As somebody who is old enough to have seen Black Sabbath as a teen in 1972, Opeth are the first band that I became to appreciate growl/harsh vocals. This transition in broadening my music tastes occurred via the Deliverance/Damnation albums. They drew me in with the prog and then hit me in the head with the heavy stuff. Love this band, so unique.
This is the first tune I heard by Opeth. I picked up Ghost Reveries because of Steven Wilson's involvement (I'm a huge Porcupine Tree fan), put it on and it blew my mind. Opened my ears to hearing the harsh vocals. We're of similar age, you and I; my tastes run from folk through bluegrass, jazz and on to hard rock, but Opeth was a revelation.
@@underwoodvoice9077 Steven Wilson weren't involved in Ghost Reveries, but on the earlier mentioned Damnation/Deliverance albums. Great song and album never the less!
@@kalas-kurt Yeah, thanks for the correction, I misspoke there. I heard about Wilson's involvement with the band, and Ghost Reveries was the current album at the time. And a great song and album indeed!
Best band ever period. No one can match their musicality, riffs, stage presence, live sound, songwriting. Never heard anything like it, and I've listened to just about everything.
My first time hearing about Opeth was at a Mastadon show. Opeth opened for Mastadon. I was completely blown away and ashamed that I had never heard about them or listened to their music. Ghost of Perdition was the song that brought me back after the show. My brain just couldn’t let that experience slide and I had to hear it again.
No one can listen to this and think it's not a masterpiece, unless they can't hear the layers of incredible sound and precision without being overly technical creating such an organic mixture of so many elements.
@@aaronramirez9147 what do you mean? Those growls??? He's actually pulling those off. Like it's possible to do healthily. He's using his vestibular folds and a lot of breath control to make that distorted growling sound.
I think it's the best Opeth Live so far. Beyond the setlist or what Mikael does not yet reach the depth in the growls, as before, the execution in the voices is impeccable, as well as the mix of the sound, it is incredible. In addition the second voices that Joakim does give much more brilliance to the album.
He's getting there. Noticed recently that the live growls are becoming a lot more sinister again and I would love to see him doing it on the next album. Not often, that's not the direction they are going, but definitely sometimes.
Just gived Opeth a deep dive in, wow man, i was missing so much! But on the other hand now i have their whole opus to enjoy and discover, what a band, i'm stunned.
I listen to thrash and a lot of instrumentalist like Steve Vai David T. Chastain, then sometimes you just gotta put on Opeth and remind yourself these guys are on another level.
I was a tattooist- I quit that job many years ago... But tattooing that letter O of the Opeth logo was a great experience itself... I did 2 or 3 of them+ couple of smaller and simplier versions for a young couple for their engagement🙂 It has been a long time, but this particular subject coming to my career as a tattooist is giving me deep and priceless memories🔝
I remember how much people hated this album when it came out in 2005. All because they had a video on MTV/VH1 and how it wasn't Blackwater Park and it wasn't Deliverance. Its been a masterpiece since day 1, still my favorite to this day.
This sounds so incredible!! Huge fan of the original studio recording, but the mixing on this and videography makes this really special. And the lighting design is gorgeous.
