- Tim Curry on Frank N Furter 👄
In 1975, Film Night went behind the scenes at the filming of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, based on Richard O'Brien's cult stage musical.
You can dive into plenty more BBC Archive on our website - www.bbc.co.uk/...
People don't realize that Tim Curry played this character in the theater production for years and years and years before the movie.
Two years, to be precise.
Yeah that performance wasn't born out of thin air. He KILLED it.
All of them did except for Rocky (don’t know his real name) Susan and Barry aka Brad and Janet actually…
That'll explain why he did so well.
IAM a huge fan and I did not know that! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so much
Never realised Tim was so posh. Lol. He was gorgeous.
Lol but that's how almost everyone spoke in 1970's England. It was normal back then 🙃
He still is!!!
Yep, such a babe
I am a female and remember having a crush on him in the movie.
Agreed.
A school friend thought young Tim Curry was " just about the yummiest thing alive"...and because she was crushing so hard she broke up with her jock boyfriend, an 18 year old jerk who thought she should marry him instead of going to college. Though he, of course, was definitely going to college.
She went on to get two degrees and has a great career. Thanks, Tim Curry!
Thats the first I heard of something that couldn've been dangerous ended up actually saving a whole life
That's wonderful
Tim Curry out here saving so many young lives
2 degrees and 9 cats
@@ArcoirisDeZebulonI know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but you seriously need to go see an optician
@@thebeatnumber I bet she loves coming home after a hard day at the office to a bottle of wine and the same Rocky Horror playlist, night after night. Her friends have all settled down now, the social invites have all dried up. Let's order in a chinese and eat our feelings. Thanks, Tim Curry!
I think I've figured out why his character was so mesmerizing. He played his character with such abandon. The character was unabashadly unaware that he was different from the people around him and he seems to revel in his very existence! He definitely was able to capture all of the intricacies of both sexes equally! I loved it!
In the film at least….all the other characters dress and act exactly like him lol.
His character was very aware and mentioned it several times.
Example: (one of many)
"Dont get strung out by the way I look, don't judge a book by it's cover"
It helped that the actor was fine af
Interesting perspective
@@travisvanalst4698 , not really...He was the the supreme ruler of the whole gang. Tim played the part to a T. But everyone had their own personalities.
He was fantastic in this, so strangely sexy
When your confident it doesn’t matter what a person is wearing. They have an aura about them that will draw people into their orbit. But that’s just my own interpretation anyways.
@@spacejunk2494 no yeah I agree!
@@spacejunk2494 you put my thoughts into words
Yup he is.
Honestly the best description I’ve heard lol😂
He was so good looking
Still is.

Mmmmhm that man was gorgeous!
I'm realize 😳
@@pigster8everyone gets old in the end, its life
NO ONE could've played FrankenFurter better than Tim Curry!!❤
Holy mother that voice...❤
He did the voice for the Hexxus, the smoke/sludge monster in Ferngully. If you haven't seen it, youtube search Ferngully - Toxic Love. Another song by him that i keep on my playlist.
@@Scout_Serra Oh I have seen it. Have loved Curry's voice since I was 16. ❤️
Tim Curry was made to be FrankenFurter...the perfect look, build, moxie, and talent to pull this off...BEAUTIFULLY
The hand gesture comment was so insightful. Not all actors recognize the differences in how to portray the same scene in different formats such as stage drama, stage musical, wide format film, and small format television. His awareness of this so early in his career allowed him to be successful in nearly all of his endeavors at a time when there used to be strict delineations between West Coast vs East Coast, Film vs TV, and NYC stage vs Hollywood. It's great that he has even been able to transition into voice work to stay active in the industry. 🥰
Ikr , think it looks weird when stage drama is used for film.
Bill Hader talking about Oliver reed. LOL

Didn't realize how fine he was back in his prime 😍😍
He looks good in Clue too
@@Clearlyclynn no question. That man was one of the definitions of “Handsome” back then

I Was there at the premiere Roxy 1975 Still gives me a grin. The whole cast was mind blowing. Tim nearly slid into our table gave us a wink and didn't miss a beat.
