This game's skeleton looks a lot like remnant from the ashes. But it clearly has its own identity. If it's ever on sale or comes to gamepass, i'll definitely buy it.
fair, I can very much see where you're coming from
tho as somebody who invested some 200 hours (thanks steam for counting for me) I can see a few clear differences as well
for one, Remnant has an art style, and I wouldn't ever dare to fault a studios first game for this but Scars looks very ... "trying to look realistic but don't have the team to make realistic happen" and I hope they embrace this flaw and try to develop a more interesting art direction with later titles
and Remnant embraces the whole idea that the main gameplay loop *is* the game and builds around it, "finishing" the skill tree takes some 100+ hours, upgrading everything to max even longer, you can run individual levels or the whole game over and over, in a very well working drop in drop out co-op system if you choose so
Scars looks like a more story focused single play experience (finishing all the perks in ng, puzzle content that would get very annoying to repeat in cycles, no mention of a cycle system or co-op - those are what I base this guess on) but I may very well be wrong about that since it's guesswork after a 9 minute video I watched
@@JinFreeks yes. I have finished remnant. Like 100%. Max level, fully upgraded all weapons and armor, i have every ring, trinket, and weapon mod. I love that game. Just waiting for the sequel
@@grantcole8898 Good for you. Happy you like it as much as I do. Not sure why that statement starts with a "Yes." but I'm not questioning it. (Aside from me ... right now ... question i n g it ? - Don't mind me)
@JinFreeks it started with yes because your original comment stated what my original comment stated, but with way more words, while also assuming my ignorance of remnant.
@@grantcole8898 Fair enough, tho I didn't assume anything, I just like to talk about Renmant 'cause I think it's neat.
Looks fun, nice to see middle shelf games still have a place despite so many major publishers insistence that they don’t.
Hi ur videos are gud please complete real life with only fire bombs (not a game)
I second this
I third this
Can you get hired in a interview with firebombs only?
Great idea
real life is the hardest normally without restrictions.
Lemon is always sharing games that I want to try but that are on wishlist 😭👏👏
Could you say they're in... the backlog?
"Gas grenade fire laser combo" well, there's your challenge run
A voice actor I follow landed a role in this! And this review definitely caught my interest. Thank you for the great video.
lemon actually started to do the backlogs instead of [insert fire bomb academy joke here] ? Neat
It's an ok game. I 100% it in about 6-8 hours of actual game time, that included 1st playthrough on hard then having to replay on easy because 2 of the scanning trophies didn't unlock even after scanning everything.
The biggest issue I had aside from that is the pacing of the weapon unlocks. You get 3 of the weapons decently early on, but by the time i got 4th weapon and alt fire modes for certain weapons it felt like there wasn't much time left in the game to actually play around with them and then I just ended up use the default firing modes because they were better in most cases.
The healing item reminded me how in Spacelords a character has an emote where he drinks from a flask. The flask is actually a magazine of the weapon
"Cargo space ?"
"No sir, car go road"
It's nice to see Lemon getting sponsored more often.
I like the idea of being able to combo weapons/effects. A lot of games try that with varying success but a game that does it well is just gold.
I've picked this up recently, and I really like it. It's not my favorite game of all time or anything, but it's a solid experience, and I've enjoyed my time.
Flammable gas grenades you say, hmm... *firebomb run intensifies*
I wish your non-challenge run videos get more love, cuz they absolutely deserve to.
Surprised to hear you compliment the set dressing for the various levels/areas, because to me everything just looks damn gray.
I just finished the game with my first PS Platinum Trophy ever. I really liked the experience. The story is nothing big and nothing new but it´s well made and enjoyable.
A lot of ideas from the beginning of the game vanish later almost completely but the game is short enough,. I finished the game in almost 8 to 9 hours. At the end I had eleven points over to spend in my fully upgraded ability tree. All in all a mediocre but enjoyable game. Worth a play. Thanks for giving it a review.
