  • Hey Parents! A kids protective twists hairstyle was my go-to style when I was just learning to do my daughter's hair. If your little one has natural hair it's important to keep it in a protective style. Protective twists are perfect and adorable! As an adoptive parent and a previous foster mama, I remember not knowing much about black hair when my kids first came to me. With lots of help from friends, fellow foster moms, and youtube I got better and better. I hope this video and my others help you learn to care for your little ones' crown. Haircare is so important in the black community. You will help your child gain confidence and it will build a special bond between you all. Check out my other hair videos for more inspo! As a social worker, I’ve seen Black children with non Black foster/adoptive parents a lot. When I’d try to offer advice and even help with their Black children’s hair, a lot of them would either get offended or shy away from my offers instead of considering how much hair affects a child’s comfort levels, confidence, & self esteem. The fact that this momma has researched info on her daughter’s hair care and put her ego aside to make sure the child’s hair stays neat and healthy is SO WHOLESOME.

Especially an African American woman’s hair. It means everything. Not saying it doesn’t to white ladies but it’s more than just hair. It’s a whole culture. And for her to embrace it and listen to others and perfect it. That’s what real love looks like.

@@ChristyGior8 I love this! Especially coming from the foster care system and growing up without anyone showing me how to do my own hair (and literally it wouldn't have been that hard) and knowing how much their hair means to my black friends, it just feels like such a powerful and positive message to put out. Also I really just love the positive conversations being generated in your comments and the community you're building.

This young lady will grow up loving every race because of this wonderful example in her mother. This needs to go viral, we need to show everyone how this is done through this RUclips video , no matter what race combination is being represented! This whole video was awesome, the love, the time, the patience, the learning, it was all great the fact that you took out the time to learn what to do and how to do your daughter hair is just awesome from the products used to what type of equipment like the detangler brush, I must say I’m in ahhh, I’m a hairstylist of 30 years and as a stylist I get a lot of young girl who are adopted or there natural parent is of another nationality and they can’t do their hair because it is a major difference or they just can’t do there hair period, so the fact that you took the time out to find out just what and how to do there hair and not cut it all off, and then you did a nice time consuming style and not just two ponytails, I must say I’m speechless and I take my hat off to you and I say thank you 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

She will be telling her future generations how much time she and her mom spent in hair care when she does the same for them that mom did for her, and they will tell their offsprings and do the same and so on. I watched this video through another RUclipsrs reaction video (it was very positive), but had to come here to share how much I appreciate this. The WHOLE this, not just this video. It’s very evident how much you love your daughter and how selfless you are how you express your love. I’m biracial with very curly hair that my Korean mom celebrated. All of the loving words you share with your daughter, both about her hair and to her, are foundational to her self esteem and how she’ll shine in the world.
Also, what great tips!! Rotating styles so there’s not repeated strain in the same areas of the scalp - genius! I didn’t even consider that for myself.

You will know if you have braided or a band is to tight and if her scalp is puffed it's to tight and will cause her to have a headache. And take a tutorial and learn how to french braid. It's fun with great looks for the hair. Much Love💞💞

Yes this! Trust me any girls who come to you will be grateful for knowing anything! Growing up I had biracial or adopted friends who's mom's would take them to salons to get their hair done but the hair stylists wouldn't know how to work with it and would be either too intimidated or would mess up the hair. I think all cosmetology schools should have programs focusing on this! No woman should be turned down at a salon because of the texture of her hair!

I'm older, a child of the 70's and this brought back memories. All of my black friends' hair was always done. And I was there a few times when their moms did their hair and I remember it was like an event almost. Nowadays I'd call it girl time. I always envied them. Their moms took the time to make sure they looked good. And their hair always stayed put! I Don't remember them ever having a bad hair day, no matter how much we ran around. Thanks for sharing.
