I can't get over Zakharova's bourrées. They are pure perfection and look so graceful, fluid, and effortless.
Zakharova is ethereal. I like that her version is artistic and not athletic. She always exude beauty and grace.
Her point work is so light, like floating through the air, it is out of this world.
The GODESS Sylvie GUILLEM as usual is above the univers …technique, musicality, sensuality, … looks like the piano was played by her feet .. with her everything seems smooth, effortless and so beautiful ..MIRACLE

Svetlana Zhakarova is her name and she is ethereal and otherworldly and dances with such ease and fluidity that it tricks you into think you can do it yourself. This woman is beyond perfection

I mean khoreva was only 19 and this was her debut as Raymonda, it doesn't really make sense to compare her to these icons who have 10 to 20 more years of experience, but I still love seeing the interpretation of each ballerina

But it just shows how Maria is actually considered to be on a par with very experienced ballerinas.
i can tell zakharova was also very young in her clip, apart from the actual recording quality if you notice she was still using grishko which means this is from around 2000s or previous. in any case it’s a huge praise for maria to be compared to these queens!! it’s not meant as a race, just artistic comparison and she nailed it!!
Raymonda is about speed and elegance. Without musicality and the body to execute the movements can make or break the interpretation of this dance. Sylvie reigns supreme in this variation. She has the musicality and body to dance fittingly for this variation. WOW! Just supreme dancing.

Everyone rehearsing this variation should watch Sylvie's performance. Not to imitate her movements, but to get inspired by the radical freedom in them. She is Raymonda in spite of still being Sylvie, even better, she's the best Raymonda, the most powerful one, because she dances Raymonda with all the potential living in Queen Sylvie. The last 20th century's dancer. The ulimate ballerina's personality.
All are magnificent. Guillem and Osipova are so strong and stunning in their interpretation. Khoreva is still very young.
This is the role and the scene that introduced me to Sylvie Guillem, now easily my favorite dancer. I could not take my eyes off of her, she was truly mesmerizing, something I would learn that was not at all unique to this role. She is exquisite and was at the pinnacle of dance. She is still an inspiration.

All great ballerinas with beautiful variations on the theme but Guillem gets me every time. Love this version, it's ebb and flow and just pure Guillem in action.

Zakharova uses music really well.
Svetlana has amazing amount of grace. Others show way too much work in the flutter. She makes it look effortless. Actually, others make most of it look like work and jerky rather than flowing and graceful.

After viewing this several times, Sylvie Guillem's performance really hits home for me. Even though Zakharova's arms bend so serpentinely it's hard to believe, Sylvie's arm work seems more integrated with the motions of her body. She also seems more in time with the music than the others. Everyone's good, but Sylvie looks perfect.
She has a totally different style from the Russians, she delays the upper body and arms when doing the backwards steps in a flowing motion, the others don't do that

Well after seeing all of these one after the other I must say that my favorite is....EVERY ONE OF THEM!! I'm not a critic or a company director - just a very serious ballet fan, so I have the privilege of loving all of these wonderful ballerinas and not having to choose just one of them. I am struck by how different they all are in their interpretations of this role and how beautiful they all are in it. Just wonderful! Thanks for posting this!

my god this has some of the longest stretches of time being completely up en pointe I've seen. bodies of absolute steel, and so graceful. I'm never not blown away
I adore Raymonda, the score for the entire ballet is sublime, the dreams scene in Act 1 is so beautiful, it's a dream of mine to see it performed live, all these ballerinas are excellent, but Sylvie is something else

Zakharova really stands out for me out of these splendid performances. She is so incredibly powerful through and through that when I was watching her I thought that she might shoot lightning out of her fingers. I loved it, and appreciate it every time when I see dancers channel strength to their arms instead of just leaving them for line extension tools. This small little detail makes Zakharova's work crisp, strong, and alive from tip to toe. She owns the character and her power, and it makes all the difference.
Khoreva's beautiful as always, but at the same time I almost always get the feeling that she has worked so hard living up to other people's standards and being perfect in her art that she hasn't had the time to work on her own uniqueness which is, of course, absolutely there only to be discovered and tapped into. When it comes to ballet students, finding, working on and trusting the depth of your own personality can often be as hard as (if not harder than) refining one's technique, especially when people start so very young. This is one of Khoreva's best performances I've seen in this regard. Wishing her all the best, she is fantastic all the same.

I love comparisons because I appreciate the styles of all the ballerinas but for this one, Sylvie is my favorite by a mile. Next is Marianela. As usual, Zacharova strikes me as the perfect technician who always plays the same character, herself.

