The BEST Way to Learn Piano as a Music Producer
Просмотров 154 тыс.2 месяца назад
When learning piano/keyboard, I think more producers/artists need to focus on learning the language and playing by ear (and basic theory). Songwriters too. Basic Jazz piano has all the ingredients we need to learn to make music as we learn to play piano, once we've built a solid foundation. I'm completely self taught on the piano. I'm not a piano teacher and I made this video to share the way I...

    Seeing you talk about this makes me realize that I'm not the only one having this "problem" with music. I loved your approach to it and I definitely found some answers through your video. I personally found myself listening to the same amount of music overall, but consuming it more passively instead of actually listening to it. This might have to do with the way we listen to music nowadays, as you said. The fact that it is all in your phone and you can listen to it anytime may not be that good in the end. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I encourage you to keep up the good work. PS. Did you get the Jazz piano 1-year practice plan in 7:40 from somewhere online?

    I can heavily relate to this story. I started creating music when I was 14, releasing it at 16, then at 17 really pushed and wanted to "blow up" and never did until I stopped wanting to go viral. I didn't get millions or even a hundred thousand views but I got more than a lot of my previous releases ever did. And this happened at a time where I was taking a break from the genre that the song got popular from so it also stood out like a sore thumb at the time. What didn't help was I deleted all my previous past work, at a time where I felt it was all so pointless, so a lot of people thought this was my first ever song when in reality I had 7 albums under the 'YDoubleR' name that wasn't available to be streamed at that time. I later re-released everything but the numbers couldn't compete against that one song that took off. Three years later and still I am unable to crack those same numbers but at the same time I never want to. I never want to "blow up" and would rather create a small community that can enjoy the music I make and not look to create the next hit because I don't want to be known for just one thing, but everything I make (which I know is the dream for a lot of creators). I'm 24 now and this happened to me when I was 21, thank you for creating this video good to know I'm not so alone <3

    I was composing in MuseScore for about a year and a half. The Discord server hated basically everything I made. Then I got a semi-decent digital piano and started fooling around on it across the key of C. I never really got into playing songs with both hands, but I can improvise now and I started hearing harmony in a way I never did before. I'm still not at a pro level, but I can hear a massive improvement in the quality of my compositions... (when combined with what some call the beat-engine-noise theory of percussion, which I describe more like "pulse-engine-flavor.")

    As a fifty-one yr old finding new music is difficult, because the old tried and true places are gone. Magazines:gone. TV shows: gone. Music venues:gone. Jeez, even music formats are gone! However, I also realise those are just excuses because paradoxically (and a contradiction) finding new music is also easier than ever - as long as I don’t blatantly reject it from the first listen! And that bit is crucial. If I challenge myself to stick with a new sound even if I don’t initially like it, it will often grow on me, then I’ll begin devouring everything the artist has ever produced. The algorithms and ad targeting are bloody spot on imo and I love the way my music feed expands exponentially as long as I keep clicking and listening. Killer! 😀👍

    You have a great attitude, Camus. I loved this video and it’s great that you tackled the issue. Ok, I’m going to sound like the boring guy who sits and home which is rather typical of a guy in his mid-60s (I’m 64). As a musician I’ve wondered a lot about this topic as I found myself increasingly listening to less music until about a year ago when I “rediscovered” a joy of it in ways I never expected. I started listening to way less contemporary music starting in my 40s. Why? I’m not sure, but maybe a super busy work life was part of it. I started doing the stereotypical thing of only listening to music from my youth. Recently though, I “semi-retired” and have started spending way more time again listening, really listening, to music again, but the kicker is that It’s been classical and jazz that I’ve been listening to. What has totally surprised me is that some classical works (even if I knew of them a little before) have come out of the blue and grabbed me by the … and totally excited me to the point that I listen to some of them over and over like I used to listen to albums over and over as a teenager/early 20s guy. I’ve been “surprised by joy” at all of this, and it’s fantastic. One last thing, I’ve found as I have gotten older that I realize there is less time in front of me as behind me and that there is a HUGE world of different music that I could not listen to even if I wanted to. The good thing is, I can go in so many directions and explore so many different musical genres and works, that it’s virtually a bottomless pit of things to discover. How wonderful is that? I think those studies were good in illuminating some of the reasons for not listening to music as we age, but maybe I’m an exception. BTW, I loved your visit to the record store. That was my life when I was young. I am now listening to albums of my time (70s, mostly) that I never listened to back then because unlike now, you could never afford more than an album or two per month. I miss handling records and dropping the needle, but I way prefer the digital well of music available now. Plus, it’s a whole lot less expensive to access. Keep up your music and your videos.

    • @camus.mp3
      @camus.mp3 2 дня назад

      This perspective is actually so valuable, thank you John ! Do you think the resurgence came from more deep active listening or the extra time for it or maybe even both? Maybe even working as a musician less let you just enjoy it more? Either way this is fresh for me, a nice reminder about how lucky we are for all the access we have to music right now - I definitely needed it.

    • @johnmclachlansinger
      @johnmclachlansinger День назад

      @@camus.mp3 - I think mostly, I had more time in my day so that I could just devote it to some music listening. Something else that added interest to me was to write down my thoughts on what I’m listening to as I listen. It means I am even more focused on what I’m hearing. Having said that, there’s also times when music playing as “furniture music” is fine, too. 🙂
