Possibly because he was black, and the white, snobbish classical music establishment at least at the subliminal level doesn't like accepting a black genius.
What a wonderful piece! The chords in the second and third section are so difficult to play correctly for me because my hand remains flat in some of them and changing to another chord becomes difficult. Have a great day Cory!
Does the Well Rounded piano offer any books / online classes to learn how to play Rags (techniques, strides, etc) e specifically for Joplin and the like ( not for Bach’s chorales)? I would love to explore playing mellow rags like this one but coming from classical music, these rags work with very defined left hand techniques so an online course would be great. By the way, I have many of your Bach scholar books and I love them.
I have some left-hand ragtime exercises on WRP as well as many "Super Slow" videos and some longer tutorials on ragtime. You should approach classic ragtime no differently than classical.
@@BachScholar thank you! I signed up again! It will be great to have access to the videos now that I am back again practicing your sight reading chorales and I am excited to look at the ragtime tutorials. :)
Excellent rendition!
somehow this rag is quite different than others. how im not sure. maybe its a little sad and wistful. You play it beautifully.
A "sad" piece in a major key.......Joplin was great at doing this.
The way it's meant to be played. Fabulous!
One of my favorites! So beautiful and highly underrated. I once wept while playing the third section because it is so majestic.
Why every piece of scott joplin is masterpiece in itself but still highly underrated?
