I live in a different world for I am almost 70 and have never paid attention to commercial powers which currently include the recent algorithmic forces. I don't see my work ever being popular yet, that doesn't mean I don't want to connect with people because I do. You validated my method for I do what my muses have inspired and have never tried to do something just to please the masses. As you implied this method guarantees that I can't help but be original.

Thank you so much for being a voice of reason in an endless sea of fluff. I’m a couple weeks away from my admission exam in the conservatory of electronic music in Naples, and the perspective of investing 100% of my time and money into something so shaky and uncertain has really taken a toll on my mental health. I’ve only started making electronic music a couple of years ago after a weird and uneventful relationship with my guitar, and I truly believe I have now found my vocation in the audiovisual niche. I’ve been deeply inspired by a small project from near my hometown in Italy which I’ve followed since their first endeavours, and seeing them climb the ladders of the industry through pure passion and a sense of community has been a massive inspiration to me. Your pure aspiration towards a sense of community and spontaneity between artists is something I take to heart as much as the art itself, and seeing someone on RUclips all the way from Australia share such ideals has truly been a breath of fresh air; I don’t feel like I’m crazy anymore. Thank you. :)
I absolutely feel you with investing so much time into uncertain terrain, I really hope you get into the Con - and if that's not the way it goes there are SO many other paths in an industry where gatekeepers are becoming less and less relevant, so good luck! quality video bro and nice pots!! i disagree a little bit though. i don't think it's the virality that's a problem, i think it's going viral doing something that's not really true to you for the sake of going viral and then struggling to turn that into what you really wanted to do because the views aren't the same and the people you attracted aren't here for what you wanted to do. going viral showing your original work, being who you are (kind of like you've done with some of your videos lately) is a positive thing in my opinion, because people will come for you moving forward and aren't necessarily going to disappear when you don't drop more remixes. It's kinda like putting a facade up around other people to get friends and expecting to be able to show who you really are later down the line and still keep those friends - that's the way I see it at least! But I definitely agree we shouldn't become slaves to the algorithms and do things just for going viral, we should all focus on doing what we truly want to do and if we can go viral with the stuff that truly fulfills us then that's a win 👑 also let me know if you think i'm wrong lol i've never really gone viral myself

The only thing I’ll add is don’t get too attached to the validation you get from going viral doing something you love. Humans are humans, and humans change. This is my opinion, I myself have never gone viral before.
Yeah cheers will it is very nuanced. I was going to mention that some of the positive numbers on this channel have caused similar emotions, it's not easy to navigate but it's miles away better. This is very valid tho

Good one, I agree with all 31 minutes and 22 seconds of this. Music and money don't get along very well. Never have. My greatest joy is listening to tracks I participated in knowing that in some cases, I am the only person who has this song. Do it for the music and for yourself. Be in control of your choices, never sell your publishing. No current industry music business model makes sense for local bands or singer/songwriters. Figure out how to be your own business. My way around it is running a music nonprofit. Keep creating and thank you for sharing your experience, people need to know what reality is from people who have been through it.
Nice video! I think its very mature to have a game plan towards things like going viral and fame etc, or just small emotional stuff like falling into bad habits, like watching the phone of following stats on youtube. I watch a lot of podcasts by Cal Newport, lots of wise words there imo regarding this. The emotional aspect is something that has to be trained, even in arts, im really starting to think about it like that. I compare it to sports psychology like in golf or disc golf (one of my big hobbies), where one win for a pro for the season can destroy your whole season if you dont have a plan and emotional insight. That emotion of winning something, getting the fame or just applause at the local pub for a set; the acknowledgement can put an unreasonable weight on you and mess with your dreams and ideas and plans. Makes you expect things. Like a golf pro when you dont win or even place well at the next tournament, it can spiral out of control. I fear success when it comes to creativity, I dont know if I can handle it, I dont really want to "handle" it either. I imagine the chance of becoming a resentful artists with no emotional tool developed and trusted upon to handle the situation. Sounds delusional when I say it to myself. But I kind of believe that success can't be controlled, that its not up to me really, especially art as it often existsts in the eyes of the beholder. Rant over xD
I think that final point is gold - there are a lot of aspects of success that can't be controlled, we probably need to work with that rather than against it. Loved reading this whole rant (it's got nothing on my 30 min essay)

You’ve genuinely changed my perspective on how i approach making my music and art. I recently started my path in the music industry, and for a while now i’ve had this looming feeling of guilt whenever just making what I want to make. The pressure from label heads and execs to follow exact genre trends to catch lightning in a bottle has been killing my want to create music all for the sake of virality. Ever since your 30 Day Challenge up until this video, you’ve given me another chance to finally love just doing music and art again. You’ve inspired me to take steps in bettering my craft and in doing so, I ultimately enjoy what I do more now even if there’s no incentive. Keep doing the art that you do man. People like me really value what you do and inspire us to appreciate our own pieces of art even more. Much love🫶🏻

Every creator needs to watch this video as camus is someone speaking from first hand experiences from the real world and I strongly agree with what he has been saying. I am an amatuer producer and composer (Do check out some of my stuff !) and everytime I finish a song or an instrumental, A string of flashbacks from an impossible future hits me where these creations act as the fundamental basis of my career. To be honest, there are so many great artists in this world and we will never get to know their works for many aspects driving the modern era. But atleast, if we have fun while making a creative work, maybe the fulfilment from just that is actually enough

