I remember when they played at my high school some 21/22 years ago and my art teacher knew I was a bluegrass fan and let me set up an easel in the auditorium while the band set up and did sound check. I got to meet them all by myself and have been a huge fan ever since.
Three exceptionally gifted musicians don´t have to be an arresting band when they play together. But Nickel Creek are. Their music is a special gift for me, thanks for this :)
Chris Thile, is one of the hardest working men in show business. He's got to be on the move 😂❤🎉 Sara Watkins and Sean Watkins are also fine musicians. I'm with her 🎉🎉🎉
I saw them in 2005 at a small venue in Ohio. The previous year, they sold out major arenas, but we were fortunate enough to get 2nd row center. We had a very small outdoor crowd, and NC was DEFINITELY all about the music, no fluff or pomp. Oh yeah, the seats were for $10 donations going to the local arts council. Best time EVER!
I remember seeing Nickle Creek when I went to a bluegrass festival in Kansas with my family when I was really young. It was either 1997 or 1998, before they got really popular.
I just saw your comment and freaked. I have been wanting to see them for so long and they are sold out here in Chicago. I am so angry I feel like ripping my cloths off and running down the street crying and scream "NICKEL CREEK IS SOLD OUT!!!! WHY??? WHY???"
Pay close attention here boys & girls; it takes real talant to play a real instrument. These three young people have talant dripping off of them, and they sing really well too. The whole package, and Sarah is way cute!
Great stuff, classic , thanks so much for posting. Seeing NC back in the This Side tour completely changed my musical life and playing style. Unexpectedly meeting them and having a good banter in the car park after their show was added an priceless bonus.
I don't know why. But I am glad there is a place in this world for both Nickel Creek and Lady Gaga, I love both. I play bluegrass in a group and I couldn't care less about being popular. This kind of music isn't about being flash. Anyway, Nickel Creek disbanded. That's a bummer for all of us.
I just feel the need to point out that, while I'm not personally a fan of the Jonas Brothers, they DO in fact write most of their own songs. Again, doesn't mean I actually like them, but you do have to give them props for at least being legitimate. And, yes, Nickel Creek music is FAR superior! :)
Oh my . . . years and years since I first heard this song, yet it still gives me chills. Also, my rock star crush on Sara Watkins has just rekindled . . .
I keep checking back periodically, but I'm never rewarded with the miracle news that they are back together! I'm very sad about that. BUT will forever remember I saw them in show once in Madison, WI!!!!
How is it people like this are not our pop stars and people like Lady Gaga are? These guys are SO talented, what does Lady Gaga have? A meat suit. America needs a high five. In the face. With a chair.
Fun to watch. Amazing how far their performance and playing came even from this album up to Why Should the Fire Die? And how far it continues to go now with Thile's Punch Brothers. Not that this performance is anything to complain about.
They are Great!! Glad to see they are still together. Except for listening to their past cds, i had kinda written them off, according to rumors but, you know how rumors are. Oh yeah, lets not forget who put them on the map in the beginning and produced their first 2 albums, my girl, Alison Krauss. The group was talented anyway but, im sure her many years in the industry and her ear and demand for perfection was a key. Plus, in the industry, her name, as producer, couldnt have hurt, lol.
Most music you hear comes from bands who largely imitate others. These 4 (and Scott is a major part of their sound) are the definition of innovatiors. Their sound was originated by them, proving occasionally a new age hippie raising can work.
Love Nickel Creek, hope for a reunion. You can catch Sara Watkins on Prairie Home Companion on public radio regularly check her and the program out. She is also a really nice person.
They're all doing their own solo things. I think mostly though because Chris (who admittedly is the most talented of the group) has been super busy with a handful of side projects. And yes, I too would pay an exorbitant amount of money to see them live again. They were easily one of the best live bands I've ever heard.
I agree erinae009. I question myself as to Gaga's popularity and find it sad seeing demeaning remarks on the web about Nicklecreek who write their own music, while the media and many people praise pop groups, like the Jonas Brothers, who don't (and perhaps cant) write one note of music or lyrics. On one good note, usually these company manufactured pop stars disappear as fast as they come up.
I totally agree with you. But the reason they were never big is, unfortunately, very simple. 1.) It's hard for country musicians (which Nickel Creek were) to crack into the main music scene. 2.) Nickel Creek is actually good, deep, thoughtful music. They're songs written for people who they know will love their music. Lady Gaga wrote music to make money and be famous.
Not marketable. they are all equals in the band. masters of their instruments and voice. You cant have that if you need a star. I love Nickel Creek and I feel blessed to have seen them play more than once! REUNION TOUR!!
@erinrae009 My thoughts exactly. Songs with lyrics like "Boom boom pow them chickens jacking my style" are chart-toppers and yet Nickel Creek remains shrouded in obscurity. Personally, I think the chair we're high-fiving them in the face with should be upgraded to a bench. Or perhaps a bleacher...
I just noticed you wrote this 9 months ago. I don't like the music that Lady Gaga does, but she is certainly one talented lady .... listen to her play piano, and sing live ....
Great song and performance! I just posted a note for note transcription video of Sean Watkin's break on this song on my channel. His guitar solo is killer!
King of mandolin
I remember when they played at my high school some 21/22 years ago and my art teacher knew I was a bluegrass fan and let me set up an easel in the auditorium while the band set up and did sound check. I got to meet them all by myself and have been a huge fan ever since.
Thats great!!!!
❤❤❤❤
I wanna see the picture
They were such babies!
I saw them as kids on stage in Escondido California and of the 15 bands that played their CD was the only one I bought out of their car.
that's awesome
My gosh, how could have missed this band for so many years? Going on my Pandora channel...right after the song is over. 😉
You’re in for a treat!