A lot of the complaints around the 5 minute mark looks kind of like developer oversight due to crunch time before release. I wouldn't say I'm surprised by that if it is the case. The graphics thing doesn't necessarily bother me, because I don't think high resolution is anywhere near as important as the art style is. Unfortunately, this game kind of looks a little less detailed than it wanted to be.
I saw flammable grenades, and am now requesting a run with them
Did someone say grenades?! I'm just kidding, your challenge run list is already too big.
Also, I'm sold!
This seems like a game that actually would fit into your type of challange videos, the various options and choices/self restrictions avaible :D
maybe this review here is too cement it as a non option for challange videos but I would watch them if you made them
I can't wait for the inevitable fire bomb only run
Honestly firearms would be even better in space because the lack of air resistance meaning you could be pushing projectile speed beyond the barrier around five thousand feet per second for small arms.
It gets even funnier because the actual injury caused by this would be a basically a clean hole that all you would need to do it clog it with quick-clot(you can do this now but you will still be in danger) and you would be fine.
The only tricky bit for GUNS IN SPAAACE is that the propellant requirements get a bit more exotic since we generally rely on the fact that we have oxygen in the atmosphere for our gunpowder and stuff.
@@thaddeusgenhelm8979 hypothetically, you could use low grade binary to act as a propellant in a solid state instead of gunpowder in crushed powder state of matter. Binary explosive small grade form would be able to function in an environment lack of oxygen, because all it would require is a spark of electrical charge to set off. Use an incredibly small amount and it’s safe you too much and you have no more head.
@@CatTechSupport or you know you could also use railgun mechanics since they are actually a thing
@@markser1000find me one that is the size of a Glock 22 and can fire a projectile the size of 9mm at 1300 feet per second the same amount of times said Glock 22 mag can without needing to recharge.
If you can then I will start thinking rail guns are viable.
@@CatTechSupport Oh sure, I wasn't saying it was impossible, I was just thinking that guns, as we know them, would require some notable adjustments to function at all given the change of environment.
Oh wow this looks cool! Thanks lemon!
I'm glad Lemon is back.
This game is basically Remnant from the Ashes, but in space
I think I'd enjoy this more than Remnant. The variety of puzzles and pacing seems much more balanced. Weapon and gadget variety with an actual need to figure out enemies is welcome too
Yo, love the videos, the hoodie you sold is really good, just got it and I love it already
Don't mind me, boosting the algorythm for non-soulsgames
Just got my firebomb academy hoodie feels great
It has to be asked. Can you beat it with Firebombs?
No, thank you for taking the time to give a clear review of the game. I appreciate that you gave both the likes and dislike while also outlining personal preferences.
Its not really my prefernce for a game but still a good watch.
"Those consoles being PS4 and 5, Xbox and Xbox 1, and PC."
Ah yes, PC, my favorite _console._
You had me at experience cubes.
I did like the video very much.
Thanks a lot lemon.
Calling it at the 2:15 mark. They are on a teraformed earth after being trust into the future by many years.
scars above where every boss looks like the last but a bit bigger
I'm liking review Lemon and liking challenge run Lemon. cheers.ta.
Hey man, we don’t talk about the crawlspace in the basement. Firebombs don’t do horizontal spaces well…
akin to the genre, similar direction as Control or Remnants form the Ashes, grabbing it during sell.
Just realized Scars Above is a very close knock off of The Dig
If guns wouldn't work in space, than I think most of us American's wouldn't be interested.
More reviews are more than welcome
Mhh, sry but the first 3 minute of pitch did fall flat imo for me. It felt like an advertisement in your style, reading a checklist of good things. Maybe splitting the review up into parts would be better, so that positives and negatives can be reached quicker, showing that it isnt an ad but a review of yours?
The real review part later on was good. Oh also I would love a spoiler part for the story... yeah I am used to MandaloreGaming reviews^^
p.S: so... is the firebomb/laser run possible? :P
Good notes, I'll have to keep them in mind next time I do a review.
