@@NorthernVikingEverydayi installed chrome os onto usb drive long time ago but now when i open it on windows 10 it says wipe off usb drive data and keeps saying the same thing
Thank you Ken, you made my life a lot simpler. I am a old dude who until recently had no computer knowledge, not even able to fire one up properly. Now I can store my music files safely and I don't need a blank cassette (LOL!)
Thank you, I have had the same computer for 10 years & finally getting a new one ! this really helped to simplify how to copy and save my files to new a flash drive
Just sent for new laptop with Windows 10 so I could perform this fun myself. I have been a tablet addict so I have get back to computing. You gave me confidence😊!
Best and easiest info I've ever seen. Hats off to you and I'm a new subscriber so I hope you have many videos here I can learn from. Have a great day Viking!!
Sorry, I'm a computer ignoramus. When I did exactly what you said, and dragged the file over to the USB area, it didn't move the file, all it did was create a "shortcut" to the file. No file was actually moved to the USB. How can I move a file? You make it look easy. I'll try the "send to" method now.
Thanks for the tutorial man, it's very easy and useful step. This video way better than 20 minutes tutorial which I've couldn't even understand. Once again, thank you for your support.
Thanks. Clear and concise. Didn't know about the eject step. I have an external hard drive and I think that I may have corrupted the files because I missed that step.
Great tutorial/instructional Video Ken. Finally, someone who explains clearly & slowly. Thank You 👍 Two Questions --- How to copy EVERYTHING on my Laptop to a USB flash drive ?? How to copy files/items from Android phone to my Laptop ??
Glad it was helpful! You probably won't be able to copy all the files off a laptop to a flash drive. They aren't typically big enough. You would probably need an external hard drive. Typically this would work the same as a flashdrive where you find your files on the computer and copy them over. As for Android, Unfortunately I don't have a video on the topic but I'm sure there should be some out there.
Thank you for the video. It was simple and easy to follow. I am working on a second doctorate degree and I was concerned that my files were not saved. My first degree was some on a Macintosh 512e and everything was saved on disks.
Truly thankful for this! I obviously have a lot of computer knowledge knowing that I make animations, but recently was trying to transfer my files to my new laptop so I could continue my work!
In all the years of having computers, I've never felt the need for a thumb drive, until now. This was very informative, and helpful, and you touched on everything I 'sort of knew', and watching your video showed me, I guess I know a bit more about computers than I thought! The only thing you didn''t mention...how do you tell when the 'stick' is getting close to being full. I assume something will pop up on screen like a warning...you're running out of room...but most likely it won't. Thank you again for this right to the point, informative video.
I'm glad this video was able to help you out. To check how much space is left, open up the file explorer on your computer. On the left hand side, find your drive and right click on it. Then select properties. This should show you how much space is still available.
@@NorthernVikingEveryday Hello (again). I could never get mine to work past the clicking on docs then my pc. Where I see the USB on the bottom of the row, click on it, and it looks nothing like what is in your video. Put it away, and thought I'd try it again tonight. Same thing. Now not sure what I'm doing wrong...Thanks. ((Merry Christmas!))

Thanks, Ken. You have explained this in a simple clear, and detailed step. You have spoken slowly too. I am an old fart who cannot understand when people talk quickly.
Hi thanks for best and east to follow how to do this. I have windows 11 installed on a 32Gb SD micro card that I put in a USB device. It only took up 6 Gb's so I'm wandering how can I install other programs or files onto the same SD micro card without over writing on the windows 11? I hope u can explain how to add more to micro card
omg thank you so so much this helped so much!! i just got a new computer for my birthday and wanted all of thing things from my old one and now i have it
Thanks for making it so easy. I just turned 70. I know right. Anyway, things are not as easy as they use to be. I never thought I would be one of those old guys who couldn't get a handle on tech. Alas, while I don't fully recognize that fellow in my current reflection, I am starting to suspect the dim shadow behind me, is indeed him. And he's approach might be more rapid than I would like to admit. In any case I went ahead and subscribed. I'll be checking in now and then. Of particular interest are any videos that might help an old guy deal a little more effectively with Windows 11. I was doing marginally well with WIndows 10. I even thought about trying to roll my new Dell back to 10. But I know it's probably best if I try to get a handle on it. I'm sure there are capabilities that make 11 better than 10. At least I hope that's the case.
Hi you helped before and succeeded with this subject. This time initially it wouldn't transfer you wouldn't believe after 45 minutes I reinstalled my SSD drive and it worked, weird?😊
Great explanation and fast and easy. My question is that I have a HP desktop and the flash drive fit, but now I have a HP chromebook and the flash drive doesn't fit. Please help or if anyone who sees this can offer any advice I would appreciate it very much.
The brand of computer is irrelevant. What matters is the type of flash drive. Most Chromebooks support USB-C, which is the newer USB standard. It is much smaller than the typical USB plug most people are used to seeing. You will most likely need to buy a USB type A to Type C adapter OR a USB-C hub that has multiple Type A ports.

Thanks Ken! Does the thumb drive need to be formatted before data transfer?
You're welcome! Typically they come formatted out of the box, but if you're not sure, you could always give it a quick format.
Great! Thank you
Thanks so much!! I have one question. Why would the data become corrupt if we just pull the drive out without clicking "eject"?
If it is still in the process of transferring data and it is not complete you would corrupt the data. Best way to be safe is to eject it.
