MAKASSAR, INDONESIA - Along with being a meat and beef ribs paradise, Makassar is known around Indonesia for its seafood. Today we’re going on an ultimate Indonesian seafood tour in Makassar, from the market to the best seafood restaurant in town.
Lelong Paotere (maps.app.goo.gl/qB75hXhk4Mx9S...) - If you love seafood markets, this is about as good as it gets. The days fresh catch is sprawled throughout the market and you’ll find exotic seafood of all kinds. This is a perfect way to start an Indonesian seafood tour.
Warung Pangkep (maps.app.goo.gl/3MgLzkeekN9J8...) - To taste the fresh seafood we headed to a local restaurant, that among with other things is well known for their ikan bolu bakar, or grilled monkfish - a delicacy.
Kepala Ikan Mappanyuki (maps.app.goo.gl/936CDJ2wyP9M6...) - Next up I went to a legendary restaurant that’s known for their Kepala Ikan - fish head soup.
Sari Laut Mbak Atun (maps.app.goo.gl/8C1vGsJB4cGoR...) - Finally, I went to eat the best seafood in Makassar, maybe one of the best seafood restaurants in Indonesia! From prawns with stink beans to many varieties of grilled fish with sambal, and black ink squid, this is a seafood paradise.
    Thanks to
Ficky - Kuliner Jajanan Makassar ( / nganre_rong ) for bringing me here and setting it up.
Makassar is an amazing city for food lovers, and when you visit don’t miss the incredible variety of seafood.

Shout out to kudu kudu fish, tuna jaw, palubasa, kapurung, milk fish, sup saudara, coto, mie titi.
Even their freshwater fish are unbelievable, once i go to bili bili near “bili bili dam”, and OMG their “mujair” was crispy and soft.

6:55 Micah picked on the ᨍᨘᨀᨘᨈᨘᨊᨘ _Juku’ Tunu_ (grilled fish) before you did? Great that he doesn’t seem to be picky with his food 👍
14:37 I hope you managed to try other ways of preparing seafood other than grilling, aside from ᨄᨒᨘᨆᨑ _Pallu Mara_ (turmeric soup) that you had (it’s not actually fish head curry) there’s also ᨄᨒᨘᨀᨌᨗ _Pallu Kacci_ (sour soup) and ᨊᨕᨘᨅᨒᨛᨅᨚᨒᨘ _Nasu Bale Bolu_ (milkfish in yellow soup).
27:17 The thing with Mbak Atun’s place is that they cook their dishes the Javanese way. Nothing wrong with that, considering you also had _Pallu Konro_ when you were in Java as well. Just that it was probably the kind of shrimp paste and sweet-forward flavors you’re already familiar with. Even _Es Teler_ is from Java. There are desserts that are uniquely South Sulawesi so it’d be a shame to not try them. I’m also sorry if she was overly intrusive with you 🙏
Makassarese is only one of the major ethnic groups in South Sulawesi. Did you also manage to try other local food other than Makassarese cuisine? Maybe some Bugis dishes like _Nasu Palekko_ (hot and sour duck) or _Nasu Manu Likkua_ (galangal chicken); or Torajan dishes like _Pa’piong Bai_ (pork in bamboo), _Pantollo Pamarrasan_ (pangium pork), etc.
ᨀᨘᨑ ᨔᨘᨆᨂᨛ _Kurru Sumange_ (thank you) for visiting Makassar!

And for MORE DETAILED CONTEXT, Indonesia here, located in CORAL TRIANGLE. the best diverse spot for marine life on earth.
Malaysia(borneo part), Philippines(southern part) too. But Indonesia got it the most.
So yeah, when it's seafood, actually it's not about Japan or Korea. It's about Indonesia 😅.
Japanese n Koreans just having some weird ways to make their seafood dish. Raw fish dish thingy. And also they're cleaner than indonesian restaurants & fish markets.
But when we talk about the variations and the quality of the dish, it's Indonesia the best
And glad that mark here open to eating organs. Man.. West people be like.. They feel disgusted by organs😅. They feel disgusted, BECAUSE they cant make a good food out of it. Not enough spices, sesonings. They tend to cook their dish close to the natural taste. With little to none spices😅
But yeah, some organs are indeed, disgusting by default. Eveb after you seasoned it. Like eyes, brain..

This is such a biased point of view. Just because you do not agree with another nation’s culture, you do not have the right to call it “weird”.
They eat it raw because they honor and preserve the natural sources of what’s provided. Just because they don’t contain spices, you pass them off negatively. Food is for everyone. It doesn’t matter if it’s Indonesian, Japanese or Western, food is for the world. What you can find in Indonesia may not necessarily be found in Japan, and likewise what you cannot find in Indonesia, can be found there.
Just because your preferences are different - It doesn’t make it better. This is why Mark’s channel is great. We expose ourselves to his videos and what’s given to us on this Earth and he sets himself out in search of it for our knowledge and curiosity. You may love your country’s cuisine but do not disrespect or dismiss another country’s based on food preferences.

The easy way to check if the fish are fresh or not is by looking at the fish eyes. If it clears just like how normal ileges would look it fresh, but if it's foggy/got like white clouds in the eyes it's definetly not fresh catch on the day.
