as someone who has "Ghost Reveries" tattoo'd across their back, i thank you for this masterful amalgamation of my NES childhood and progressive death metal all in one, seriously, Thank You
in retrospect a lot of heavy metal bands in the 80's could have made a fortune converting their songs to 8 bit and selling them to nintendo, i mean, have you heard rain in blood 8 bit, its pure awesome
Thank you for sharing this important piece of information, everyone can benefit from more authentic distorted 8-bit sound Most people never think to turn quality down
I love this song....and i cant believe it...but it almost sounds better like this. Could be the nostalgic nerd in me...idk. Love it though! Glad you posted it!
GHOOOST OOOOF MOOOOTHEERR, LINGERING DEEAAAAAAATH. GHOST ON MOTHER'S BEEEEEEEEEEED. BLACK STRANDS OOOON THE PILLOOOOOW CONTOUR OF HER HEEAAAALTH. TWISTED FACE UPON THE HEEEEEEEAAAAAAAD. GHOST OOOOOF PERDITIIOOOOON STUCK IN HER CHEEEEST. A WARNING NO ONE REEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAD. TRAAAGIIIIC FRIENDSHIIIIP CALLED INSIDE THE FOOOOG, POURING VENOM BREW, DECEEEEEEIIIVIIIIIIIIIING.
This version gave me a great idea: somebody needs to upload a harp cover of the acoustic part! It would be fucking beautiful. I wonder how many RUclipsrs actually own a harp? lol not many I'd assume. On a side note, I wanna do a ytpmv of this song when I get a little better at pooping. Any suggestions for sources? XD
I don't really find. A lot of people associate metal in general with Castlevania but it takes a certain kind of classic gothic style to match Castlevania. This definitely could have been the soundtrack for an epic adventure game though.

I love it. This would really suit a horror rpg or pixel horror game. as a castle theme or something :D
Castlevania would be a perfect fit for this music!
why does every single 8-bit version of metal songs always sounds like rpg music to me?
petrifier .r, because its 8-bit
Because Opeth are sooooo atmospherical, plus 8-bit songs give you a sense of nostalgia and here's explained the RPG-game thing.
because most rpg song composed with the mind of classical music.
LAST BOSS! PREPARE TO DIE!

Proof that Opeth would have been a KILLER Doom soundtrack.
4:18 +++ OWNS SO HARD ITS SO GOOOD!
Interestingly enough, if you turn the quality down to 240p, it sounds even more like the 8-bit music you remember from your NES.
EPIC!
@dragon2712 Yeaa!! HELL YEAH with a wave of zombies and every type of monster there in doom one room and this song is played xD
@dragon2712 That would have been so cool, but then Opeth would be a videogame coverband :P.
wow..................................
reminds me of every good old game rolled into one song
all the 8-bit Opeth I've heard makes me think of Castlevania, even Windowpane.
Absolutely awesome...you should try Opeth's Lotus Eater...
-:D
Amazing :D Love it!
This should totaly have been used in a gameboy game!!
4:49 ... mind blown

Sounds like a ringtone, don't it?
yeah! super mario! ;D
Did you use some sort of converter? I'd like to listen to this 8-bit version from a player.
thats some castlevania shit
sounds like a ghost/dark type gym leader in pokemon
I Would say: "PONG of Perdition" xDDD
Fucking Brillant.
This was damn near perfect but I was hugely disappointed with the outro :( It's way more powerful than just one note! Oh well, great job anyway.
god why wasn't this in castlevania =D
at like 2:40 it reminded me of FF7
lol oh shit
I want a 16-Bit Version.
castlevania!
@dragon2712 HOLY SHIT i was just thinking the same thing
5:01
i request that you do wolves in the throneroom on 8bit
Would be more awesome with singing :D
how to download mids like this?
This song is more Legend of Zelda or Castlevania style than overrated Super Mario.
I was going to open this to say that 8 bit versions of songs are gay and annoying.
But I heard the first two chords and I like it actually.
