    Also a major issue with these models is the brake lines. The lines tend to rust out frequently. GM did not use stainless steel lines.

      Yep. The lines corrode as they run up the inside the frame at the wheel wells.

    Picked up an 03 extended cab 4x4 with 165k miles with a leaking hydro booster. It’s just one simple seal but boy it’s a pain to get the bolts from inside the cab. Gas line rusted at the connection under driver side- not all line just at the connection, weird. Upper control arms rubber gone to hell. Strong engine but new spark plugs desperately needed, old ones formed a ball at the end due to gap widened creating hot sparks. It had a slipping first gear shift to second, I did a valve body mod with Superior shift kit and a TCC sonnax valve with ptfe o ring, flushed 4gal of fluids. Transmission is now strong and shift nicely. Rear differential was screeching at startup, new gear oil fixed the issue.

    Yeah I bought a 2004 2500HD 6.0 in March of this year and last week after driving 78mph for 150 miles on I 40 I pulled into a store parking lot, went shopping with my 11 yr old daughter and we hopped back into the truck. As soon as I popped it into reverse and turned the wheel, my right front side of my truck dropped to the ground. Luckily for me a certified mobile mechanic happened to be walking by and shimmied underneath and said (if I remember correctly)☺ that my ball joint had broke away from my control arm but that he could fix it. He went to the auto parts store, rented the pressure tool, bought the part or parts and fixed my truck in the busy parking lot at night FOR FREE! Many blessings to this gentleman🙏 He says it's a common Chevy problem. Is that true and what should I do now? Go to an alignment shop and have them check all the components to the front end of the truck? I haven't driven it since I got it back home. I'm kinda scared of the truck now. First truck I've owned. It has 186,000 miles on it with a newer transmission installed before I bought it. What do you think guys? Oh and I just bought taller tires for it, not wider tho.

      Make sure to grease all the zerk fittings regularly or have someone do it. Get an alignment and ask them to check all the suspension component while they have it up. These are wear items that need maintenance, and looking at regularly.

    My dash issue is that the hour counter rests to 9 hours. Right now i have 115,000 or so on the odometer and 13 hours. My truck is a 2006 HD2500 4X4 extended cab, with a long bed. The service engine light has been on for 10 years. I think the lights on because of the K&N air filter that i put in about 13 years ago. I've come accustomed of the darn light, i don't even pay attention to it. The only thing that I've done to the truck since owning it, i bought it new, is the K&N, new double din radio, serviced the transmission, oil and filter. I haven't changed the spark plugs, or wires. The darn metal covers make it impossible to remove the wires. It still has the original Dexcool in it too. That'll be taken care of after the first of the year.

    I'd be more concerned about the fact the brake lines will rot out even in areas without significant snow/salt then any of this. It's usually a bad sign when there's so much demand for it that companies are manufacturing pre-bent kits to replace every brake line on a vehicle.

    heres a question for you. Raining heavy yesterday and my old 2004 GMC sierra ran into many deep puddles and standing water. Suddenly the motor started to miss and cough and sputter like it wasn't getting fuel. under throttle it seemed to smooth out a little. It soon got worse. would not stay running at a stop light. Stalled 10 times at least before I got to my destination where it promptly died. It would restart but only run for 30 seconds then died again and again and again. Put it on check engine and got massive errors. sensor after sensor errors including bad bank 1 and bad bank 2 (fuel injectors?) just multiple errors including pretty much every sensor on board!!!! what can cause this just because the under carriage got really wet?

    The driver side driving light burns out on all of those pickup trucks I've seen many including my own is because they use a bulb from the brake light which is brighter than the running light but by doing that the brake light filament is not design for a constant burn therefore overheating overloading the socket and burning it up. So after replacing your burn up socket try switching the pigtails to pull on the running light circuit of the bulb instead of the brake light turn signal circuit of the bulb and no more issues. I actually switched mine over to the old school bulbs with the round bottoms from like the 80s instead of the flat plug-in bulbs. I really absolutely despise flat type of bulb connector that are now being used the old ones that are round are so much better

Replace ctsy fuse, brake lights come back on, go inside and press the dome override button on headlights switch, press brake pedal, interior lights come on. Remove chsml fuse, rear brake lights go out, chmsl stays lit. I'm lost. Can't find the problem anywhere.

