IMPORTANT: Shift Up released a day 1 patch that adds an additional 2 display settings. 🤯
1. Film grain - this defaults to on and provides a subtle grainy film grain style over the screen which can help to hide lower detailed textures. I find this is quite subtle in Stellar Blade so have kept it on, but I do turn this off in most games.
2. Chromatic aberration - this defaults to on and I have disabled it. It adds a rainbowy and blurry lens effect to the edges of the screen in certain scenarios which is unrealistic and somewhat distracting. I'd advise you disable this one too.

Wow the day 1 patch adds NG+ a slider for film grain, and a toggle for Chromatic aberration… that’s how you do it!!! Those were the only 3 things I saw people mention they wish could be changed. So to see it added day 1 is a great sign for this game continuing to be a “stellar” success haha

HDR settings please
Apparently some of the outfits have been censored with the patch as well. Sony pulled a bait and switch? I'm not sure how true this is

About the only time I go into settings is to turn off vibrate on my controller

I always check settings and omg the hdr changes so much.look at the difference in the menu screen

I like subtitles, I turn them on so when I record things people that cannot hear can still tell whats going on when I upload it to youtube or rumble, I have a deaf friend that keeps saying he can't watch everything because not everything has subtitles.
This makes a lot of sense! For any sort of gameplay going through the story or let's plays, I definitely think that's a great reason to have them enabled. 😊

I also enlarged the hud so the health shield and stagger bars are much bigger its obviously easier to see but also looks much better and gives you more confidence due to maki g it feel like you have more health to a degree and making it feel like your doing more damage to a degree but honestly i just think it looks much better

Any HDR recommendations?? Or should i leave it on default?
I left mine on default; it highly depends on the screen. What you'd set it to would be quite different on a LG G4 to what you would on a Samsung LED 4K HDR TV for instance.

1:04 auto lock on? Although off for me, I always lock on and flick the camera stick left or right to change target. Not disengage then lock again. This also means instant camera spin to enemies behind.
Good point! This mechanic didn't seem to work before the day 1 patch for me though, which is why I last minute edited some text on that part to sort of correct myself. If you look at the top of the screen, I've placed that there. 😊
I still prefer auto lock on off personally though, as I find physically turning to where I want easier and faster than flicking the stick one direction x number of times to find the target you actually want to engage with.
100% understand why auto lock on can be appealing to some though 😊

have to smash that like button and thank you for the tip to set auto loot items ON . I was playing the 1.0 version and when I encountered the 3 id cards to use the crane part, I had gotten all 3 chests but somehow didnt have the id cards. nothing I did helped and I was forced to install the patch in order to progress.