Holy funk that's amazing! 😮❤
One of the most ICONIC movie performances ever! The movie is over 45 years old and people will still be in awe with his role in another 45
In an interview Curry once said he disliked the fact that this was the role he was most remembered for. Frankly when I saw him in other roles if it weren’t for the voice I’d never believe it was him!
Especially the fact that he's not a homosexual.
He acted like Lawrence Oliver.
Oscar material.
I am 64 now and still digesting that movie and its implications.
Like how many people know that fay Wray was the woman in King kongs hand in the 1930 movie
No
I was 9 when my big sister shocked the hell out of my mother by renting this for us. While my mom was having a heart attack and my sister was dying laughing I was falling in love with the movie and Tim Curry. Thanks big sis, for being an absolute smart ass and introducing me to the art of theater. What an absolute work of mastery. Tim, you are fantastic and yes, you were fine as hell!! Cheers!!! If you haven't seen it, watch it you won't regret it. 😉 It's just FUN.
I love your story ♥️ This had me rolling ! I could just see a mom freaking out on the couch watching this 😲 That's freaking hilarious😂
Yup' that was a cool story! T.Y. ❤
Tim is one of the greatest character actors of all time.
Tim Curry is one of the most underrated british actors, but he's probably one of the most versatile talented star...
Tim is a very special man... so talented, eloquent and devilishly funny. RHPS would not be as iconic without him.
I love Tim such a classic dude. He's so adorable
What an absolutely beautiful man. With or without make-up. Never will there be another
Long time Tim Curry fan here!!! He is an extremely talented actor, he's fantastic at every role he plays!
I agree. He's one of the most charismatic actors I have ever seen. Just draws you in. To me the only others remotely like this is Willem Dafoe
He was the best part of the Barbie and the Nutcracker movie.
The man played this part with such genius he should be knighted.
He is so Iconic for that role ❤
Ooo I love how he speaks when he's not acting. Like a dove. The medical issues he's endured over the years is heartbreaking. Such a talented actor and brilliant man, and he's so good to his fans.
Tim Curry is a very beautiful man & he rocked the part he played & oh boy did he own it! 💯👏🔥
I crushed on this man for years & I always will!! He's such a talent/performer & so underrated, he's a gem! His charisma is off the charts!🩷❤️😊
God he is so mesmerizing ❤️❤️❤️
He plays it so freely, so unhingedly, totally without any shame and uneasiness! Having once tried amateur theater, I know how hard is that to achieve even with a tame role, but he nails THIS...!!!
One hell of an actor, talented, sexy, beautiful...
This just proves why I always had a crush on Tim. He was gorgeous 😍
What a beautiful person. Those of you that don't realize it, he's a treasure to our time. ❤❤❤
80s and my friend and me adored this film. Hearing the "Time Warp" always has me doing the moves, wonderul, happy, carefree days.
I love the awareness of how gestires are perceived on stage is so different than on film... That's artistry
Definitely started a cult I've followed rocky horror since I was a kid I'm 54 now and still.taking"a jump to the left" lol
Yesterday there was a gas explosion in the city of Johannesburg. The local taxis' that were parked in a row all "jumped to the left" literally. Had to show my son this song because that's what popped into my mind.
Most of actors were good too
So did you go to the movie theater with "props"? Throw a piece of burnt toast when the movie toasted with champagne?
That was the experience a decade before in theaters. Umbrellas out when the movie started to rain and on and on. It was "interactive." Total blast I'll never forget.
63 here and still dancing the Time Warp every Halloween!
"Great Scot!" (Throws toilet paper.)@@lynnburlingham8160
I can't imagine anyone else playing this part in the movie, he was off the charts ❤️
The influence on drag on both the stage musical and the movie is unavoidable. You can't have Rocky Horror without drag.
