Looking good Ollie. Nice job on the clean up in the van. Watched this after spending the last few hours doing the same thing in my shed. Also happy to see I'm not the only one who paints something when the jobs half done just to see how it looks.
Ha well this is effectively a shed on wheels so not far off 😂 yeh I love seeing things with a splash of paint, just gives me some excitement for what it will look like once done!
I think even the most mundane tasks can add to the video - if they're super boring then you can timelapse them. If nothing else it's lovely to see the gradual change. When in the order of things to deal with are you going to get the duckets and boards below fitted to get the van weathertight?
Well currently no water is getting into the inside as roof has been sorted, the areas below the duckets can't be replaced until I can get 2 new duckets manufactured (which won't be cheap LOL), until then I will probably hand tarpaulin over the outside of it if any water does get in, hope you enjoyed the video
A series im glad i found on youtube 😁, who knew watching a Brakevan Restoration would be so good 😁😁😁
Ha! Honestly really appreciate the support dude!,
Glad you got the lamp gear, thanks for the mention , you are keeping me and my partner Diane entertained Olly. Great Vlog yet again.
Can't thank you enough for the lamp gear, so incredibly kind of you! Pleased you are enjoying the series, there is so much more to come!
Hi 👋🏻 your doing a fantastic job on a BR brake van that nobody else is doing 🤣 Keep the good work and videos up 🤩
I gotta say, i enjoyed this episode more than just seeing running shots of a run down brake van!
Cleaning up, painting, rust removing are all nice jobs we wanna see! There is a reason why pressure washing videos are so popular.
Anyway: Great job! Keep it up.
Hopefully won’t be a run down brake van for too much longer 😂😂
@@WardleRestorations Oh if you keep up the pace, it wont be! 😉
Just have to keep watching 👀😂
Keep the vids just as you are, it's the reason I'm watching, very interesting. Trouble is I want one now lol
Glad you like them, lol I am already eyeing up another wagon but keeping quiet about it for now!
Well if you need a hand... 😉
Colne Valley is always looking for new members!
hi, we had a brake van at southall railway centre in the 80s and repainted it when it was next to the main line, used bauxite paint and the wheels had a white trim which made it look like an early hornby brake van, looked good in the end. like a new toy.good luck with yours.
Cheers Peter!
Good progress Ollie and the inside is looking quite cosy . 😀
Cosy but in need of some work😂 hope you enjoyed!
It's fairly coming on Ollie. Just wish I wasn't so far away! Don't worry about the more 'tedious' tasks that are needed in this type of restoration, we'd watch paint dry if it's worth it and seeing a restoration first hand is a joy. The Charcoal grey might need a touch of white to lighten it up, if you can't get the colours bob-on.(Check with a car body bashers and painters for the 'right colour' if needs be. They mix paints by weight). I hope the roof end sills don't take too much to prepare. Getting the brackets for the new runner boards painted will keep them smart. Great stuff. All the best with the works and all and see you next week(at least) for the Quiz night! I'll be in touch(that Discord pings quite a lot so no bother there) and here's to some more good weather for ya, mate. Keep safe and Keep warm. Cheers!
Hopefully most the cold weather has passed but the wind is worse than ever at the moment! Yeh can’t wait to have the correct shade of grey, going to look great!
'So, you bought a BR 20T Brake Van to restore, here's what happens next!'
Enjoying this series of videos and means we can follow along with your restoration while learning about all the different aspects and what's involved. Keep up the fantastic work 👍
Glad you're enjoying, just trying to keep the content as interesting as possible, not sure how many times people will want to watch me paint etc, appreciate the support!
Another enjoyable diarie Ollie. Liked the way you put in the shots of the d.m.u too.All the best.
Glad you enjoyed it Tim, anything I can do to improve videos? always trying to make them better!