    I have a 1500 and my abs was tweaking for years the light will come on and off never a serious issue till I hit a parking car about a month ago if your abs light is on just take out the fuse in the fuse box till you get it fixed remember you can drive perfectly fine without abs you don’t need abs but if it means that much to you get it fixed but in the mean time get that fuse out of there because it will fuck with your breaks at low speeds and make them grind and the pedal will bounce up and down and you can’t stop the truck lucky I was only going like 2 mph and it was just a little dent on my front bumper. But the other car had a fat dent

    I am surprised at all they did not nention.
    One... These LS motors are horrible to have oil pressure issues, many say it is the oil pickup tube o ring, but i suspect the pressure release valve in the pump is often the trouble. The bad thing is how hard they are to cha ge especially on 4x4.
    Two, the stepper on the fan motor. They start losing the abilities in lower settings. You will typically see them only woeking on a couple of places mine was 4th and 5th speed. It is not too bad to replace once the cover is off.
    Three a d a huge one is the oil pressure sending unit at the back top of engine. Pain to get to and goes out often.
    Four, someone already mentioned the brake lines rust out, but also gas lines rust easily, and the cab corners also rust super fast. Seems like chevy would have made them more resistant being a work truck with 4x4.
    Five, the sensors for the gas fumes go bad. The one most common is the one near the gas tank. They often get clogged, tge dumb thing is chevy put them at several different locations and sometimes like on my truck it is nearly impossible to get out.
    Six, the drive by wire or heard ir callsd "fly by wire" systems suck! I have had lots of trouble with the throttle boddies, but the sensors between the gas peddle and throttle body has to read very closly or it sends your truck into the dreaded "reduced power mode" aka limp... this is very dangerous id you are pulling a load.. you cant go anywhere if it goes in this mode when hauling. Super sketchy/scary in traffic. It should have a bypass button to get you out of traffic at least.
    Seven, someone else mentioned this... the hydronost on these trucks is crap. WhEN it goes out and it will go out it takes out both your power steering and your brakes! It usually starts leaking well before and if you are putting in lots of power steering fluid... that is likely the problem.
    Eight, everything seems to leak on these trucks. The oil cooler lines will not be easy to change either WHEN they go out.
    And all of the ones mentioned in the video. ESPECIALLY the guage cluster. It os usually a connection issue. The stepper motors are bad to go out too. This guy made out like oh just have it relearn the cluster lol that is not likely the problem. And he said "replace the cluster" well they are NOT cheap like everything else, get ready to spend.
    One addition tid bit...If you have lots of flickering on the lights, check to see if someone tried to use LED bulbes, this truck does not like those bulbes. It also does not like any of the add on things that work off the trailer hitch wiring. It will do some crazy things.

  • @agooser26
    @agooser26 6 месяцев назад

    I al.ost forgot how these trucks seem to squeak so easily. Seems like the front end components need to be changed far too often.

    • @killerdragon2011
      @killerdragon2011 3 года назад +2

      Because the Silverado in 1988-1998 wasn’t the truck it was a package the 1988-1998 Chevy Trucks where still C/K models not Silverado’s

    • @mattcat231
      @mattcat231 3 года назад +2

      Actually the "Silverado" package goes back to the Square bodies. The OBS (88-98) just went by "c-2500" or "k-2500". the 99 (2000 for the 2500 series) were known full on as Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra and then the weight after it. I currently have an 87 C-10 with the Silverado package, an 88 GMC C-2500 TBI 350, an 88 Chevy C-1500 4.3 with the Cheyenne package, a 99 GMC Sierra SL 1500 4.3 2wd, an 02 Chevy Silverado 1500 4wd 4.3, and an 02 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.0 4wd. My 2wd trucks are used for my landscape business, both of my 02 are my roadside service trucks, and my 87 squarebody is my weekend/off the clock warrior.

    Gauge cluster, easy fix. Bad solder joints on mother board. Pull cluster, separate mother board after you remove needles. Have a tv repair shop inspect and re-solder as needed the resistors and diodes on the mother board. Plug in motherboard to re-zero stepper motors, and install needles to zero.
    Install back in truck.
