Or a double reaction, the studio version with Tuomas singing. Although Beauty and the Beast wasn't his best. The Carpenter, though, I really liked Tuomas's vocals on that.
You really NEED to listen to Nightwish doing their cover of Pink Floyds High Hopes, it was at the same performance as this one, and was sung whilst Tarja was doing a wardrobe change. Marco and the band Slay it!

Try Marco live with the band Delain-Nothing Left, or The Gathering same concert I believe you will enjoy it and he doesn’t have a guitar ! Tarja voice brought this old metal head to Nightwish but the lyrics & arrangements of Tuomas & the band’s musicality made me join the Nightwish Army. Great job as always!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

All your points are very relevant. Marko is brilliant, Tarja is brilliant but together they are greater than the sum of their parts. One without the other would not have been nearly as good. To me, that is what makes this performance special and the best.
Marko is a charmer man. Even when he’s singing with Floor, he can steal the show. The band I think he’s most known for pre-Nightwish is Tarot. I think you can find some of their EARLY (like mid 1980s early) stuff floating around. Most recently he released a solo album called Pyres of a Black Heart. It’s a great album. Stones is a great driving rock song. Voice My Father destroys me every time I hear it. I recommend it, but bring a box of tissues.

Marco absolutely MADE this performance for me as well. He's the best Phantom ever, in my opinion. When you see big productions of Phantom, the male lead is always a clear, crisp voice, and I don't think that fits the character. Marco is dark, sinister, and malevolent. EVERYTHING this character should be. That voice would truly have stricken fear into the hearts of the patrons in an opera house.
A sidenote about this video that I think you will find very interesting...... The facial expression and "oh well" posture with her hands that Tarja makes (you display that frame here at exactly 2:13) is actually a mea culpa to the audience. Very, very few people realize this (and it took me 15 years to realize it and then only after someone else pointed it out to me), but Tarja makes a mistake in the lyrics that she realizes a moment too late. She sings, "I am the mask you wear," and Marco answers, "It's me they hear." If you check original versions from the musical, "I am the mask you wear," is the Phantom's line. Tarja accidentally sang Marco's line. But, in a testament to his professionalism, he automatically picks up and covers the flub, without missing a beat, by singing Tarja's line. And it flows seamlessly! Almost no one noticed. Tarja realized it the moment Marco picked up her line and gives that "ooops, oh well" expression in a side glance to the audience. Great professionals!
love your reactions to NIGHTWISH Videos, I started listening to NIGHTWISH in 1999 and still do to me they are the best, and I would like to tell you something about them when Tuomas Holopainen the songwriter made the first albums each song had a story to it, but since the album Dark Passion Play which was very personal to him every album after that is one story that should be listened to from start to end no skipping or shuffling like the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful which was inspired by Dawkins' book and the album Imaginaerum that had so good of a story they made it in to a film and if you really like NIGHTWISH music you should watch that movie as it's made as musical movie based on the Imaginaerum album with almost all of the music is played in it, sorry for the long comment :)

Marko is sublime, try listening to him with his original band Tarot. The track Tides is amazing from the Undead Indeed show. Although I Rule from the same show is awesome if you want Marko's vocals raw and powerful.

Tarot: Undead Indeed 06 "Tides" Marko bass and vocals, his brother Sakari a.k.a Zachary on guitar. The DVD was recorded in Kuopio, Marko's home town.
On another comment a video from 1986 was mentioned. You would not know it's Marko if nobody told you.
Markos solo album "Mustan sydämen rovio"/"Pyre of the Black Heart". So there are both Finnish and English version. "Isäni ääni"/"The Voice of My Father" is a good one. Many non Finnish speakers like the Finnish version better. "Kiviä"/"Stones" is a good one too, heavier.
Then there is the All Hietala Power Trio. Marko bass and vocals, brother Sakari guitar, Marko's son Miro, 18, drums. They played a live stream gig on two consecutive night last summer, ending the night with 30 minutes of Black Sabbath covers, same setlist. It was hot by Finnish standards. A Kuopio Rock Academy event, with up-and-coming bands. Marko gave them his comments. His brother is very active in the KRA. I think the live streams were on 17th and 18th of June. Available on YT.

The 5 studio albums that Nightwish recorded with Tarja have a lot of gothic and power metal influence. This decreased a lot since Anette, the second vocalist. Because of the Gothic influence, this contrast between "Beauty" and "Beast" was common even before Marco joined the band (he joined the fourth album, Century Child). The song "The Pharaoh Sails to Orion" is another excellent song that explores this contrast that you like. There is a very good performance recorded on the dvd "From wishes to eternity".

Gotta start off by saying I enjoy your channel, but I'm wondering when you're going to introduce the mysterious "Joey" to us subscribers? Or is he just made up, like "The Wizard of Oz?" LOL, I like the banter between the two of you anyway, whether he's real or fictitious.
I agree, Tarja has a beautiful, operatic voice that fits the theme of this song (title says it all lol). Check out her version of Nightwish's "Sleeping Sun," another song that I feel demonstrates her vocal style perfectly. In fact, I enjoyed Tarja's performance in SS so much so that, to my utter astonishment (since I, amongst the rest of the Army, do worship humbly at the altar of our Goddess Floor), I kinda found I preferred it a little over Floor's version, but please don't tell Floor. This was definitely an exception, no offense to Tarja for whom I have the utmost respect. I just think Floor is a one-of-kind, once-in-a-generation talent, and it's simply not fair to judge anyone else against her.
I wish I had the link, but I've actually seen a Marco video with some band from the 80's singing a classic hair metal song, and he was fantastic! Also, I've seen some of his Tarot work, and the man doesn't just have pipes. Like Floor, the dude can SING, with all the skills and talent that implies, not just perform vocal acrobatics.

Also, are you aware Floor has been putting out song covers for the past two Saturdays? I don't want to spoil them for you, but I would say even for us Floor-lovers, they are astonishingly beautiful and make me have an even greater appreciation for her vocal talent, which I would have thought impossible beforehand. The woman could sing the theme song from the kid's show "Barney the Dinosaur" and I have no doubt I would love it--and I HATE that song!!

You mention "Beauty and the Beast", there's a song from their first CD called "Beauty and the Beast" and it's sung by Tarja and Tuomas (YES, Tuomas did sing a couple of songs if their first album).. The song was later re-recorded for their EP and sung by Tarja and Tony Kakko (lead singer of Sonata Arctica). There's a live version in the "From Wishes to Eternity" DVD (2000). Btw, Marko was not a member of the band at that time.
There's another song with similar name, "Beauty of the Beast", and it's what Ghost Love Score is to Once, an amazing masterpiece of epicness, Nightwish at its best.

Marko: Voice of my father
I noticed Marko starts his final line/breath/slide well before she hits her final note, and is still trailing off when she is finished.
Now, I know she was a bit lacking that night (Heh, lacking, feh, most singers would love to be lacking like that) suffering/recovering from the flu, but man he got some lung and control.
Aside, I really don't particularly care for the album version's ending on this song. This version is epic, though.
