I think I can speak for everyone viewing....don't worry about the videos being boring. They truly aren't. Most of us haven't got a brake van to restore so every detail is great to watch
Appreciate it, I just ramble without realising 😂
Agreed!
The underside, inward facing edges and contact points with the brackets (maybe even through the bolt holes too) all want at least 1 coat of paint on the scaffold planks.
Currently you’ve got paint only on the top and outward facing sides, but those are the two places where moisture won’t be sat for long periods. It’ll get in, under and behind those running boards and stay there.
I’d unbolt them, whip them off and cover the whole piece, so that there’s no “bare wood” colour visible - I know it’s treated, but paint lasts longer.
Just friendly advice.
Totally agree, often it's easier to apply the protective coatings to the boards before fitting them. Especially as rounding over the edges has exposed untreated wood, and you are now reliant on just the paint keeping the moisture out.
As for the videos being boring - far from it. Besides if anyone thinks you are waffling they can either play the video at 2x speed or just jump ahead to the time lapse. Its your channel, your content.
Yeh this will be done at some point don’t worry! I need to take them off anyway to sort some of the under frame and axle boxes!
Evening Buddy. Don’t worry about your video content as what your doing is saving out railway history 👍🏻 That’s a fantastic job you’re doing on the BR brake van 🤩 How I remember one on the back of nearly ever freight train I saw in the 70s and never thought they’re disappear one day 🙄 So well done fur saving one 😀
What an awesome episode, absolutely loved seeing the progress in this one (especially all of the painting scenes)! That class 121 is a brute, love the sound of it going by. Can’t wait for the next one, mate!
Glad you enjoyed it! Really appreciate the donation too, all goes towards the brake van and future projects on the channel!
You are doing a fantastic job. Really enjoyed watching nice to have trains operating while working. Looking forward to next update.
Thank you very much! Will try and get more running shots as and when I can!
Here's a tip. That concrete you are using is a very expensive way of doing it. Buy bags of sharp sand and a bag of cement. Far far cheap. You are effectively laying a screed. It well set better and far less likely to crack round the edges
Yeah i made a lot of my garden railway platforms with that method. Although one started to crack but I think that's because I put too much sand in it 😅
I was advised to steer clear of cement as it’s more lightly to crack than super strong concrete!
@@WardleRestorations You can't use cement on its own, I guess you've never done any building work before. But mixing it yourself with sharp sand (and gravel if you don't need fine finish) is much much cheaper and will give better result
Another tip from boats....mix some sand with the paint on running boards to give a non slip finish
The episodes are brilliant awaiting next one not boring at all
Glad you think so, shouldn't be too long until the next episode!
Wonderful video
Thanks Great video Ollie!
Glad you liked it & a huge thank you for the donation Flymo!!
Man, you need a cordless drill with a wire brush attachment asap.
great update
Thanks Luke!
This guy must be loaded with all the projects he has done over the last 5 years and got his own home. OO scale N scale O scale 5 inch scale. Every cordless tool you can think of. Paint strippers and rust remover and now a scaffold tower. His Girlfriend must be very understanding as mine would cut ✂️ my knackers off.
I wish that was the case, its just OO and 1:1 gauge for the moment! My other half is very understanding lol
wonderful video
Thank you Mels!
It is hard work, and I do agree with KB Gaming, got to protect the unseen sides, but you are doing a great job! Really enjoying this series!
Yeh I will address the undersides of the running boards in an upcoming video at some point! Glad you enjoyed mate!
Hey Ollie great content again, take care and stay safe. :) :) :)
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed and again thanks for the 'super thanks'!
Thanks
Thank you fo the donation Colin, extremely kind of you!
Is there no end to your talents?!!. Another enjoyable episode Ollie. If you dont mind me asking....Whats the condition of the wheels? ..and the brake blocks etc,.? All the best.
I plan to do a whole episode on wheels and brake blocks once I have it over the pit so I'll go into more detail about them then if you don't mind waiting! Glad you enjoyed though Tim, the kind words are much appreciated!
Another great instalment keep them coming, David
David?
@@hamshackleton yes, what can I do for you ?
@@mosherlad Who is David? The vid and brake van are Ollie's!
@@hamshackleton I’m david
@@mosherlad Oh, I see, you were signing your name, not speaking TO David! :-)
The veranda is looking good, but if you add an extra inch or two inches of concrete, it will crack and break up, so why not put new floor boards / planking over the top or even a single sheet of marine plywood ?
Why would concrete crack when half the brake van underneath is concrete and the slabs at each end are concrete?
if you not taking your bolts out again. use a disc cutter to take the ends off. Save you getting hole in the head if you have to work nearby.
I'll 100% be doing this however they do need to come off a couple more times before they are left in place 'for a while'. Hope you enjoyed!
@@WardleRestorations Hi there trying to get down to see what you all achieving there next year now retired.
Fantastic! 😃
Interesting choice of shunting loco for the 43, lol. Just wondering are you hoping to get it into a running condition (so it looks presentable to run) or do you hope to get it in a pristine condition so it looks brand new ?
The plan is to get it to a presentable condition, which is still plenty of work, don't want it to look too new and then lose its historic feel haha
I just love trains
Who doesn't!
@@WardleRestorations uh I know who doesn't like trains!?
New subscriber here, interesting videos 😊 what railway do you volunteer on?
Colne Valley railway, worth a visit!
@@WardleRestorations I'll check it out 😁
Catch you on the Jenny chat at 7pm.
Cheers :))
who would of thought a 121 would ever shunt a hst power car around hey, i never realised you where rounding the corners on the boards, but makes sense, that did not feel like a 21 minute video, wont be long till you tart adding paint on the main body by the looks of things
I have the paint already, just lots to do before then, I try to not make the videos too long incase people get bored half way through haha
Sorry, Ollie. I can't donate anything to your channel. I've pre-ordered Hinton Manor in BR Black of Dapol status from Hattons. She costs £140.72 and is expected to be on shelf in June next month, so until my payment has gone through, there will be no wheel-spin from me for a long time. Keep at the good work.
Hi Kelly, you have spun the wheel (and won) more than enough! Theres no obligation to donate, hopefully you enjoyed the episode and I'll see you in the next one!
Does the Class 121 have a buckeye then?
Why would it need a buckeye?
@@WardleRestorations because the silver bar that comes out of the coupler hatch of the HST has a buckeye on the end
It doesn’t 👍
@@WardleRestorations what Coupling does the bar have on the end? I always thought it was buckeye?
@@jackhstproductions649 looks to me like the end that attaches to the DMU just hooks over the drawhook