Thanks mate. I was going to wait for a sale on this game but after learning the game may still be further censored I just want to play it as close to the artists intentions as possible so waiting for my copy to arrive later today.
With motion blue it depends on what type for me to leave it on. If it is per pixel motion blur like a cartoon then I would leave it on as it usually looks amazing.
These are cool tips. I generally turn off subtitles unless it is late at night when I sometimes just prefer to read text than have too much noise whilst playing.
I thought the camera shake was cool, if a little excessive when I played the demo.
The only bummer for me is the lack of foliage interaction.
Perhaps this is something they could add to the rumoured PS5 pro console version down the line anyway.
It is unreal engine 4 not 5 so perhaps it was just overlooked or it was performance issue on current console.
I would love to find out from the developer just out of curiosity anyway.
I doubt we'll see foliage interaction added for Stellar Blade on the PS5 Pro tbh, but maybe, hopefully! I suspect it was likely something that was just deemed not important enough for the development time and budget. It's good to see your thoughts on the rest of the settings too and glad the video could be of use! :) Sorry for only just replying now btw, been super busy!
I keep seeing people have counters and dodges be a quick QTE in combat, how do you do that? I've never seen it, I've just had to pay attention and time it manually lol
do you mean qte’s or parries & dodges?
I played around trying to figure this out and I THINK it only happens in story difficulty with the further assist option turned on too. It seems to slow the window and give you a QTE for it. I've not had it when in the regular difficulty so I believe this is the cause but I may be wrong :)
Is there a reason you left HDR off? I didn't notice any issues in the demo. Just curious if it's a preference or if you noticed an issue with it?
I believe it's set to off by default (which is weird). Possible he didn't turn it on because of that. I know I noticed mine was set to off in the demo and had to turn it on. You'd think the game would recognize if your display had HDR and default it that way.
I was wondering if based on the demo they hadn’t dialled in the color values properly as yet.
Getting HDR values right can be tricky and it is not always simple to implement
@@TheCollectorCave yeah, it's definitely set to "off" from the demo, but I turned it on and didn't think anything about it. Not sure if there's a major difference or issue though?
@@DEVILTAZ35 that's very true. I will say, the "auto HDR" used by the Series Xbox for 360 and original Xbox games is usually a nice upgrade. I can't imagine this is a hit to the hardware? I don't know, I'm just curious. I'm literally waiting for the stupid update to finish so I can start the game. It's literally forcing me to download it even though I have my system set to not do this. Sony can fuck straight off!
The honest and main reason is that if I record my footage with HDR enabled, then it washes out all of the colours completely unless I edit the video in HDR which is a massive pain.
So the reason is just that it makes making the video easier. When I've been playing the game, I've toggled HDR to on. 😊 This is something I control system wide whenever I'm capturing any gameplay or footage for videos just for a better workflow :)
I’ve always used subtitles in games and even have in movies/TV in recent times(it sometimes puts information that would not be known or audible as strange as that sounds). Background dialogue, etc. that I NEVER would have discerned is put on screen.
That's a really good point! I think it would be cool if there was like a dynamic subtitles mode for film, TV & games where maybe not everything is subtitled, but the extremely quick easy-to-miss stuff is, like important text on documents shown in movies or inaudible sounds etc.
@@Octorious this would be amazing if this was a thing. I think dynamic accessibility options such as these would be terrific in gaming and other entertainment mediums.

Nice, would also recommend you turn the music volume down too, to like 30%. I found that loud music often drowns out dialogue or other useful cues.

I typically keep subtitles on for my first playthrough, maybe my second, but once I know what everyone is saying, I turn them off to focus on the facial animations.

Aha well spotted, and yes there is!
When recording either via the PS5, or via a capture card, if HDR is enabled the colour space used is completely changed. So when it comes to editing, everything is incredibly washed out and it's not really possible to get it back to SDR for RUclips.
So anytime I'm capturing gameplay, capturing anything on my screen etc, HDR is disabled. Just makes the whole creator workflow so much easier.

One setting i suggest changing is the fishing setting. When fishing you press square several time, then hold R2. But you dont hold R2 all the way down, its very sensitive and a pain to get right. Change the setting dor that and now you can hold R2 all the way down.
Great advice! I almost included this but at the time of recording I hadn't been playing quite for long enough to be able to properly experiment with the setting to determine which was best.
I loved the korean voices when playing the demo, felt more immersive than the english option imho, loved all the other tips though!

You forgot the most important one… the Fishing Mode option in Accessibility. It makes the fishing much easier and less frustrating.
I really really almost included this but had only come across one part of the game i could try this at the point of recording so wasnt confident in it being better or not. I wish I had included it haha 😅 Good advice :)
I beat the entire game on default sens. Honestly it didn’t hinder me too much but ill see if i like how the increase feels

I'm a performance guy, screw graphics, but... I've been experiencing the full 60fps in Balance, this might've been missed/not talked about, but, yeah graphics option seems terrible laggy and performance might be unnecessary downgraded quality so balance may be the option for most.
Definitely agree! :) The difference in performance between performance and balanced just isn't enough here to sacrifice that much resolution and quality.

I did almost add this but tbh, at the time I made it, I hadn't played enough to really have been able to decide if this was the better option as I'd only had 1 or 2 opportunities to try it.
Now I have though, completely agree it's a great setting!
I always go right to settings sometimes more than once. I mess with my settings a lot.

