This is a basic way to transfer any program file. Thank you for doing this for people who need it. This should work on most windows operating systems!!!
Thank you...I have been cataloguing my record collection for 12 years using a program which has since been discontinued. I thought I was going to lose everything, but thanks to your guidance I was able to transfer it to another computer.
Thanks! I’m getting a new computer and I have a discontinued version of Paint Tool SAI, which I use daily for my job. I thought I’d have to get a new program and lose all of my custom tools, but I’m so relieved to find out that I can just transfer it over. Thank you so much!
This will not work for a program that uses DLL's that reside in a different folder. Some Windows programs reference Registry entries to find needed resources.
Just the guidance I needed! I knew that it was possible to move programs to other pcs by taking them from the hard drive folder, but I never knew how exactly it was done! Thanks for the explanation! (I'm also moving old discontinued software to a newer computer.) Cheers!!

You copied the entirety of Windows movie makers Program Files folder? If you do so the folder will have the icon to run the program in it. Just click on it when you run it, don't bother with making a shortcut.
if the app have a folder in program file, one in program file x86 and one in documents(it's empty) should i copy all of them on my other pc in the exact location from where i copy them? and if i reinstall my windows, will this work?

Will this work on a registered program and retain the registration on the new computer? I have a desktop world clock program that I love, I haven't been able to find anything even close to Crave World Clock. The only problem is I have a purchased/registered copy and the key I have does not work on the new computer with a new install. The company is gone so I can't repurchase it. I'm trying to find some way to transfer the purchased registered version to the new computer (actual same computer just do HDD) and retain the registration.
I had the same problem but i was able to contact the company and they eventually sent me the registration key. If you still have the registration key it still should work
Any Reason you can't just copy the program file folder itself, in your case "Freemake" and paste that into the USB drive opposed to copying the files within the folder and making a new folder in the usb drive?
Try and see. This is just the method I was taught and I'm sharing. It works so.. there's that. But if another method works too then there's more than one way to skin a cat
The file in the desktop is just a map to the files saved in the Hardrive (C:). If you move that without the program files, the new computer will follow the map and not find the programs code.
Did not work for me, I am trying to transfer an outdated program from 1999 on a windows 7 system to a windows 10/11 system. When I do all your steps and I attempt to open the start exe file it says this app can't run on your PC, contact software publisher. The software publisher is no longer available. When transferring files from old to USB I got an error message on some BAT files that could not be transferred, could this be where the issue lies? Any help would be appreciated.
So your battling 2 things...one the program your transferring does not work with the new software you have. (Ie a 32 bit processing program for a 64 bit processor won't work) Second check the license. Alot of times when I transfer software I need to use my user code, purchasing code or password, depending on the transfer. Most software wants the licensing passwords to transfer and open. Thisbis the case with me. I'm transferring an older program I had a lifetime membership to for a new computer. I kept the password and I have to reissue the password to open the system. It's super common. It's one of these two issues.

There may be some recognition issues from a retro program on a newer computer. Check by trying to transfer another smaller less expensive program to see if you have the same issues. That will tell you if it's an issue with that particular program. Some have a one time use code and won't activate.
what you are showing is only copying files from one computer to another. It does not copy the Program and Product codes that allows for licensed programs to be transferred to another machine.
@@TutorialTony777 If the program has a license key in the install, the license is not included with the copy to a flash drive. installed programs like Photoshop and even Windows have product Keys and activation codes, and those keys are not included when you do a copy and paste that you showed in your video. The Product Keys are put in the registry and other hidden places and without that info included in your file transfer, the programs will not work.
@Pat Zeuner where in this video did I mention anything about keys? This is simple and to the point for existing programs.. if you have the program you should have the key. Some are for one use and that won't work.
@@TutorialTony777 Your lead to your video clearly states "Transfer a Program" what you showed was how to copy the files within a program folder. What you should have labeled the video is "Transfer Files", because to transfer "Programs" is a lot more complicated than the copy and paste, for any program that has Keys and or Codes.
