- Scars Above is a challenging sci-fi third-person action adventure shooter combining the rewarding feel of purchasing a game from a smaller developer with a compelling and intricate narrative about how aliens want our DNA. Set in a mysterious alien world to explore, Doctor Kate Science must use her gun to shoot the same 3 insect guys again and again and again for about 7-8 hours.

I like how Oboe finds games from alternate universes to play. I've never heard of this game or like 95% of the other games he plays.
"Scars" was quietly hyped on some youtube channels which cover upcoming undie, but it looked so "meh" nobody talked about it.

They seem like the kind of videogames you would see in a videogame where they don't want to put in a real videogame
there was marketing for it it was just minimal, I saw it when it was listed on steam and a couple gaming channels showed the trailer for it, it think I saw one youtube add for it aswell, I was considering getting it but yeah it did not look any good

When the first boss was named "the Alpha" I joked to myself that the final boss would be named "the Omega". Then I was like, no, that's silly, he's just the "alpha" of the pack. Obviously they wouldn't do something like that.

for some reason the design choices in this game felt more understandable when i saw that DB Cooper came out of hiding to direct this game.

Was this game made while DB Cooper was holding the entire studio hostage, forcing them to complete the game before jumping off the roof and parachuting away like 12 feet because it's only a 2 story building? The world may never know, but yes.
We need more games like this that are just simple AA third person shooters. It feels like every game now is either a major budget game or a small pixelated indie title with no in between

I mean, this doesn't look like the worst game. I'd be pretty proud of this result as a small studio with like 3 games to their name. Gameplay is generic, but there's nothing outwardly insulting in it. Decent visuals, decent gameplay. It has better art direction than some games, as it actually looks alien. A real 6 out of 10.
I guess that's just the issue though, right? In a world with so much good content, stuff that is just mediocre isn't really worth anyone's time.
@boba Plenty of indie games craft great experiences on a minimal budget, the problem is that this game isn't doing anything to set itself apart from games that have done the same thing but better.

Honestly, Scars Above is a great game! Okay it's not mind blowing but it has a good story. Combat is fun and for a AA only costing £25, its definitely worth playing. Also on PS, completion rate is 23.3% atm

I played it as well and I found it quite fun
one aspect I liked about the story is that she wasn't randomly special
she was just the first person the the alien lady got
as for the combat I really enjoyed it on the hardest
because it causes you to use the weapons as best as possible
Good take. I enjoyed this game for what it was. Interesting protagonist and story, serviceable combat and a good sense of progression and pacing. PS Naya and her final scene was the best part of the game.

It's funny, I thought before I pressed the play button on this video that I'd never heard of this game before, but within the first few minutes I was having a sense of deja vu like I'd seen someone play this game before already, and realized that I've seen Iron Pineapple play this.
Also as a huge fan of Mass Effect, all the Mass Effect jokes give me life. XD
I am eternally flabbergasted that game developers have such a hard time creating enemy variety.
Every new game you play, you think "Surely these game developers have actually played some games before and know that if you don't introduce a new base model enemy for every hour of story progress the game will feel very dull"... And then year after year we find half a dozen new games that probably cost $100 Million each to make but still have less than five total enemy types.

There's this old pc game called Kohan: immortal sovereigns, and it's sequel Kohan 2 kings of War. It's a rts strategy game similar to like a halo wars or aoe campaigns. I played 2 back in 2004-8 religiously and it seems mostly forgotten
"The omega" looks like the enemies from the lego Space Miners sets. Remember those?
I bought and beat this game essentially on the same day, and as someone who... does NOT like Soulslikes in general, but liked Remnant: From the Ashes, this was a neat enough game that didn't overstay its welcome and had variation enough in enemies to make combat into more or less a puzzle to be solved.
S'pretty okay. I don't regret buying it for $30-$40 or whatever I spent on it.
