Chanthaburi (จันทบุรี), Thailand and the entire eastern coast of Thailand are known for incredible seafood, and I was especially excited for this day, to meet Uncle Tom (ป้าหลุยลุงทอม), the Oyster King of Thailand!
Ban Ta Chaelab Pier (ท่าเรือบ้านท่าแฉลบ) - From Chanthaburi town, we drove to the pier to meet up with Uncle Tom who would pick us up in his boat. Uncle Tom is an amazing man, friendly and care, and he knows his seafood.
First, we took the boat to Uncle Tom’s oyster plot in the brackish open waters of the bay. He pulled out giant strands of oysters soaking in the salty water. It was pretty cool to see.
Then we headed over to Uncle Tom’s floating raft restaurant where his wife was already busy preparing a huge Thai seafood meal. She cooked half a dozen dishes, including the massive oysters. The food was awesome, the setting was perfect. This was one of the best experiences I had in Chanthaburi, Thailand!

Old Thai folks are always so loving and caring towards kids, even when it's not their own.. Towards the end, the uncle said "Do good in school okay son, and grow up well". :)

I remember watching this video as soon as it came out. Then I left for Asia to visit home in early july and did a trip to Thailand and had raw oysters and i remembered this video and put all the toppings on top and it was MARVELOUS

Mark, I am always amazed at the places that you go and all the great food you feast on but the best thing about you is your reaction and appreciation of everything these great countries you visit have to offer. You're so genuine and sincere and that is so refreshing to see in this world we live in today. I am married to a lovely Vietnamese lady and we visit Vietnam every year and we do a little feasting of our own. Southeast Asia has such a variety of food. Thank you for this excellent video and I hope you keep doing what you and your wife do so well and that is to make thoroughly informative and entertaining videos.

This is the reason, it is unique, it never looks like a restaurant bur more like a home cooked place, but I believe that they must be charging for all the food and boat tour. May be a new concept or a new restaurant in making.

You should come to Denmark, you can eat as many as you want for free haha. The seas are clean and oysters fresh. Picking oysters in the west coast of Denmark is as easy as picking apples. I've made a short silly documentary about this :)
Oh wow...... what a Paradise.... Thailand has it all....... Mark you presented again an amazing Food-Video.... everything seems so peaceful and happy...... and the colorful fresh prepared seefood..... someone can feel the taste on his tongue seeing you eating...... I just want to let you know how I enjoyed the Video.
The floating bamboo restaurant is really like being a king in a small island and having all natural wonders from heaven with the family. The crab is really a kickback dish slowing taking the meat out and enjoy it all on the water with sea breeze.
I appreciate the way Mark Wiens really enjoys his food - not wasting one morsel of food. A true Foodie!

Hi Mark. Hi from Australia. I have been following your travels, especially your tips to Japan and Sri Lanka which I found fascinating. I wish I have been with you on this trip to Thailand as I am a seafood tragic and could not help salivating watching you hopping into that wonderful food. I did try the crab curries in Sri Lanka back in 1960 when it was known as Ceylon. My dad was stationed there for a couple of years and boy; were those crab and prawn curries pure paradise. Love your blogs mate. Keep up the great work.
