Thank you for sharing this. I have several large ones from my garden to dehydrate, so i wanted to see this! I grew mine on containers and trellised them along my fence. I got huge ones. I did use my own compost and good soil..i have had several garden fails, but these worked this year. Hope you try again! Each year is different! Thanks again!! I'm going with your plan to keep as much of our garden harvest as possible. I don't mind sharing a little, but I agree with you when it comes to the water bill, and the effort, it's nice to have something to show for it in the middle of winter. This video and Rehydrating Food for Soup has been a great help to me. I'm fairly new to dehydrating. I've been keepiing my Excaliber busy, as well as canniing and freeezing other garden produce. Of course, I know what to do with the canned & frozen foods, as far as preparation goes, but I haven't really felt confident enough to feel that the dehydrated foods will actually rehydrate to taste good. Thanks!
I love dehydrating and to save on plastic bags I use canning jars and a food saver with the jar attachment to take the oxygen out of the jar. works like a charm... and will last for years (if it lasts that long)
How do you like your Cocori? I have it on my wish list. I just haven't made the sacrifice yet to purchase it. I have not heard anybody say anything other than what I saw in reviews.
Linda I checked on BexarPrepper channel and I baked it for an hour and a half. Also I put the shredded squash in my salad spinner and got out A LOT of liquid I used my small spinner and done half at a time. I didn't see this done in your comments. Hope it helps.
I need to change my thinking and look at winter foods to what I can now dehydrate. I will definitely try to do squash. :) I LOVE my Excalibur - I use it to not only dehydrate but to let dough rise, make yogurt, kept side dishes warm for the holiday.....multi use appliance. I have you to thank for getting me interested in the 1st place. :)
Those things microwave as well as they bake. You can either poke a bunch of holes in them or cut them in half and turn cut side down on a plate. I think it's about 8 minutes.

Hey Linda don't throw out those squash the chickens love them and it's great recreation for when they get bored. Also I noticed you tossed the broken bits of squash which you could rehydrate them for chicken food or throw them into the dogs food when you mix it up. Every little bit helps and in a SHTF situation we need every little bit so practice now for we never know when things will happen. Have a happy day

Instead of cutting them links wise and baking them, you can always cut them in 1-2 inch thicknesses, so they create like a ring and dehydrated that way.
Hi Linda, may I take a moment and ask two questions? 1) When you put your veggies in Mason Jars and use a oxygen absorber do you vacuum seal the jars? 2) I ordered two packs of oxygen absorbers and they came vacuumed sealed, so do I have to keep the absorbers vacuumed sealed too? Don't know if anybody responded to your question about the oxygen absorbers being vacuumed sealed. Yes they do but it's easy. Place them in an old store bought jelly jar. Then use a jar vacuum sealer to finish it up. God bless you in all your endeavors.

I use a lot of spaghetti squash as spaghetti to cut down on pasta when it's in season. How would you do this set the portions for this meal if everything were dehydrated? The only thing I haven't seen you dehydrate yet that i use in my sauce is spinach.

Linda, did you precook the mushrooms at all? I dehydrated mushrooms cut like yours, and wow, my house smelled so awful like dirt, it was horrid! any suggestions would be grand! thanks
You do not want to blanch them or precook them. You could rinse them off to be sure you got any dirt that may have been on them off. And really check your date Cos 1 time. Thinking that oh, this was a good deal because they were about to expire. I experienced the same thing you did, it was awful. They were very nice and firm like they should have. But still, the dehydrating just was awful. Also do not use frozen mushrooms it is nothing but a mess. Now, if you freeze-dried them, it might have been OK. It would've dehydrated faster with them being pre frozen.

I froze my mushrooms and when I go to use them, they’re very tough when you dehydrate your mushrooms. Do they get tough for you?
