    I grew up in Olympia, WA in the forest. Its very eerie and dark. Even on sunny days it is dark because of how intensely thick the forest is. Its so thick its almost impossible to walk through it. I remember we used to dare each other as kids to run into the woods at night and stay there for a certain amount of time. it was terrifying

    Cascadian Black Metal is a region. Not a specific flavor. Could be atmospheric, satanic, occultic, nature, etc. Regardless there's vibe to the sound that's noticeably different to that of our European friends across the pond. Which I think is fuckin cool.
    Being unable to really be apart of the Euro scene spawned adaptations to the genre that fit our environment, and thus a new sound within black metal. No one can deny the influence nature has even in traditional black metal.
    I find comparing the differences in sound between the two very similar-but-different environments to be fascinating

    • @RautaMetal
      @RautaMetal  4 года назад

      Aye, I’m aware in the cascadian mountain region. I wasn’t until a couple of years ago. In those terms it’s much like Norwegian black metal which really doesn’t define bands’ style - just the region. It just so happens that many Cascadian bm bands are more soothing and atmospheric, and nature-related, not really satanic akin to Dark Funeral or violent such as Marduk.

    It is such a paradox that the people that want politics out of music are the same people that want to bring it up all the time in discussions and not in their songs/art for the listeners to articulate the message personally for themselves, but instead interrogate bands that may have a left leaning world view. (ex: Rage Against The Machine did spoke about politics in their music and only talked about it when asked in interviews. Big difference). There will always be politics in the arts and that is just reality. Bands that have right-leaning views complain about not bringing up politics like this because they know if they did the same thing, it makes them come off like assholes... Seriously, how can you make a song about how great Austerity can be for any economy (when it historically hasn't been in any country) or a song about exploiting the labor of workers listenable? It would not work. If there are songs like this out there, they are not serious and are trolling pink-haired college liberals that would hilariously get triggered easily by this obvious scheme... But those that read and see the bullshit right away know how to counter these pranks with constructive arguments.
    If black metal is truly "misanthropic" and uber-individualistic as it likes to showcase itself to be, then these artists should walk their talk and NOT release their music to the public. In other words, these "kvlt" bands and their fans don't really believe the values that they state to the media or their inner circles online. So logically right wing black metal bands you know publicly are not true misanthropes and uber-individualistic. They're just trying to be edgy. This guy from WITTR was being diplomatic as he can to Rauta's hawkish questions, but at the same time maybe Rauta was presenting how certain black metal bases feel about bands like WITTR and wanted this singer's view on that. In the grand scheme of things this is all complaining about WITTR is just stupid really whether you like the band or not.

      @@RautaMetal I used to be in the German BM-Scene in the mid 90s, today i ain't anymore. Got no problem with US-BM at all, still got some stuff of Demoncy, Krieg and several projects of Akhenaten here. No offense in general.

    • @RautaMetal
      @RautaMetal  5 лет назад +3

      Good bands. I forgot to mention Demoncy earlier when I listed some good USBM bands to others. That's definitely among the better ones. For me the best still are Absu and Judas Iscariot. Really doubt any other USBM band can ever beat those two in my books.

    • @APXA1
      @APXA1 5 лет назад +3

      @@RautaMetal Yup...got the first two Absu records, too, also Black Funeral and Black Witchery stuff.
      Profanatica was also to mention these days, very simple, but a least raw and ugly.
      Akhenaten and everything he did was pretty well accepted overhere and was, of course, a part of the later german scene.
      Mentioning all this stuff above, you now might understand my attitude towards a band like Wolfs.
      For me they are fake, no attitude, no spirit....it's BM for a generation of BM-fans that actually don't like BM.
      So hating this band, got nothing to do with USBM. They are just boring as fuck.

    • @RautaMetal
      @RautaMetal  5 лет назад +2

      Kollege Mostrich Yes. I understand you even though I don't agree. I think Wolves have decent stuff. And anyway I like to interview many kinds of bands. Not must my favorites.
      Absu's debut I never got to like. But Tara is one of the best bm albums of all time.

      Well, you should undertstand that "Cascadian" here refers to those mountains in the NW USA. Thus, it's location-related term much like "Nordic Black Metal", nothing more, nothing less.

      Maraloz Safir it’s an opinion (which happens to be fact) but so far anything coming out of the USA these days is this hipster bm like Liturgy and Deafheaven. It really isn’t bm but ok since Nathan likes Cascadian bm let’s just eliminate the word black and call it Cascadian Metal for better accuracy for all those sharp shooters out there.

    • @safirzz

      @@Voyvoda1903 Ivan Pelovski dont get me wrong, i hate liturgy and deafheaven (really), but there is good things coming from the US, im a brazilian and listen to black metal from a lot of countries, from this year i can name the project of bestial devotion from negative plane, its called funereal presence, its a pretty solid album.
      i also like the raw stuff like bone awl and shit, take a listen to nyogthaeblisz, tetragrammacide, anyway, grand belial key is one of my fav bands so i gotta defend us bm a little, but i agree with you in a degree. from my country i can name two bands for you to check: goatpenis (war metal/black metal) and sovereign.
      my problem is just that this horrible term 'hipster' is just dated and stupid, just call shitty black metal if you dont like them, but i personally dig their two first albuns (diadem and two hunters), cascadian black metal for me is just a stupid term for atmospheric black metal.