Wonderful brake van
Cheers Mels :)
Another great update
Thank you Barrie!
wonderful video Wardle Road
Many thanks mels!
great to see the progress it's coming on well
Cheers! :)
Keep going its all interesting
That's it! We've now got video footage of you lying down on the job!! - - That 'charcoal grey' looks like very dark green on my monitor!
LOL! Yeh it was a quite green in person too which is annoying as looking at it now it was nowhere near the colour specified on the website but I had to put something on the metal to stop it getting ruined in the weather!
More progress being made and enjoyed that one. Keep up the good work.
Appreciate the support Steve, anything you think I can do to improve the videos from a viewers point of view?
@@WardleRestorations 20 minutes is ideal, not too shot and not too long. Keep doing what ya doing.
Yeh 20 mins doesn’t take forever to edit either which is good😂 cheers!
Our Andrew Barclay 2199 victory was restored at the colne valley and the engineer told me the owner removed all the rust and paint off with an angle grinder and bevcause of that, even now painted it’s mucked up thag side of the body work leaving it all bumpy
Luckily I havnt had that issue (yet) but if they do get ruined, it’s only 2 metal plates and not a whole loco!
Just keep up the good work!
Your productions very good, music's cool, unlike most rail programmes on RUclips!
Dude, why not do what I do and bag up some of that rust dust to use for weathering models, it's surprising how many different shades you get just from restoring a 70yr old vw!
I would but I have a million weathering powders already, not sure what the other half would think if I started bringing home bags of rust 😂😂 glad you’re enjoying the videos mate!
What will you use to cover the hole in the wall? I've had a DMU ride today on the Llangollen Railway. When Easter Weekend comes I'll be riding behind a steamy newcomer: GWR 0-6-2 Tank Engine no. 5619.
Tongue and groove boards will fit below the duckets but no point replacing them until I have new duckets to go in!
This not less interesting stuff. It's great to watch.
Glad you enjoyed the episode mate 🙂
Thoroughly enjoying these videos, with the format if you changed it up slightly brief run down of the plan for the day then a clip of one piece of work then cut to the end briefly explain what you did then move onto the next task and repeat then at the end a quick rundown of how the day went what you are planning to do next video
Yeh I tend to repeat myself a lot without realising it! Will try cut down on the talking in the next one, sometimes hard to find the balance! Hopefully you're enjoying the series so far though! :)
@@WardleRestorations definitely enjoying it so far, definitely not an easy thing to do putting yourself in front of a camera not saying I’d be able to do any better
I have to do some bits so many times as I get tongue twisted very easily!
Can anyone explain why the upper lamp brackets are a different angle to the lower central bracket please. ... Were lamps a standard design, and if so how they fitted on the brackets ? ... I can't seem to find a logical answer - which is probably such a simple one. ... Thank you.
The lamp brackets on the side hold the same lamps but at the same angle but the bracket is mounted on the side of the lamp instead of the back, they were used so drivers could see the end of their train!
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I would love to see more of the actual work being done than listening to what you are going to do, and then have you repeat it after you did it. I would much rather watch a time lapse of you removing parts, clearing the rust, treating the parts and then painting them than just being told that's whats going to happen and then a jump cut when the tasks have been completed and then have you telling us that is done. For me, and I say this with all due respect, there is too much talking, and not enough action. You say you wont bore us with what you class as mundane tasks, but that's what we're here for.. The time laps in the episode where you sorted out the roof was fantastic, can we have more like that please. As I said, please don't take this comment negatively... hopefully look upon it as being constructive rather than negative criticism
No I really do appreciate the feedback, like I said in the videos its always good to find ways that I can improve the content to keep as many viewers enjoying it as possible! So in summary, less talking, more doing? Sometimes its hard to capture everything as I'm doing a lot of it solo so forget to get the camera out! Will try next time to go into more detail about what I'm doing so keep an eye out for the next video and let me know if there's an improvement!
@@WardleRestorations any chance you could borrow Eric's head mounted gopro or a chest mount it would be cool to see you working from your point of view but if not that's fine 👍
