Already owning a metal pipe (Tsuge), I'm well aware how good such pipes can be. The Nording Compass damn near stacks up to the Tsuge. Great value for a neat, simple great smoking pipe.
Hey guys. First off, great video! I really enjoyed this video. These pipes are also available in the UK. The briar bowl versions are called the Compass but the Aluminium covered versions are called the Sailor.
Interesting. I think some of the online shops here also do the same, although where I bought them they were all listed as "Compass". Thanks for watching.
You could add a short bit/length of 'heat-shrink tubing' to the aluminum stem of the Nording Compass, close to the bowl, to shield better from heat. Tom Eltang's Basic have a carbon-fiber stem-tube...it doesn't get hot. Also, the Eltang Basic's stem-tube is adhered to the bowl. So it doesn't come out, or fall out, but it also cannot be taken down (apart) as far as the Nording Compass.
@@PipesTobaccoWhiskey I just received my Compass today and removed it from its sack. Mine too came apart, easily, at the stem-tube couples to the bowl. I tried putting it back and it wasn't going in but 1/8" and I marked its depth with masking tape. I then used a 3/16" wooden dowel and some masking tape to mark the depth the dowel was going into the hole of the bowl; to compare it to the stem-tube. And I found the tube wasn't even making it halfway into the hole. I then reset the tape on the tube equal to the depth I marked on the dowel. And soo.....I used my large Irwin Quick-Grip clamp and got the tube inserted to less than 1mm from the correct depth now marked by the tape on the tube. Now it's solid. If you try this I recommend doing so very carefully, slowly, and periodically checking to keep it all aligned. Or simply return the one with this issue for another with better fitment. Cheers all.
Apparently the pure briar is a compass while the metal enshrouded ones are compass sailors? Stems are available separately so you can easily make one into a churchwarden.
@@PipesTobaccoWhiskey i ask you one last question. The aluminium version, holding it in your hand, during the smoke heats more than the wooden one? I am not able to chose one or the other. Thank you for the patience.
I was on the fence but you guys convinced me to get one. Thanks for the review.
Hope you enjoy! Thanks for watching
Great video gents, I’m sold, order placed. Thanks!
👍

👍

Glad it got fixed for you…I’ll give it a look/see and decide what I’ll do. Hopefully an easy fix! Thanks
@@PipesTobaccoWhiskey Hope so...felt a bit scary having to fix a new pipe, but you do wha...etc.
👍
Hey I liked the hand coming over the dad's shoulder at the end waving goodbye
My neighbor....Wild and crazy guy! Thanks for watching.
@@PipesTobaccoWhiskey haaa how funny! Hey I'd like to see you guys review some flakes, plugs, or cakes some time
Next week is a Seattle Pipe Club Krumble Cake
Draft holes in side wall of bowl where stem enters so will not smoke down below that. Draft hole should be in the bottom.
👍

These are nice looking pipes. The only disadvantage (for me) is the small size bowl.
But very portable. Thanks for watching.
great review as always - cheers !
Thanks!
I just ordered me one yesterday.
Nice. Mine is still going strong!
Thanks for the review. One tiny thing. It is pronounced compass. Not cumpuss.
Not in Texas! 😜
Have you tried putting a pinch of aromatic under the bowl so smoke travels through it.
Hmmm....interesting.
is there any difference in weight between the wooden and the aluminium version?
Not enough for me to tell the difference…

The aluminum is just a wrap…it has briar under that. Really can not tell if you smoke it slowly. Of course if you smoke it hard, it will get hot.
Ordering one now I think
Hope you enjoy it.
