- Blasphemy is probably the most extreme cult act ever to come from Canada. Not only a powerful combination of early death and black metal, but also one of the creators of war metal and big powerlifting guys, Blasphemy surely made their mark already in the 1980s. This interview was conducted at Steelfest 2024 in Finland, May 2024.
Host: Jerry Kurunen

For those who doesn't know there almost NO interviews excising from Blasphemy. This one is HISTORICAL!!!
💪🫡
In fact, this is the second ever filmed published interview, done in person with the guys, not via Skype or something I mean, in Europe, after that old one, done in March of 1993, while on tour with Gorguts : I'm taking about that cult short one found on the "666 on calling death" documentary.

It's so weird to actually hear Caller of the Storms talking, thanks so much for this!
My pleasure!
When Black Winds didn't excitedly/tweakingly interrupt 😂😂 what legends!
Watch his interview with Yosuke of NWN! He actually interviewed both of these guys separately
Excellent interview! Blasphemy interviews are always great. Cool to hear the support for the Paraguayan and South American bands as well!

Amazing they're still active. Black Metal Gods.
NS people of the scene digging Blasphemy is something I find really funny 😂
Legendary band for sure!
What's wrong with them liking a good Band? It's Leftists that actually cry about Blasphemy, who do you think was calling them Skinheads? It sure wasn't the National Socialists.

South America pushed the death, black war metal sound out in the 80s
I would include Obsessed By Cruelty as well.
@@MrAaronbathorySodom is definitely a influential band but by mid 80s Latin America were a ahead on the extreme side when European bands were playing thrash we had blast beats and low tone guitars with the popular sound that’s now known as black metal😊
@@pookiebearv2859 Yep, those bands were influenced by Sodom is my point.

@@MrAaronbathory not all a band like parabellum and some other Latam bands were influenced by hardcore punk and early nwobhm Sodom came in mid 80s by then but they definitely influenced everyone in the scene

Fuck yeah! The first definitive Canadian Black Metal band. Before them was just a few thrash/speed metal bands that were on the verge but not quite there yet(Voor, Witches Hammer, Slaughter, etc.)

I keep coming back to this. Rauta done brought us a legendary interview!
Glad you like it!
Following this Channel since the early days and i always was so astonished how fast it grew seeing bigger bands and most importantly cult bands and "uneasy" bands (who are not all known for doing interviews) talking and hang around. Trvly impressive Jerry 🤘🏾

These guys are so humble and down to earth, while some other bands that have been around for only a few years and play rockstars. Thank you Jerry for this great interview. I could sit and listen to them for days. Cheers!

Love these guys. From a northern British Columbia community called Prince George and always proud to mention Blasphemy as western Canadian metal icons. Even checked out Ross Bay cemetery when I had the chance because of them. There was so much mystique surrounding these guys growing up its so cool to hear them speak on a podcast here and there. Thanks Rauta! Im a half Finn and need to check out the old country one day and some good shows!
Cheers!
Hell yeah. Not many metal bands out this way, especially in northern BC (I'm in McBride). These guys are local(ish) legends for sure!
Do you know of Gyibaaw? They're the only metal band from PG that I've heard.
Cheers 🤘🤘
@@psychicvacuum555 oh right on! Ive been through McBride and used to know a relative of the Rich Boyz towing company out there if you know em haha.
Yes! Havent seen Gyibaaw in several years but used to be a regular in our scene here. I'll admit ive fallen out of touch with a lot of our local bands. Life gets busier as you get older haha. These days i'll leave town to see a larger show now and then.
They fucking ruled in Bangkok a few years back. Great dudes and still underground as fukk. Legendary band.

AMAZING interview. This is by far the best BM channel when it comes to interviews, in my humble opinion. Impressive.
Thank you, sir. Glad you like it. However I don't strictly limit myself to black metal nor even call Blasphemy pureblood black metal.

Legendary! I remember buying 'Fallen Angel Of Doom'at a small local recordstore back in the early 90's. I was overwhelmed by such hard and harsh sound! Still an album to get used too. Which is fine with me.
“Are you one of the Blood Chalice guys” 😂
Fuck that was a trip for sure, thanks for making this one. Definitely going into vaults of cult video recordings defining the genre.
💪
Legendary workouts with blasphemy and angelcorpse.

Well done Sir ! I salute you for this interview. Thank you !
💪
I always thought of blasphemy of being like a black metal cro mags, just because of their size etc, both bands were influential to me in different ways. I remember seeing a picture of them and thinking that, I wasn't into the Norwegian aesthetic or lifestyle but loved the music.
Cro-mags is a cool reference, I liken them to Impaled Nazarene a lot haha because of the imagery. Very awesome unique bands. Im pretty sure Blasphemy guys are Cro-mags fans too.
As always, nice interview! Though I was laughing a bit at your remark about no one in the nordic scene being interested in healthy lifestyle in the 90's, when the guy just talked about tren and other sh1t and "eating steroids for breakfast". I know you were referring to the lifting part, not necessarily to juicing, but at that moment it was pretty hilarious. 😄
Yeah, a bit of irony there 😀💪
That wos great interview!!
Thank you 💪

@@RobHellfire666 Drugs probably. People I used to hang with that shall remain unnamed used to party hard with these dudes back in the day. I think maybe years twisted on drugs and working and traveling has taken its toll. I might be completely full of shit though.
@@ancestralspirits521
The "traveling, drugs, etc etc thing is a possibility but honestly I don't think that's it..
I seriously think it's that Black winds just doesn't give a F.
He does exactly what he wants, when he wants..
He's intelligent and street smart, and still a huge guy.
He doesn't have to cave to anyone, ever.
And he knows it.. 😎
As far as the "leaning back, looking up" thing goes, there is a story to that, and a reason he does it (I've been told) but I'm not privy to that kind of information..
But,
It's intentional and purposeful. 😎
@RobHellfire666 I think we all were handed one drink before the interview and my first one wss some almost empty one before we started.

Great interview! BW is such a character, and Caller is much mellower than I expected.
Great guys both! Was truly good times with them. 💪
Been a big fan of Blasphemy for a long time. Never have seen the band live and likely never will, as they can't get into the U.S. apparently. Maybe I will be able to afford to travel elsewhere and catch a show at the same time, but that isn't likely at this time. One more studio album from Blasphemy would be cool, but I imagine it is a daunting thing from the band's perspective since Fallen Angel, Gods of War, and the Blood Upon the Altar demo have been this body of work for decades now. A new album would most likely get the "yeah, I guess it's okay, but the demo is where it's at" response. To be fair, the Blood Upon the Altar demo is one of the best metal demos of all-time, in my opinion. I would also like to see Caller of the Storms interviewed by himself. I am curious if he still has that Ibanez from the Fallen Angel days.
Damn, you're unlucky with them then I guess, since we have had Blasphemy in Fiinland past 15 years like 3 times. Regardng Caller interview, I don't know if it would happen since bands pretty much decide themselves how they want to do it.
One of my all time favorites