And no, sadly, the game forces you to utilize all your tools, not just your favorite.
The metahedron looks awfully like a pyramid ship, well except it being blue obviously
I dont mean to sound mean to the devs since this is their first outting but from the outside this just looks like a less fun version of Returnal, I enjoyed Remnant alot & this game seems to pick up all the right parts of that game & put it to great use so ill definitely give it a shot. but im certain that i wasnt the only one mistaking this for a Returnal spin off & im certain way more people are going to write this off cause of ot
Aye I was thinkin about grabbing this game, maybe not for full price now but if it ever goes on sale I’ll gladly buy it
This is Remnant: Fron the ashes, but in space.
Seems like a more single-player-
focused Remnant from the Ashes, and since I don't like multiplayer focused games that's perfect for me.
We going to see some challenge runs for this in the future?
Reminds me of returnal
>exploding a firebomb with a fire laser for massive damage
No wonder you enjoyed yourself!
"Challenge Run" idea:
Can you beat (prolly can, but it's quirky) Dark Souls 1 using only Longsword thrust attacks/damage.
Hey Lemon, so ... Firebombs only when?
Lemon! Once again beseech you
Deaths Gambit
It has a variety of throwable bombs of a fiery kind (and other elements)
I hear ya - it's on the wishlist, patiently waiting for a discount haha
@@TheBacklogs
Would I be allowed to gift you it?
As long as you do it of your own freewill and recognize the fact that I may take months to make content about it, then sure haha
@@TheBacklogs I wouldn't be a student of the firebomb academy if I didn't know patience :D
@@TheBacklogs oh also, how will I send you the game?
so the difficulty curve is backwards? :P
But Lemon, do they fire bomb?
so it's basically Returnal v 2.0? But without roguelite element?
Beep boop. Feed the algorithm. Beep boop.
"flammable gas grenade"
Sooooo firebomb only play through, when?
ill keep an eye on it thanks lemon :D also just replayed Nioh... it has firebombs lemon you know what must be done XD
I wish. But the firebombs are too weak to actually beat bosses on their own. Even with the ninjitsu skills 🫤
@@TheBacklogs ahh sad I was looking forward to your torment. Consumables only might make it but it would be a hell of a slog either way I wanna thank you for makeing me laugh so much.
@@ChaosFox36 TBF, if you want to invest way to much time and effort you can make actually super late game build around fire bombs. *But* ... for one you're investing some 100+ hours here. And then you end up with a build that very much cannot do content on par with what you had to do to get it and if you just want to downscale and have fun than that's basically the only way a firebomb build can clear ng (or way of the samurai) which is a bit of a sad state for firebombs in this game.
Sidenote: Consumables only is basically how Nioh 2 is speedran so don't knock all the stuff you can chuck at your enemies, it's mostly really just the firebombs that aren't that good.
@@JinFreeks *sigh* a sad state of affairs
I wish the review videos performed better, they are always an enjoyable watch
This video was great.
I have a video idea, ds3 pyromancies only
i strongly disagree with 'targeting enemies weakness' line. that first boss was practically unbeatable when i tried to hit its weakness (i had aim assist turned off). first i tried freezing it until i realized that it took 1/4th damage from fire weapons even on its weak point i abandoned it immediately. then i tried hitting it directly, and despite my ability to (in borederlands) hit multi snipe head shot, quick scopes and and do silly gun play wizardry was almost entirely unable to hit the weak point at all (i think mostly due to the delay on the fire weapon... odd design to make the first enemy where that stuff matters the hardest possible combination of traits. even the enemies directly after are easier to exploit than the enemies directly before that boss).
i ended up just freezing it and loading its soft fleshy face with lightning, and won that attempt.
theres an enemy in the later game which has a lot of fire weak points, and even triggering them (which with slow time is still kinda hard to do) it doesnt just die. if you use acid then it just insta dies and you dont even have to aim.
double true of the wood armor enemy, which you can break the armor open and use a scan to find a hidden weak point, except if you use acid its already dead. feels more like exploits than engaging with game mechanics.