That's not Drag, Frank is a transvestite. The difference is that a transvestite is doing it as a kink and makes no effort to present female. For Drag, it's more like playing a character.
@@Richterdgfabsolutely right. Drag is an art form while transvestism is a kind of human condition. Two very different things.
@@Richterdgf How dare you correct them like that! Words have no meaning!
@@Richterdgf drag is playing with gender expression for fun and entertainment. The word transvestite was first of all used because it made for a catchy witty lyric, but also it had a more general ambiguous meaning in the 70s, when there weren’t as many granular terms with set in stone specific meanings to describe queer identity and behaviour, bc the level of homophobia meant queer culture was more underground- “transvestite” was understood as applicable for a LOT of kinds of “not conforming to the gender that society says you should be”, from crossdressing kink, to drag performance, to even some people who might identify as transgender today (note, there’s more nuance on that point that I won’t get into right now for the sake of not writing a whole damn essay in this comment)
And anyway all of these things are intertwined (I say this as a genderqueer person with an interest in queer history), it’s both pointless and unhelpful to try to draw these neat little lines around it. The camp aesthetic of Rocky Horror and of Frank IS very drag influenced so OP is correct you’re just splitting hairs to look for an argument
And If you look even further back, you can see the influence of both cabaret and classic hollywood on the state of drag in 1974, both shown very clearly in the film
Such a beautiful man 😍, we love you Tim Curry 💕
48 years ago....still one of my favorite movies
Simply put, he killed it
Amazing iconic film, incredible cast, lasting forever that movie will never go out of style
He uses his voice perfectly. Every one else would sound terribly overplaying but for him its perfect.
Hes so beautiful i cant even describe it…
And he created one of the most enigmatic and amazing performances on film. The movie is here to stay. It never gets old.
Well just his demeanor shows that he was the first of his kind. Love you Tim
Grew up in the 80s watching midnight showings with my friends and just took my 17 year old to a stage production of it, she loved it! And in the "don't say gay" state! Thanks Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and cast for such a multi generational treasure!
I love his passion behind acting. This was a great movie that will never get old
I can’t even imagine anyone else playing his role in Rocky. He was born to play that role. Simply wonderful.
This is an absolute classic!!! He was amazing in this role.
The only man who takes my breath away.
I absolutely loved loved this musical! I watched it at 13years old New Year’s Eve , got to drink my first sip of champagne 🥂 with my mom!!!!
He made a brilliant transition to film, didn't he? What an amazing and versatile actor. Hos comedic timing paired with his preternatural affinity for portraying villainy.
Absolutely fantastic and a true one of a kind! Love him!
😮Still my favorite movie.
He played thepart very well.
And he sings great too .😊
Tim is one of the greatest. Love this man. Think of him often, always wishing him well.
Best Tim Curry film ever. Best actor my daughter and I have watched this film about 1 million times. Never gets old. Love you ❤❤
The ONE the ONLY......Tim is very dear to millions of us. ❤❤❤
Como no amar a Tim Curry 😍
Beautiful man.
One of the greatest of all time. 💖
This movie led me to drink, drugs, and promiscuity and I will never be more grateful for anything in my life.
😅😅😅❤❤❤
😘
RECKLESS ABANDON MY MAN 😂
And boy did you play it💋
Hard to believe it's been almost 50 years of being thrilled chilled and fulfilled.
WHAT A BEAUTY HE WAS❤
Omg! How young!! I remember going to the participation movies back in 75.. damn I’m getting old
Great actor and performer
He's obviously a very bright very fascinating guy and it was an amazing job he did.
It was great, I've seen it several times, and will watch it again if I get the chance. He was great.
The fact a movie like this was even able to release when it did is phenomenal. Sometimes while the world may seem bad and judging others for being different, it's good to remember things like this are still allowed to happen all the time
Gosh, reminiscing about the day when people could put a proper sentence together. He is brilliant.
what in the boomer nonsense is this? sure, just because there are some popular, vapid people who have large followings (ie the Kardashians and Jenners) doesn't mean that there are no people in the entertainment industry who are not well spoken and thoughtful.
