They may not be able to bring charges due to their agreement. If they can/do bring charges, the State of AL and their Supreme Court is run by bigots and the GOP.

Unless you propose to further deny the people of that town their voting rights, by cancelling the next election. But seriously, the former mayor and council need to spend a few decades in prison. What they did amounts to a coup. Also, any private entity or person who cooperated with these thugs in their capacity of ‘town government’ also ought to face prison time. For example, if these criminals who disabled the incoming mayor from accessing town accounts retained control of those accounts, and made any transactions using those accounts, then the bank and the people who work there should be held accountable if they were in any way aware of the actual election outcome.

I remember this issue back when it first happened. I didn't know that the white outgoing mayor in all 60 years appointed another white successor. There's a couple interviews out there with town residents. They didn't know they were allowed to have elections. For anything. FYI, the 2 townspeople were white. But there are videos on RUclips that go much more in-depth on this, including on this channel, Democracy Docket.
The "Equal Protection Under the Laws" clause in Section 1 of the 14th Amendment, SPECIFICALLY applies to States as a result of the Civil War.

In this day and age! omg ... I'm a Canadian, raised by immigrants from 2 different countries. If I EVER said anything racist, growing up, my dad would have hit me and my mother wouldn't stop with the guilt trips until you were sobbing. Even THINKING about it, feels wrong. And, I'm past 60 years, now. THAT's how you raise your kids! You stand up for those unfairly treated, you don't add to the burden.

My company is headquarted in AL. I work in technology and the talent pool in AL is spread so thin, that me and most of my co-workers are remote - all living outstide of the state. It's 2024 and this is the crap that goes on. The politics of this state, from the governor on down are reminiscent of the Old South. There are no major attractions outside of the Space Center, no professional sports, unless you like racing ... nothing that makes people say, "Let's move to Alabama!" It's a beautiful place to ride through and enjoy the natural aspects, but living there is a hard no, for me anyway.
