After months of indecision, I ordered one from an AD and it will be here in a few days. In the meantime I’ve been re-watching your video (and others) repeatedly to remind myself how smart I am for choosing this model. 😂
I am also finishing my degree in mechanical engineering, just a few years later than you. After eyeballing it in boutique windows for a few years, I am getting the SBDC165, the Save the Ocean variation. Will be my most expensive watch to date, even with getting around 20-30% off the MSRP + a good exchange rate to the JYP, making it half the price of buying it in my own country, or at least when it was still available in my country. I'm excited to get it :D
Glad you enjoyed, thank you💯! Honestly the strap surprised me on how comfortable and well made it is. It's my first strap from them but certainly not my last and make sure to get it with the quick-release pins
Congratulations on achieving your engineering degree, You absolutely deserve this time peace , I just ordered one after watching your video , Thanks for sharing . 🕗 ✌🏻
Congratulations on your graduation! I also have the Seiko SPB143 and I'm really happy with it. Glad you were able to get the 1st gen! Wear it in good health! There's been a revision to that watch as it now has a lumed marker at the 3 o'clock next to the date window, which I am personally not a fan of. I would recommend getting a tropic strap, as those are really comfy and it really fits with the tool diver look of this particular Seiko.
Thank you very much. I will consider a tropic strap for the future but Im currently a huge fan of the artem strap. Wear yours in good health too! Thanks for watching
Congratulations brother!! On the graduation as well as this Stunner of a Seiko! Like wow!! That bezel reminds me of a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms!! And that nylon strap just kills it 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you so much man🙏 The bezel surprised me of how rigid it feels as usually a lot of bezels I've come across are made of aluminum but this one is made out of stainless steel
Fantastic video, covering unboxing, review and strap change. You show genuine passion for this watch, it was really nice to be able to see your first moments! And congratulations on your graduation - a lovely keepsake watch to mark the event! 😁👏
Yes,it’s a sweet watch. I bought my first Seiko since the 90’s to go with my 6501-8119 I bought in 1976. I really like my spb 237. Right now I’m wearing it with the OD Green band and it looks great.
@@LocalWatchGuy I’m very happy with it. I bought it on a whim while my 6105 is being restored. It needed it. I wore it for 15 years and put it up since then. It still runs but is quite beat up so I sent it off to a reputable watch repair shop. One more Seiko for my collection.
Love the watch. Very nice. Looks amazing on that strap, good choice. love a seiko. I'vee just bought the green Willard and a clean 1974 JDM coke pogue this month myself.
@@kubipro5880 I was worried the SPB143 would be too big surprisingly it fits perfect! With the aftermarket strap, it even sits more nicely and comfortably on the wrist
Congrats on graduating as a mechanical engineer. I'm graduating this April as a civil engineer and had the exact same plans of buying an spb143, thus why I'm watching this video 😂
4:33 “grayish sort of dial” ... I think you mean “sunburst dial”? 😉 I also have this watch in my collection. I like the direction Seiko (finally) is moving in.
I love my 62mas wish I could say it was my most expensive Seiko but I got bit by the Seiko bug. The history the fact that they stood alone when no one else would and the fact that from day one they did everything in house probably the one and only who did so.
@@LocalWatchGuy I haven’t had a chance to try one on yet, I thought it might be too small for my 8in wrist. I tried the Willard, that looks a bit small but your 143 looks great 👍
nice review! Thinking to do the same combination!! How does the Artem strap’s spring bar fit? I believe SBDC101 has 1.1mm or so diemeter and regular spring bar’s end diemeter is 0.8mm. Is it loose? Or you can just replace it with the SBDC101 spring bar in the artem strap?
It fits perfectly because the artem strap has its own quick release pins so I didn't need to purchase extra spring bars(thats if you go for the quick-release strap on their site). Its not loose at all and doesn't jiggle around at all.
8:01 I agree with the solid feel. Comparing it with a submariner, the Seiko feels way heavier. And its also higher on the wrist than a submariner. But I love the watch!
Love the review! Such a beauty at this price point. I'm interested in the watch but two questions. Does the bracelet pull your arm hair (I've got hairy arms)? And I have a 6.5 inch wrist so would this be too big?
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed. In regards to the steel bracelet, I only tried it on for the video and it sort felt like one of those bracelets where it will be a major hair puller (since its not the highest of quality)as compared to a higher quality bracelet like the oystersteel on a Rolex. As for size, it will fit just fine and sit well with your wrist size.
I too recently graduated and got my Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering :D. This watch is so beautiful and it meets all the requirements that I look for a diver's watch (especially the size of the watch as I have a pretty small wrist). I have been eyeing this watch for quite some time as well and am on the edge of pulling the trigger to get one. Mind I ask where did you purchase your watch from?
Many congratulations to you, its nice to meet a fellow fresh graduate Mechanical Engineer😬.