So handsome and not only an incredible talent but a treasure to the entertainment industry. I would have loved to see him on stage! ❤
I miss Tim Curry, he was such an amazing actor and genuinely a great person!
Wdym, he's alive
Hes not dead
@@kayleenkrolikowski7442 Can't you miss somebody because they've retired?

So underrated yet so unbelievably talented!
He Was Suave Debonair & Truly Is Frankenfurter. 🎉❤
The wooden bowl literally never ceases to send shivers down my spine
Why are half the people in the comments talking like he’s dead
Preparing for the inevitable.
Tim Curry ❤ such a wonderful talented man ! Definitely still under recognized, even though many do... still not enough hailing over the years of his quality & memorizing acting
Love him! Very naturally sexy handsome man! Very funny 2
I graduated in the Rocky horror, picture show T-shirt and a pair of jeans in 1980. The Rocky horror picture show played every weekend in uptown Minneapolis. It was a blast.
he is amazing!
No one will ever be able to reprise this character and do it better. At best, people will only be trying to copy it or copy parts of it. Tim Curry is a phenominally talented and diverse character actor. No matter how many times one watches his work (concierge in Home Alone, Long John Silver, Dr. Frank, etc.,) it's always fresh and vibrant. Amazing performer!!
❤✨️🏆✨️❤
he's so lovely
It's criminal that Tim wasn't awarded every possible award for this tour de force.
God bless this man
I did not know he played the character before the movie. He's such an interesting person. 💜
This clip from Film Night was originally broadcast on 26 July 1975. Full video here: ruclips.net/video/5yZcJwfJCKU/видео.html
Tim Curry is by far my favorite actor, and this movie is such a huge reason for that!
Just so everyone is aware, many cast and crew abandoned this film upon release and failure, but Curry did not. Curry has always had pride and love for this film. ❤
Tim Curry most gorgeous of all time tie with Jamie Bower Campbell
My first Tim Curry experience was Dr. Frank-N-Furter, and I fell in LOVE.
The legend
I love that he's basically explaining how overacting is great for the stage but not in front of the camera and that he had to taylor his performance accordingly. Such a great actor both on stage and on screen.
Not an incredible fan of the movie, but he did a magnificent job and has a great voice! Truly he was born for that role. Who knew how this movie would become insanely relative in 2022?
I think bc it was seen as relatively "taboo" at the time and since ppl today are more accepting and more ppl just like the "strange and unusual" (like American Horror Story as an example) it has gotten more relevancy
Incredible Actor! So handsome.
hes so handsome☺️
Charisma and charm so thick you can feel it through the screen. He wasnt gorgeous like say Paul Newman. But he has a certain something that draws you in, something thats very unique you cannot look like or buy or act like. A magnet that pulls you in whether you like it or not !❤
The behind the scenes, were the actual takes in the movie! Awesome.
I saw him perform this live. He was magnificent.
I loved his hair & ability to run in heels! Much respect. Better looking transvestite than most!😆
Beautiful actor. Great piece❤️. We didn't get much like this in the States, unless it was PBS. They would sometimes give us a little BBC. Special occasions, Saturday night things. Little Python,Hill, usually comedy now I think about it. Would've been extremely rare to see something special like this. Great little piece, thanks.❤️
er sieht aus wie Freddie Mercury
Marvelous man. Fabulous production.
He was so incredibly sexy in that movie!
Tim Curry was the epitome of mystique and sophistication in both Dr. Frank-N-Furter and Darkness.
He's just one of a kind and you just can't replicate that.🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤👌🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
When I look at him all I can see is It the Clown. Still terrifies me
Pennywise the clown.
I could totally see Frank asking Brad and Janet if they'd want a balloon.
