I have a mercedes e250 with a sunroof and it appears I haven't been the only one to have a rattle CREAKING noise coming the sunroof when I drive. In this video I'm going to show you how we fixed it in our car and if your sound is similar in your car this solution generally will fix it too.

Thank you so much for this! I’ve contemplated on doing this myself, after a month of getting fed up with the noise; I’ve done it. Took about two hours, but got the job done. The Mercedes’ dealership quoted $1,400 for the fix. I did it with trim removal tools which costed $30. Thank you so much for the detailed info!

Dealers Mech wanted to charge me 890 dollars to just remove the headliner and said he couldn't guarantee me if he could fix. I searched forums and for videos. Found one!!! Yours..... Awesome job, fixed my problem in less than 2 hours. Thanks so much for the video. This is really a common problem for all there panoramic roofs. You Would think that would be apart of one of their service intervals. And the fact that the Mech has no clue of what it might be, that's an issue. Thanks again saved me 880 dollars. 10 dollars for orange loc tite.

Audi Q7 CREAKING: Thank you for this video as I was trying to fix my Audi Q7's creaking sunroof. My issue didn't require to pull it all down. My creaking was caused the friction in between the front & rear panel on the panoramic sun roof. There are 8 screws, 4 on each side on the railing underneath the back panel glass.
MY FIX: I retracted the front panel w/ the button to relieve pressure between the two panels, then loosened the 8 screws using the star shaped bit, then with my hand I pushed up on the back panel (there is a 1/4" or so the panel can move up and down w/ screw adjustments), retightened the screws, and lowered the front panel back into the closed position. This fixed the annoying creaking. THANK YOU!
CONCEPT: You are creating pressure between two points of contacts (front & rear panel of sun roof). If those contacts are loose and flex, they will rub and create noise. Tightening that contact stops the movement and any creaking.
MY RESEARCH: I looked everywhere for a solution - lubing the rubber seal all around the glass (didn't work), installing felt tape on the plastic clasps on the sun roof railing (didn't try to do this one) & lubed the rubber foot that presses down on the wind screen at the front of the sun roof (didn't work), removing the wind screen (didn't try). This was a $525 bill at Audi, which I didn't proceed with.
I wanted to post my experience fixing my creaking in my Audi Q7 here too, since solutions were so limited. Thank you again for posting this. It was crazy to read all the unsolved issues with the sun roof and how many times I read a dealership replaced the sunroof outright.

Sweet video, dude. Thanks very much. I first tried a limited exposure of the torx bolts in that center piece but ended up visualizing too far forward and tightened down another bracket with 10mm bolts. Came back to the project later in the afternoon and did the entire headliner as you showed and did find a loose size 27 torx bolt on the driver side, front. Interesting that a few of the torx bolts were tinged blue which I assume means a prior owner had the same problem and used blue thread locker on ~3 torx bolts. Voila! No rattle after living with it for 2 years!

Wondering if that will work on a sq5 roof that rattles like a bugger…

  • @terrywright841
    @terrywright841 Год назад +1

I'd try this first, much simpler and worked for me - see below:
Had this problem and it progressively got a little worse over time. Quite irritating really but luckily its a really easy fix.
Open sun roof and with warm soapy water clean:
    1) All edges of glass, remove any algae from under edges of glass
    2) Wipe down areas where the glass meets the roof, again remove any algae
    3) Wipe down all rubber seals that meet the glass
    4) allow all to dry
    5) Spay SILICONE LUBRICATING SPRAY onto a dry cloth and wipe all the rubber seals using a liberal amount of spray - really work it into the seals and ensure you do this all the way around
    This resolves the issue completely,
I suggest whilst doing this and you have the SILICONE LUBRICATING SPRAY at hand, that you do the same with all door seals. This improves the seals and quietens the car interior and should lengthen the life of the seals..
