NightWish song....

Great reaction as always, very interesting that you picked out the fact that Tarja seems to stick out, I think was very much her personality, while I started listening to Nightwish back when she was still in the band and she will always be intrinsic to the fabric of what Nightwish is, she was already at the point this was recorded looking to start her solo career and it was after that very concert that the other members of Nightwish wrote to her saying it was time to part ways...
I can really recommend watching the song Wishmaster from this same concert for more Tarja 🤟
It's one of those instances in life when it's perfectly acceptable to have two loves... No problem, one can blow you away with powerful and ridiculously stable belts, while the other can melt your brain with fantastic classical singing. Both of them are amazing.

There are certain songs where Tarja is untouchable. This is one of them. I'd also say the same for "Slaying the Dreamer", "The Siren", and "Sleeping Sun", from the same concert.
For me, Slaying the Dreamer is much better with Floor. Much better. About the others, I'm with you. Specially Sleeping Sun.
@@godcaoss I'm going to have to agree to disagree on this one. When it comes to the operatic style, Tarja sounds so much better in this song. Floor absolutely kills everyone when she's in the rock style belting mode, but this song isn't based on that style. But...this is art, after all, and certain things appeal to each of us differently, so I try to enjoy what I like, and pass on the stuff I don't. Or at least I try to see the artistic value in everything, if possible.
With tarja, Nightwish was the best band ever. They were something so original. Then, they became a mainstream band that sounds better than other bands of course, but the magic of the first albums is something i will Always miss.
For next Tarja as per your request, I'd recommend Wishmaster from the same concert/dvd.

there is no cheating. tarja is an awesome tallent, and she is the one who began the nightwish journey. floor is just the one who will take them into the next century -and beyond. this version of this song is my all-time FAVORITE version of this song, hands down, altho lindsey sterling's version is the best instrumental, and if you haven't heard it, i very highly recommend it. thanks for doing this. :)

You really should listen to the whole "From wishes to eternity" concert, thats what i have watched / listened sooo much times from its release in 2000.
Oh and a good one to start with as reaction for me would be "Walking in the air" since that is a song that was never performed with Floor i think. Its also a cover version of a christmas song from somebody else, but still a great ballad on "Sleeping Sun" level for me.

this is my favorite version of The Phantom of the opera, and it's like 20% because of Tarja's singing, 30% because of Tuomas's arrangement and 50% because of Marco... he is PHENOMENAL in this piece...

I truely believe that every vocalist of Nightwish had her place and time in the Band. I would never call down any of the 3, each of them has their strenghts and weaknesses and did leave a deep impact - in regards of their performances- they made and make a big portion of what we know to be that amazing Band called Nightwish 🥰

I feel like im cheating on Tarja when i listen to Floor! After following tne band in 2004 so im used to Tarja voice. This was her last concert with NW and she didnt know it. I would recommend Wish Master and Walking in the air!!!! Gethsemene. Oooo I know... Elvenpath!!! With her accent its precious and wrong for anyone else to sing it. And nemo watch the video on Nemo!!! Tarja is also one of the founding members. Tuomas, Jukka, Emppu Tarja!! They started the band. I actually begged NW to carry on with just Marco on myspace!! But then they replaced Tarja with annette olzon. To me she sounds like a little girl sing as she runs her nails down a chalkboard!!! It was devastating!!! When I heard that they had hired Floor I was estatic because I knew her from a band After Forever. Someone tried to correct me on the name but I said that I still call my son-in-laws durwood. That from the show Bewitched from the '70's!!!! She didnt like her daughters mortal husband so she called him durwood hahaha!!! Ok ive gone somewhere weird sorry 😁 But when Floor joined NW i was happy because I got NW back!!!! And I did listen to annette sing it just got too hard.

It's alright to love both of them, my friend. Those of us that are fans of the band, and not just one of the singers, know this. Floor isn't a replacement for Tarja because she can never be replaced, she is only a continuation of the story. If you react to Anette's songs you will see that she was also necessary for the evolution of the band.

Now that you heard Tarja, you should react to her solo songs too. Why not try these songs "Until My Last Breath" and "Dead Promises".
You should absolutely check out Tarja’s solo work. She’s outstanding. I think there are instances that fans get so tied up with the whole “who is the better vocalist” that there is never any mention of what she has accomplished outside of Nighwish. If you want to look at her solo work, I recommend “Demons In You” ft Alissa White Gluz. It’s a banger. But if you’re wanting some more Tarja era Nightwish, I highly recommend Nemo. It might be my favorite song by Nighwish.

I don't know if this has been said, but the band wasn't going to be anything like this.
It's been said in many interviews that they were planning on being a "Finnish folk band" and when they set out to listen to Tarja, singing in her little church choir, that Toumas decided that they were to change their project.
Her voice projecting, her range, the power in those vocal chords have him a whole new perspective on how they should show their music to the world.
We have to thank Tarja for that, we have to thank Anette for keeping it together when Tarja was fired and we truly have to thank for for what she's been doing thereafter.

This is one of two standout performances for me from this final concert to feature Tarja.....I thought she was amazing in this one and also Marko for me too.......you HAVE to see him do High Hopes from the same concert! I think we can all appreciate the 3 Nightwish singers for their brilliant contributions to the experience. Love watching your reactions...thanks.

You love this one....and so do I but I never feel like I am cheating on Floor because Tarja was Nightwish at this point in time. But Joey has to let you listen to Ave Maria Marko and Floor live at Hartwell...for their Christmas thingy they do. Love your reactions to this band. thanks again.
