Here are some major ones that need to be checked and can affect your purchase.
    1) CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID!!!! The fluid needs to be changed on these trucks or serious damage will be done. We had a farm truck that needed a while new transmission because it was not maintained. A clean filter is also a necessity. However, DO NOT FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION! It can cause too little friction and mess up worn out parts.
    2) Check the rear fender wells.the bedsides will rust from the inside out depending upon how much damage is done. It is also structural for the rear quarter panel. The rear support will crack then by the taillights will follow affecting the tailgate bracket.
    3) Assume you need new sparkplugs and a fuel filter. If there's a check engine light on their typically the culprit. Just under $100 and it makes a world of difference.
3a) The spark gap on the plugs can vary from the original specs depending upon which engine you have. It varies if you have iridium or platinum. Do your research.
    4) Cab mounts. The cab mounts on the earlier mounts tend to go. Look carefully at the bushings. If not replaced when broken they will hold water rusting out the mount. It can become costly to repair, potentially damaging the front mounts in the process.
    5) Tailgate latch. The plastic connector which holds the release for the tailgate can break easily if yanked upon. Always push into the tailgates before opening them. The plastic becomes brittle.
    6) Bumpers. The bumpers usually rust out horribly. There's no way to repair it, it's much easier just to install new ones.
The way the market is right now, there's a lot of these trucks for sale. Keep in mind that a cheaper truck could cost you more in repairs. Attempt to find the best truck cosmetically and mechanically in your budget. Parts are cheap and the repairs are typically pretty simple, remember you can't undo rust. Good luck.

On my 2000 2500 I’ve done the following; all ball joints, front shocks, water pump, intake manifold gaskets, new OEM intake manifold, water pump, idler arm + bracket, pitman arm, both front hubs and bearings, TCCM, transfer case encoder motor, front axle actuator, pigtail connectors and harness for the transfercase, tie rods and tie rod ends, starter, 3/4 o2 sensors, hood release cable, new trans, full pad a rotor kit. I still have a cv boot and a trans cooler line to do, and more than likely both head gaskets. I’ve had the truck for about 2 1/2 years. Love it to death but at this point it’s starting to get a little pricey.

If I buy one of these with 100k miles would it damage anything if I do fluid changes? Like transfer case ? A transmission fluid change (not flush)

I'm having weird electrical issues, but I suspect previous owner as oem wire from alternator replaced, but old one left on, power inverter installed, but red wire used to connect both pos and neg terminals, aftermarket stereo with bad install... Will check ground cable though! Thanks for the tips!

There is a ground terminal under the truck on the drivers side that has a bunch of grounds all meeting up there. Very common rust causes bad grounds and cant figure it outs. CHeck that area if your having issues tough to follow....

Good vid! I bought a 2500 suburban cheap, but electrical problems galore! It would even stay running when I turned the key OFF! Had to Turn the headlight switch to kill the engine! Hilarious. Redid ground cables, so it runs great now, but still stuck in 4high-auto. And no headlights. I’m going to pull out the fuse box like you suggest. Thanks, man.

2 batteries in a gas truck are a factory option if the buyer had planned on hooking up multiple accessories or camper, or inverter for AC electrical current. It was set up to prevent a dead battery for starting the truck just incase the user failed to catch it in time.
