Raymonda was created by Marius Petipa in 1898 for the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg. It contains some of his most spectacular choreography and a magnificent score by Alexander Glazunov, full of spirited rhythms and lilting waltzes - George Balanchine called it ‘some of the finest ballet music we have’. Rudolf Nureyev had an intimate knowledge of Raymonda: he performed in the ballet as a young dancer with the Kirov Theatre and staged a full-length version for The Royal Ballet in 1964, reviving many of the dances from memory.
Nureyev presented an adapted version of Act III at Covent Garden in 1969. Against an opulent setting created by Barry Kay, a Hungarian folkdance opens the wedding celebrations for a ballerina and her cavalier. A lively male pas de quatre is followed by the famous grand pas hongrois, which contains ensembles for all 10 dancers, who wear radiant white costumes. Act III of Raymonda was performed as part of a tribute to Nureyev at the Royal Opera House in 2003.
The final act of Petipa's grand ballet classic, which contains some of the greatest choreography in Russian ballet, was adapted by Rudolf Nureyev.

In the theatre, you could hear her clap right up in the gods. It's a shame this isn't audible on the video. It was like a call to attention. The whole audience snapped awake. She is wonderful. Consummately classical and yet beyond ballet.
Really? I'm so glad she did the French/Nureyev version WITH the audible clap, not the silent "traditional Russian" version, it goes so much better with Raymonda taking her place as rightful Queen, and Natasha just exudes that power

I heard her say in an interview that she hates sewing pointe shoes. Maybe that’s why she tries to avoid it as long as Sache can, lol 😅

Stunning. Her acting is as perfect as her dancing. She's a totally different character when she chooses to be, according to need. Wonderful.

This is why she is my favorite ballerina! The command, sophistication, and artistry. She truly acts THROUGH the moves, not merely alongside them. Nureyev would be proud of her interpretation. Like Guillem, she captures her personality so well: sensual, imperialistic, sophisticated, a little icy and snooty yet passionate.

I'll also say that Nureyev's choreography is amazing. Normally I don't like his choreographic changes, but I think his Raymonda choreography is better than the original. So unique.
Eugh. I think nureyev's raymonda is not his best choregraphy. But i love his swan lake, romeo and juliet, don quichotte...
@@r.r.c7692 I think his Don Quixote pas de deux is nice for the most part. But sometimes it gets too complicated, especially Basilio's choreography. Nureyev was an amazing artist though! I'll have to watch his Romeo and Juliet again. I can't remember what it looks like.

Its true that sometimes his choregraphies are too complicated. i don't regard as sacred nureyev but i think he did really good things and other less good. he had a very singular approach which makes it interesting.

È simile a nessun'altra, di classico non ha assolutamente nulla. Per inciso, la scena della morte di Romeo nella cripta interpretata da Nureyev-Fonteyn è insuperabile!

Juan Arboleda Also Yulia Makhalina and Elizabeth Platel. These dancers with Sylvie Guillem have a big advantage over Miss Osipova - height.
SG's performance is legend. But wish to point out that although Royal ballet and POB both performed Nureyev version, the chorography are slightly different and Royal ballet's one act has less (or none) storyline than POB. Both wonderful.

Раймонда - племянница графини Сибиллы де Дорис - аристократка, а не кривоногая золушка . В заведение на 2-фрунзенской балерин учат хорошим манерам , но даже там аристократизм не прививают. У балерины он либо есть, либо нет. У Осиповой его нет - Жизель, Золушка, Китри, Гульнара и прочие - не принцесса...

Страннейшая трактовка. Этакая решительная российская дама. Даже Нонна Мордюкова в роли управдома припомнилась. Поплотнела наша обожаемая балерина. Думаю, это результат экспериментов...
А что в этом плохого? Хорошо что есть артисты с разной внешностью которые по разному интерпритируют роли. Зачем смотреть одно и тоже?

@@user-vb8lg3qy5g Китч - это и стиль Осиповой в классике, если бы Марина Викторовна ее не укрощала, мы постоянно видели бы такое и на сцене Большого театра. У меня было видео ее дебюта в Баядерке в Новосибирске, я хохотала всю трагическую часть 2 действия - от "корзинки" до смерти Никии.

Совершенно согласна. Несоответствие образу просто режет глаз! Не только с Гиллем не может сравниться, не только Лопаткина или Захарова на порядок эффектнее, но даже до Александровой или Олеси Новиковой не дотягивает...Есть пословица:"Не в свои сани не садись". При этом балерина выдающаяся! Лучше ее Китри просто не существует в природе! Но зачем Раймонда???

We all have different opinions, but this is absolutely not for me. I saw it at the live cinema screening, and am very glad I didn’t pay to go. The Royal have plenty of other principals for. a classic like Raymonda.
Вообще, Осипова - самая любимая из современных балерин. Но какая из нее Раймонда??? Зачем это? Выглядит...как хоббит на утреннике. И это несмотря на то, что танцует нуреевскую версию.Невольно сравниваешь с С.Гиллем и понимаешь, насколько неорганична в этой партии Наталья. Есть масса других партий, в который она ЛУЧШАЯ. Зачем было трогать Раймонду!?Ну, НЕ ЕЁ ЭТО!!!
Нуу, Нуреев гениальный танцор и так себе балетмейтер, мягко говоря. Осипова большая балерина. Иногда неудачно показывают. Крепенькая такая, коренастенькая. Гиллем лучшая в этой партии, несомненно
@@viki56k88так СГ уже не танцует,так что другим не исполнять партии где блистала СГ?Да образы в исполнении Семеняки,Гилем,Захаровой,Лопаткиной,Александровой,Капцовой смотрятся элегантнее,изысканнее но это за счет рафинированной красоты исполнительниц.И мы зрители привыкли к этим стандартам образаРаймонда Натальи страстна,властна и нетерпелива ,она абсолютно живая в этой партии,ну а в техника исполнения танца -безупречна.

i've watched some videos of her and she always wears worn out shoes like this. so maybe it's her preference.

With the massive financial support of this company, it is notable that they can only summon a single act of this important ballet and then try to make a big deal out of it.. Even ENB have taken measures to stage the whole ballet when we get out of lockdown. Lacking ambition ROH ?