7:40 oh and those bats that you one shot with your cryo weapon, their entry specifically says they are resistant to being frozen (so i never even tried that). so just great misinformation there....
This is pretty cool
Run idea: space hulk deathwing with phsyker abilities only
What is it with recent rise in sponsored game reviews?
Edit: Also since this is a sponsored content, I am sure they check it before release so I take "Xbox and Xbox One" as a fact and say I am glad there are companies still making games for the original Xbox.
But the real question is can u beat it with only fire bombs o.o
Fire Grenades?
Lemon, PLEASE, play Remnant from the Ashes. It’s a style of game like this one, and honestly, tied with Code Vein for my top game of 2019. I just know that you’d love it, and the way the game plays, it’s conducive to challenge running! It would make my…something, I dunno what, but definitely something, if you played it on your channel!
I actually HAVE beaten the main campaign. I'm sure you can guess what my weapon of choice was...
@@TheBacklogs ah, you HAVE to play the DLCs, there’s some really good stuff in there. Especially on the hardest difficulty. Paired with the final boss of the game, ah, some of the most fun I had in a videogame, made better by the fact that I had a buddy going through it with me the entire time.
Guns can work in space if the ammunition has oxygen to set off the propellant. Just saying.
yotubue dont promote this on my feed, thank god i like to look insade the channel to se if i dont see something, good video
So no Glock?
That roll looks painful
Game looks fun and stuff, but the question has to be asked:
Can you beat it with firebombs?
Best wishes
Nice video 🦖
So Returnal meets Subnautica done by an indie?
Subnautica is developed by an Indie developer...
@@demonintellect9834 Done by an indie was to capture the cheap looking character models in scars. Not to imply that the other games were AAA.
@@shayneweyker Oh so it was an insult to Scars. I didn't read it that way.
@@demonintellect9834 Not meant to be an insult. Just a TLDW version of lemon's review.
Where daggers only?
2:23 fire bombs?
Why do I think this is something like Returnal
This game looks interesting although a bit unpolished maybe? Idk
Game seems to be taking heavy inspiration from returnal
This game reminds me a lot of Outriders with Anthem's elemental combos. I'm not sure that's a good thing
Anthem actually had mass effects combos. It got carried over since Bioware made ME and Anthem.
@@demonintellect9834 I knew about the mass effect combo's likely being the basis for Anthem's, i think it'd probably the fact there's text that says combo pops up. I dont remember mass effect doing that at least but i do remember stuff like biotic combos and iirc hitting a burning enemy with concussive shot as an example .
@@Ireonox I don't believe the word combo popped up and I'm not sure even damage numbers did, but yeah biotic combos and fire explosions were what ME did. I feel like there was a 3rd because 1 was for armor another for shields and a 3rd was for health.
This reminds me of Remnant but with more puzzles and crafting but clunkier gameplay. I really like Remnant but this game is a step too far into the clunk. If they make a sequel or similar game though I will definitely be on board.
So it's resident evil, Dead Space and dark souls all in one
Maybe a little returnal in terms of aesthetic
the game is 4 hours.....FOUR HOURS
Was that a speedrun? It took me 9ish hours to finish the game on medium.
Neat
Looks like a 6.5, maybe 7 out of 10.
This is just a game version of Oblivion
I think I bought the wrong dead space
Kinda souls like in a way huh
This game looks like depression
Wassup
Seems fairly unfinished tbh. like everything these days!
Yuo*
This is totally just an ad, right?
I really liked the video. Sadly you called PC a console, so now I have to riot
Honestly, the game looked so interesting to me at first.
Then when I was watching other videos when I saw that it was just another generic FPS sci-fi shooter. :/ Like.. c'mon. All sci-fi and shit and all they could think to give us was guns?
Dammm
This looks cool
On the trailer it looked like a cool puzzle game until they showed combat lol. Now you're saying there's a skill tree too? poor game