Svetlana Zhakarova is just as good if not more beautiful looking than Sylvie. Sylvie is a goddess in her own right. Nuñez does not hold a candle to Svetlana or Sylvie so I don't even know how you can compare!!! You lost all credibility when you said that.
Sylvie!!! Goddess! I admire all the other ballerinas but I felt bored after 30 seconds. and skipped to the fast part. But Silvie is different. She lives the part as she dances. its a pleasure to see every move. Hands, neck, head , body moves are unbelievable. Svetlana Zhakarova never bores she floats like a fairy and an angel in one. Insane to think that. And Natalia osipova was overweight and 38 here out of shape. In her prime in her twenties, Sylvie 25 in this image while Natalia was much older and overweight, she would have been perfect because she's great with high energy and charisma. Still though, I prefer svetlana's ethereal style
Osipova has the feeling for the music. In her very expression , the slight smile and the understated confidence. Bravo. All amazing dancers, but Osipova takes on the character.

These ballerinas are treasures, each expressing their unique qualities and interpretation. I looked up Gelsey Kirkland’s version after watching this clip and, even though the video itself is not so clear, she is a standout, too. We’re so lucky to be able to watch these sublime artists.

I'm torn between Svetlana and Sylvie. Both were superb. I know it's supposed to be Sylvie but Svetlana is so fluid in this piece.
Both ballerinas are superb in their way. As Shakespeare once said, 'Comparisons are odious'. Let us not compare but rather rejoice in the differing approaches top performers take in this challenging role.

Osipova is usually my favourite, but Guillem was just made for this variation - the grace & extension in her upper body all while maintaining that footwork is something to behold. Khoreva doesn’t hold a candle to them, unfortunately.

Really interesting! Thanks for this. All such different interpretations too. I think Maria Khoreva showed plenty of drama: it did not always show on her face, but in the way she used her body... fascinating to watch. Sylvia as always was stunning, a real individual. If I had to choose a favourite, it would be Zakharova though: I know the ballet is set in Hungary, but I found Zakharova’s Interpretation fascinatingly reminiscent of Georgian/ Cossack dances, the way the ladies seem to be floating - which she achieved with those incredibly neat bourrees- and the elegant use of arms (they are supposed to be swans): then the change with the music to a more Hungarian style. That, to me, was the most compelling viewing.

They are all great - but Guillem is fantastic. Sophisticated. Absolutely the best. No 2 is Zakharova, Nunes, Osipova and Khoreva.
Disagree..Svetlana is is definitely number one. She melts into the air with her fluidity. Her arms hands feet everything is so beautiful and ethereal she's like a fairy and an angel. Sylvie is obviously one of the greatest of all time but her upper body is too stiff for me and her arms are too stickish. It's just her choice in this dance but I'm not don't care for it. Svetlana embodies everything with perfection
I liked them all, but Zakarova was a little bit better in my opinion. Though I absolutely love Osipova and Nunez.

Великолепно танцует Захарова. Чувствуется высочайший класс балерины. Она сразу выделяется на фоне других прекрасной работой ног, музыкальностью, своим собственным стилем. Несомненно она выдающаяся балерина! О Сильви Гиллем даже и не знаю что сказать. Я не могу воспринимать ее просто как балерину. Для меня она нечто гораздо большее. Когда я смотрю как она танцует, я не вижу балерину- я вижу танец, чувствую эмоции не балерины Гиллем, а именно героини балета. А я ведь смотрю отрывок выступления в записи и через интернет. Подобные впечатления я испытываю еще и от выступлений Галины Улановой.

Sylvie Guillem est majestueuse. Elle a non seulement une technique irréprochable mais aussi une fluidité qui rend cette technique légère. Quel dommage que la carrière d’une étoile soit si courte. Les autres ballerines sont également éblouissantes . La jeune Khoreva semble si jeune, elle manquait certainement d’expérience pour ce rôle.

On ne peut que rendre hommage à toutes ces ballerines au corps merveilleusement traversé par ces notes de musique qui forment un morceau fascinant. J'avoue que je ne connais pas ce ballet, et maintenant j'ai très envie de le voir.
C'est la variation majeure de ce ballet... Sylvie Guillem est tellement au dessus des autres, malheureusement la qualité de l'image filmée un peu vieillotte ne la favorise pas... Zarkharova est bien aussi... Khoreva est un peu trop rigide selon moi.

Yes, her interpretation is breath-taking.
She’s also probably the most expressive in response to the music, I think. I prefer Osipova in many roles, but agree that Ulyana is perfectly suited for this difficult solo. Her movements are so musical and refined.
Wow, what lovely dancers! Each gave a slightly different interpretation, beautifully performed. I thought Khoreva was very lyrical, light and lovely lines and arms. I adore Natalia Osipova, so she can do no wrong, and Sylvie Guilems dance was intense and amazing!

Thank you for the upload! I love this variation so much! Guillem and Nuñez both provide the tremendous sensuality, subtlety and maturity needed to make it sublime. I didn't see those qualities as much with the others.