You always have the reader, the plattform , the potential success in the back of your mind though you actually only want to express yourself and do what you like - be creative for yourself. First of all, the second Pot seems better! Secondly, it's funny how you make music, and that's what hooked me at the start as someone who makes music himself, but I never until now checked a full song of yours. Maybe I should head to Spotify after this to listen. Thirdly, My memory is worse than remembering all the details you've spoken about, but I agree with most of them, although I have no experience in going viral. One point that I wanna reassure from my journey that you've spoken about briefly in the video is the importance of taking care of what you make and making something that you truly think is valuable to you and other people. As I've mentioned before in a comment, I'm making my first EP, but I wanna add to that, that there are 60 songs private-ed on my channel just because I was trying to feed the machine. After a night when I listened to my whole catalog in one run, I realized that non of my past work is representative of me as an person and/or an artist (except for like.. 4 tracks which are still up there). And even if they were representative, all of them were made quickly and not out of passion, but rather out of the will to hit the lotto with my sound. So I made them private, I took a 9 months break, worked on my skillset to really be able to make something with the quality that I want and then think about what I wanted to be and craft it carefully, not because it'll get to X amount of views or in front of X number of sets on eyeballs, but rather because down the road, a couple years from now, I wanna look at it, and be happy about it. I don't wanna make it any longer, I'm going to take a listen to something you made and thanks for the video I really enjoyed it.

This video pretty much encompasses what I've been struggling with for almost a year now, and I've felt pretty alone in it 'till now. The reason i bring up the time stamp is I'm an artist myself and I started a Discord recently and it's been one of the best decisions I've made, I've never been able to connect with people that enjoy my work so well and so often, and it changes the mindset of the next thing you make loads

I started an independent study for school where I will make “content” for all of my creative hobbies. I’ve made videos before in my spare time but I definitely fall into the same problems and end up not doing anything creative for months. I want to enjoy my hobbies and put less energy into “what sells.” I’m currently trying to find my balance so I continue to enjoy what I’m doing. Also, if it helps, I have watched a lot of videos for you personality, so your plans seem to be working 👍

This was an interesting video to wake up to, lots of great points in it. Even though I'm not a content creator myself, one of my recent roommates was and I can see how these things apply so accurately. However, I don't think I've made pottery since I was in like second grade, so I don't think I'm an expert or have much authority on this... But make the damn cup already!! I know it's maybe therapeutic, not a rush, it's not a mission to complete, but couldn't you have made like 10 cups in the same time that you were moving that thing up and down like the whole video lol?! Part of me hanging on through the video is to see when this cup is going to be done like a cliffhanger lol
If your son goes viral that is a fantastic thing. Doesn’t mean it Hass to dictate anything you do after that. Check out Afroman because I got high. At least he has something that you know
I know you were dunking on people who make courses, but I think that is their way of trying to provide something of value to viewers while making money that isn’t algorithm dependent. Same for things like merch.
Probably didn't make this clear enough - not dunking on all courses, I've bought a few myself, just the scammy ones that are made for no other purpose than money

After a night when I listened to my whole catalog in one run, I realized that non of my past work is representative of me as an person and/or an artist (except for like.. 4 tracks which are still up there). And even if they were representative, all of them were made quickly and not out of passion, but rather out of the will to hit the lotto with my sound. So I made them private, I took a 9 months break, worked on my skillset to really be able to make something with the quality that I want and then think about what I wanted to be and craft it carefully, not because it'll get to X amount of views or in front of X number of sets on eyeballs, but rather because down the road, a couple years from now, I wanna look at it, and be happy about it. I don't wanna make it any longer, I'm going to take a listen to something you made and thanks for the video I really enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing your story - this made me think of the idea that part of being an artist is in the curation of your work. Deciding what is and isn't what you want to share. Tough balance though

Bro this is great. I just made a similar video on my channel (you did it way better), and I’ve been thinking about all of this heaps recently. I’ve also started a mailing list and have been figuring out what I can sell, but not just for the sake of selling shit. It’s a little tricky when it’s music, and music used to be the thing you could sell, but that’s some old man shit so who cares. Anyway, good on you. Keen to see how you go!

This video pretty much encompasses what I've been struggling with for almost a year now, and I've felt pretty alone in it 'till now. The reason i bring up the time stamp is I'm an artist myself and I started a Discord recently and it's been one of the best decisions I've made, I've never been able to connect with people that enjoy my work so well and so often, and it changes the mindset of the next thing you make loads

I started an independent study for school where I will make “content” for all of my creative hobbies. I’ve made videos before in my spare time but I definitely fall into the same problems and end up not doing anything creative for months. I want to enjoy my hobbies and put less energy into “what sells.” I’m currently trying to find my balance so I continue to enjoy what I’m doing. Also, if it helps, I have watched a lot of videos for you personality, so your plans seem to be working 👍

This was an interesting video to wake up to, lots of great points in it. Even though I'm not a content creator myself, one of my recent roommates was and I can see how these things apply so accurately. However, I don't think I've made pottery since I was in like second grade, so I don't think I'm an expert or have much authority on this... But make the damn cup already!! I know it's maybe therapeutic, not a rush, it's not a mission to complete, but couldn't you have made like 10 cups in the same time that you were moving that thing up and down like the whole video lol?!
