Why when I copied my music file from my old Windows 7 computer (about 2,000 songs) to my new computer, when I loaded it on a large SSD 1 Trig drive, the file size was different. The original folder said "1,921 files", but on the SSD drive it said "888 files". Both folders have the identical songs, (that's all there is on the drive). What causes the files to be different on a straight out copy?
I believe there is an important difference between 'transfer' and 'copy' functions. Copy is just that, you end up with a file in two locations, where transfer picks up and moves a file from one location to another. Windows 10 was SO much better!!!!! What I'd like to do is take a file that is in my downloads and transfer it to one of many existing files on my ext. hard drive, while not creating a new file there. Let's say the file I want to move is "roofing" and I want to move it to a file on my hard drive called "home improvements". On windows 10 easy as pie, I could do the transfer directly to "home improvements"; windows 11 as you describe the process just drops the 'roofing' file into the ext hard drive, then I need to locate it and drag it to the 'Home Improvements' file
Hi Kenny , so happy to have found you thank you so much for sharing , in such a great clear and easy way to understand , just great .of course did subscribe to your channel
Do you have to open up two file boxes? What if you just want to move the files, not copy? Can't you just drag and drop them into your USB on the same screen?
I need help with Windows 10 on a laptop. I didn't know about OneDrive, and now move of the Laptop has been moved to the OneDrive, including the computer desktop.
Thanks, this helped since I'm new to Windows 11; I got the files on a flash drive but didn't know how to get them onto my new computer...the two window example was the clincher. Thanks again!
Thank you you really helped me. Can you please help with how do I see the pictures without having to click and open up in a whole nother window. Please help this is driving me crazy... And how do I stop it from keep going back... I'm just showing me icon and numbers have to continue clicking on it to actually see a picture and most of them are opening up in a second window some of them is not.. I don't know how to really explain it or what it's called so I'm having trouble looking it up.. if you already covered this topic can you please share the link or I can find it thank you for any assistance you can give me
If you're on a Windows computer, you can hold the left Ctrl Key and use the scroll wheel on your mouse to make the items bigger. Eventually you should start to see previews of what the images contain.
so i have a 15th birthday party video 1hour 15 minutes long it’s 10.5 gb i have it in one usb and i need to transfer it to another usb. do i need something else to help the process the usb is 128 gb
You need a computer as an intermediary. Just note that it can take a very long time to transfer the video file depending on how fast your PC is and how fast the source and destination drives are.
your instruction is so clear and so easy to follow. I've watch so many and I'm like "what"? lol. So glad I came across your video. thank you for sharing.
I've have tried numerous times Windows 10 VLC to convert DVD Videos and send to USB THUMBDRIVE so I can watch my movies on various platforms. I've tried 4 different movies and they transfer fine to my laptop in files but when I send to thumbdrive, I don't get sound!! What's up?
That's a good question. I would try using the same port every time. If anyone else watching has some ideas, please comment below. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.
@@NorthernVikingEveryday I tried the same port, then a different one. The computer recognized the SSD drive UNTIL I try to transfer videos to it. Again not until then it stops and blocks my transfer. Thx anyhow!
I actually started downloading everything directly to my portable drives from source, qnd this is the best way to do it, large files and folders that are planning to be transferred to an external drive should be planned to be completely independent from your windows drive. Pro word of advice, plan your downloads and file management beforehand so that you dont have to do this in the first place! It might work with a couple images or documents or what ever but try to make a backup of your OS onto a portable drive with out third party software and your computer and portable drive will be obsolete by the time everything is transfered, I mean through windows OS without thrid party help it would literally take years to back up your drive! Another pro tip, factory reset your windows computer and boot Linux! Windows is the laughing stock of the industry for anyone who actually knows about computers, delete Windows and install Linux now!
Im trying to get off the dev insider view for windows 11 because its not allowing me to use some apps that i use a lot. Can you copy all of your files from the computer onto a flashdrive and then reinstall them after you completely reset the computer?
Thanks for the help my mom took some private lessons via zoom and they’ve been recorded and stored on a google docs I was able to get all her lessons onto a thumb drive for her to look back at!
Great video! Thanks very much. I want to transfer my files from my old computer which one is windows 10 to my new computer which is windows 11. What should I format the USB stick to?
Flash drives aren't intended to be used as permanent storage devices. You can try doing it, but if the flash drive fails, everything is lost. You're better off upgrading your computer's hard drive/SSD to a larger capacity drive.
My problem is copying files from Windows 11 to a flash drive that has existing files with the same file name. I like to use my flash drive as a "back up." However, when I copy files over from hard drive to USB -- if there is a file with that name already on the USB -- it does not give me the option like Windows 10 -- "Do you want to Replace or Skip?" I always want to replace because I have edited that file and it contains new information. However, what Windows 11 does is MAKE A COPY of the file and renames the file to "Name - copy." Now I have two files on my USB with the same name. The old file and File Name - Copy. This usually happens when I am doing bulk copying. How can I make Windows 11 ask me Do you want to Replace or Skip?
@@universalshorts412 Right click on your video file and from the menu that pops up choose "Send To" and then choose to send it to you D drive. Let me know if that works.

I lost my old laptop but have a backup of photos on a seagate drive. I want to put them on my new laptop. Is the process pretty much the same only in reverse?
Try to do that with a folder over a couple gigs and over 100 files inside and you will want to throw your windows computer out the window and sue Microsoft for emotional damages lol. This method is a joke if you are dealing with large files or folders so just be warned before you spend 17 hours watching a 2 gig folder transfer

Great video! Thanks very much. I want to transfer my files from my old computer which one is windows 10 to my new computer which is windows 11. What should I format the USB stick to?
Probably fat32 or exfat. However, fat32 I believe has a four gigabyte file size limit if I'm not mistaken.
Will this work on Windows 10?
Yes, it is very similar.
What would I do if I wanted to use it as just more storage space?
Flash drives aren't intended to be used as permanent storage devices. You can try doing it, but if the flash drive fails, everything is lost. You're better off upgrading your computer's hard drive/SSD to a larger capacity drive.