Agreed!
Once you get hooked, it won’t let go. You’ll cry, laugh, reminisce and think about past girlfriends. Life isn’t fair sometimes!
I just discovered this awesome group.
First song I ever heard them do, in about 2000 on Prairie Home Companion. Loved them ever since, separately and together.
Sarah has such a pretty voice in this song but of course they’re all incredibly talented.
Just saw Sara Watkins of Nickle Creek open for Mary Chapin Carpenter in Los Angeles. She was awesome! I enjoyed every song she did.
One of my favorite Nickel Creek songs. Great live performance. Thank you for posting.
Insane harmonies, saw them here in Madison, WI a few years back. Incredible.
Amazing, never knew they were on late night.
Chris Thile is one of the best living musicians.
indeed
If ya like Chris, check out some early 2000s Yonder Mountain String Band, SPECIFICALLY their first mandolin player/lead singer, JEFF AUSTIN!!!
Three exceptionally gifted musicians don´t have to be an arresting band when they play together. But Nickel Creek are. Their music is a special gift for me, thanks for this :)
Three?
Great group. Chris has never owned a comb and often had “ants in his pants”! Love em’
Chris Thile, is one of the hardest working men in show business. He's got to be on the move 😂❤🎉
Sara Watkins and Sean Watkins are also fine musicians.
I'm with her 🎉🎉🎉
This is so good, it almost sounds like it could be the acoustic version of another song
I got to see them at the Rococco Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska in 2006. They were And are so awesome!
Whoa! That solo trade-off between Sean and Chris was sick!
Derek Jones?

Early Creek! Thanks for posting this old gem. Will be seeing them soon in concert for the 1st time. Can't wait.
One of their best songs
Excellent....a masterpiece.
It’s hard to remember how badass these guys were from the very beginning.
I used to think just Chris was the superstar but realized there all exceptionally good.
I remember seeing Nickle Creek when I went to a bluegrass festival in Kansas with my family when I was really young. It was either 1997 or 1998, before they got really popular.
Great choice for a tune to play for that setting !
I saw them back in the early 90's in a little town just north of Las Vegas at a bluegrass festival they are superb, been lovin em since.
A pleasure to watch. :) It's lovely to see how much they're enjoying themselves. ^^
I missed them, can't believe the new cd and they are now back together. Sold out show here but I've seen them before.
I just saw your comment and freaked. I have been wanting to see them for so long and they are sold out here in Chicago. I am so angry I feel like ripping my cloths off and running down the street crying and scream "NICKEL CREEK IS SOLD OUT!!!! WHY??? WHY???"
Evan Drince They added more tour dates; check it out!
I LOVE this sound! They make me wanna pick up my mandolin and fiddle till dawn, so SEE YA!
lucky enough to see the Punch Brother a couple months ago 1st row center WOW
Pay close attention here boys & girls; it takes real talant to play a real instrument. These three young people have talant dripping off of them, and they sing really well too.
The whole package, and Sarah is way cute!
True talent, nurtured by years of practice and performing

You're kidding me, right? I LOVE this song! Thanks for posting it on youtube! I didn't even see it on tv! WOW!
Flawless.......
Absolute awesomeness 😃
Nice music for a change. With Hope and Love.
God I miss these guys......
Pure...so pure.
Really good stuff. Very underrated act.
Oh my, oh my. How I miss these guys.

I miss them so much, for people without a Nickel Creek fix, look up Punch Brothers, it's Chris Thile's band they're insanely good
Aahhh....sooo goood!
Love Nickel Creek, hope for a reunion. You can catch Sara Watkins on Prairie Home Companion on public radio regularly check her and the program out. She is also a really nice person.
Your wish came true.
thank you!!!

Sara is an amazing woman. I hope her husband treats her like the goddess she is
awesom tune
❤❤❤❤
Thile is just jamming on that mandolin

They don't play together much anymore, but they played for the Queen in Hyde Park Concert right before Lady Antebellum.
when ever there is chris thile it is okay.
truth is, they weren't all that accepted by the country music industry as they play bluegrass in a time that country has gone pop.
Super talented! Big fan!
Their Back !!! Just released a new album, "Dotted Line", at the end of 2014.
!!! great

Where can I get Chris' shirt
AAAHHHH!!!!!
It is because they are so talented and do not rely on crap like meat suits for the people who cannot appreciate REAL music!!
I just noticed you wrote this 9 months ago. I don't like the music that Lady Gaga does, but she is certainly one talented lady .... listen to her play piano, and sing live ....

Anemic
Leon’s producer wimped out on letting them have the 44 second instrumental- I’m guessing. Great nonetheless
would love to hear Nickel Creek team up with Jason Mraz.
Love the band. IMO they picked a bit of a snoozer of a song for national TV
Yeah, it is their best though. You could hear how nervous she was.
Hopefully they'll get back together Jim. The sum is greater than the parts. :-)
Except when Thile goes off and does something like Punch Brothers...
omg
I love this song I just wish they would have played ode to a butterfly to really show off there skills
I'm front row center balcony for their first night back at the Ryman. Hehhhhh B)
wHat yeaR was thiS?
Actually..... Lady Gaga is very talented, but so are these fine people.
thumbs up for Chris Thile
When they split up: the day bluegrass died.
Sarah appears to be nervous but she's wearing flip- flops
Is it me or did they sing this song slower
Lady WhoWho? These guys were more awesome than I think they realized. It's too bad the "music" world didn't appreciate them like their fans did.
quite simple, her music is more commercial that's it, aint no point getting pissed off at that, its always been like this
Gets no better...
