- AA gaming has long been dormant thanks in part to the demise of Midway & THQ in the early 2010's . Flash forward to 2023 and we have a new contender in the AA space. SCARS ABOVE. Developed by mad head games and published by Prime Matter, Scars Above released on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox series and PC on the 28th February 2023.
After spending 9 hours with the game and earning a platinum trophy for my efforts this review I'm going to break down what works, what doesn't and ultimately if its worth your time in such a stacked 2023.

After running a business, hitting the gym, and raising children... I don't know that I'm disappointed to hear that a game has difficulty options. Sometimes I want a game to be a challenge, sometimes I feel like a relaxing play time.
I understand that, its hard finding time and sometimes you don't want to hit your head into brick wall over and over again

The return of AA gaming??? Dude, AA gaming is bigger now than its ever been
It's no way near the prominence it was back in ps2-ps3 but it's getting there! The death of midway and similar studios/publishers put a hard stop for a long time

Looks good man, I really enjoyed the review. I'll definitely have to give it a go and check out hard mode. Looks like my kinda game and I'm glad Hellblade started a AA Renaissance in 2017 that jas led to so many really cool games. Evil West, plague Tale innocence, and High on life just to name a few have been standouts for me.
AA is a blast, I think you'll really appreciate what this game does
Besides the first hellblade, those are all AAA games, and AA games were around long before hellblade 1
@mathewhosier9739 All of the games I mentioned are not AAA games, and no shit they were around before Hellblade 😅.
Good review. I picked up the game being very curious how it played & getting Returnal vibes from it. It definitely doesn't play like Returnal but the mechanics are really solid with fun combat & an actual pretty compelling story. Despite the sometimes budget feel primarily due to some of the character models & lip syncing I have to say the game was a blast to play. Gonna be a sleeper hit gem. 👍

I like the aesthetic but the combat and gameplay look pretty undercooked. Maybe I'll wait for a big sale.

Bargain
I purchased this game 1 week ago and it ran fien, then just stopped lauching. I reloaded gpu drivers and re-installed the game; no help. Do not buy this game. Last year it had the same issue.
Could it be something your end rather than the game? I'm a console guy so I don't know what you could do 🤷♂️
