  • This video is a mix of various tasks including some continuation with the running board brackets. Audio for a couple of the clips isn't great as I forgot my microphone on the 2nd day! Hopefully you all enjoy! :)

    Really enjoyed watching the brake van restoration, brilliant series. Carl.

    Slow and steady progress. DO what you do as you do and don't worry about what the audience thinks. Parts, supplies, time, money, and access all factor into a remodel, whether a car or a brake van or a house. It won't always seem logical or following the right steps some want.

    At seven minutes in when you started to remove the "air Vents ? " a little tip always strike the nails/screws as if you are driving them in further . This will break the rust that is holding them in and then makes removal much easier .

    As others have said don't worry about format etc. It's all good to watch. One suggestion is to break long boring days of prep by doing a bit of finishing, however small. Painting is good for the soul and you cab stand back and feel you are getting somewhere

    Real time for small more difficult tasks, time lapse for long tasks that are repetitive, like your painting the step hangers 👍

    G'day! Loving the work you're doing, it's so good to see this kind of up close rail-preservation, and unlike restoring a loco they're rarely a need to wait for custom parts!
    If people thought that last week you were talking too much, then I think maybe this time you've gone too much the other way. This is your project! Your brake van! Hearing your thoughts, feelings and plans about it are really interesting!
    In term of timelapse vs realtime segments? I personally prefer seeing the start of end of each step of a process in real-time, with a sentence or two of description.
    Eg: *Shot of you with the hammer and the vent* "Now I'm not too sure how difficult this would be to get off, but what I'm going to try and do it lever it with the hammer" *Next 3-10s are real time, then the rest of the process is time lapsed until the final 3-10s before the vent comes off* "[Insert comment on the state of the vent, or the process of removing it]"
    But overall, this is your project. You're restoring this piece of rail history, and then taking the time and effort to preset it to us! Don't apologise because your forgot your microphone, or perhaps there was a delay between videos, you're showing this often unseen part of preservation for free!
    I really respect and appreciate what you do, and if anything it's inspiring me to get some hours up at Puffing Billy restoring some rolling stock.
    Have a good day mate!

      Extremely kind words, can't thank you enough, comments like this make me more motivated to show everyone what railways like this have to offer! The opportunity for content at this railway is endless thanks to the type of people who work & volunteer here making the experience very enjoyable and hopefully that shows in the videos!

    Enjoyed that... Now I don't know what constraints there are on the restoration, you time and money being the obvious, but I do feel the restoration is a tad disjointed. Starting lots of jobs all at once rather than completing each step of seeing that part through to the end, for example the stove could have been cleaned, treated, primed and painted as one episode (or two) and would be complete. Again, everyone works different and this is your project and I feel bad posting what might be seen as a negative comment, but like I said, I don't know how constraint your time and money is, so that could be one or both of the reasons... But, you have my respect, you listened to the comments and I for one appreciate that its nice to see a channel where the viewers opinions are taken onboard. I do love these videos, and appreciate you documenting the journey... so please don't take my comments harshly, it's just feedback as requested.

      @WardleRestorations  2 года назад

      Thank you for the feedback, it's the only way I can learn/improve! I completely hear you on the stove example, I just struggle to keep at one particular task for more than a couple of hours at a time, especially as I walk about and think 'oh that needs doing and so does that'. The railway isn't local to me either so I try and cram as much as I can into one day! I will try make a conscious effort to not leave things half finished but sometimes that's just the way it is. Either way I hope you understand my side of it and continue to enjoy the journey, I'm learning just as much as those watching, ha!

    Keep them as they are Ollie..they're fine. I like the "interlude" of the steamer running up and down. The audio without the mike was ok too. Great little series. All the best.

    Enjoyable video again Ollie. I can see Malcolm's points below about doing lots of jobs and not completing them. I do exactly the same when designing my laser kits, but you get to a stage where a change is as good as a rest and often keeps you on your toes if you have a more than one thing on the go, so I don't think there is a right or wrong way to be honest, so long as progression is made. Nowt wrong with the sound towards the end. Keep up the good work.
    Here's to episode 9.

      Absolutely, for some reason I struggle to do the same type of task for days on end so would rather do an hour of this, an hour of that just to keep myself interested! There are 100% some projects that require a bit more focus such as the roof but a lot of jobs I find I'm starting half way through the previous job!

    This series is awesome. A question though, why are you listening to the audience on how to make a vid? We are the last people to ask about formulas that work. Everything here worked for me except the missing assertive "this is what we are here to do" at the start. Let's say this. You are awesome. Trust your instincts. Do your thing.

    This episode woke me up some more. The saddle tank engine, looked like a J94 Austerity, grabbed my attention. Stick to the timelapse. I heard you just as clearly without your mic. Perhaps in the next episode, no. 9 (doctor's orders), you might be lucky enough to ride behind the saddle tank engine yourself. There's no beating that. Am I correct in thinking the saddle tank engine is a J94?😂

      It’s not a j94 kelly, it’s an austerity 0-6-0st

    Just keep doing what you've been doing I for one like the waffling on and the uninteresting bits as you would say, Michelle 78 said it earlier they are your videos so do what you want, you can't please everybody and it's probably only a minority who are moaning anyway. Also realtime is way better and can you make the vids an hour long? Don't dispose of your rust remover as it's reusable.

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  2 года назад

      I wish I could make them an hour long but editing would take forever, maybe a Christmas special 😂 Yeh I do have a couple more bits I could soak in that stuff to be fair!