I honestly didn't find this to be the case. Are you using headphones, tv speakers or? Let me know and I'll give it a go on those and will let you know what I personally find to be the best. I've kept audio at defaults myself though and am using the Pulse Elite Headset on the bass boost audio preset.
@@Octorious I play with my TV OLED C1 LG. If I play with the preset options (all on 10/10) voices are low (Korean one). I changed sound effect and music into 8 and it’s slightly better…
@FabioEagle90 I have a CX so should be able to test this and give my thoughts. I'm home tomorrow so will give it a try and let you know what I settle on! TV speakers do sometimes produce audio that's a little too low for voices. Make sure your settings are set for speakers etc and also try configuring 3D audio for TV in the system settings (or maybe even turn it off if you have it on and see if it sounds better).
But otherwise, yeah turning down the other sounds and then playing at a higher overall volume tends to work well 😊

I got subtitles on. I'm playing it in the Korean voice since it's a product of a Korean studio. Much like foreign movies and shows, I tend to like the original voice, as it's intended.
Fully get that! I think I might have to go back and play through with the Korean track.

I think it's just because games didn't use to have autocollect at all so making it not the default makes more sense than forcing it on. I do think games should start defaulting the option to on though for sure.

And to find people making videos like "pls change these settings" it truly irks me for some reason..

Or Steller blade without your own heatlbar or beta skills (healthbar is useless the screen goes black n white of your realy low ' a healthbar is just a second indicator that gets in the way)
The beta skill is also useless cuz you can feel when you have them or not.. or just parry once and you know you have beta (like talking about shit like this to make everyone 's game legit look better)
The ponytail thing with physics i didnt even know was an issue its just cuz i think short looks better anyway..
But I apply this logic to almost any games I play.. like valhalla where i just see my stamina/health and nothing else)

Subtitles stay on because I want to listen in a game’s original language whenever possible. In this case, Korean.
Makes sense! The Korean track does sound excellent here with a lot more emotion.
They added Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain to the video settings.

@allandm For me it heavily depends on the intensity of it. When there's a slider, I do tend to keep it on but will move it down from 10 to 1-3. I find then it still does it's job of hiding poor textures but without making the image look incredibly noisy.
You won't be the only one though! I can understand the appeal behind the effect and I have kept it on for Stellar Blade myself. 😊

This is uhh a valid criticism. 😂 In my defence, I'm just saying that personally I prefer subs off, but for those who keep them on, enabling character names is a solid option :)

I don't know why but i struggle to play games with subtitles on anyway as for some reason i end up reading them and not looking at the game itself, good upload mate, sensitivity helped me a bit so nice one, the rest i had my own preferences already set, game should be censorship free ngl, Sony fine with that 🤢 🤮 🤢 yacht scene in TLOU2 but not ok with SB? Makes zero sense unless there is actually an agenda at play here, these conspiracy theories keep turning to facts as time goes by.

I never check my setting thats not the first thing i do i go in i play oh this game is kind of dark bla bla bla let me see i turn the brightness and the rgb setting up thats it and i always loot items dont need auto pick up
That's why they exist, for us to finetune our preferences so of course you don't need to check them but there are sometimes some super cool options in there; take the physics based swinging dial in SM2 for example :)
Why would you talk about frame rates to do perfect parries etc but recommend setting to balanced resolution. Go performance
If you watch DF's breakdown of the different modes, the actual framecount you get on balanced and performance is very very similar, but the visual uptake you have on balanced vs performance is much larger than the performance gap between the 2, so it is definitely the preferred option for me. The extra 2-3 frames you might get in performance aren't as important to me as the bumped resolution and other bonuses of the balanced mode :)

Oh of course, that's what this has to be 😊 The goal of these videos is to save people time from going in and out of the menu constantly and testing each out to see what's best, so they get the best experience from the get-go.
These videos are of course more useful when there are a lot more options, so the GOW, SM2, Helldivers 2 vids etc I all did in the same way. 😊

I prefer it off and see the loot soils after a fight, and to actually scan before moving on to see if I did miss somethIng. More immersive to me.

I do have it on! 😊 Just when recording, it washes colours out so I always disable it when using my capture card to record my screen for videos.

@Erdna1961 Depends on the monitor really. If it's got actual true HDR, then I'd keep it on, but if peak brightness of HDR isn't any different from standard and it's there just for the HDR label on the box, keep it off.

I love the auto loot but the auto lock doesn't work properly in my opinion, lastly i prefer the game in the original language and subtitles in English that's because the English voices are horrible really even in Spanish sounds better.

Another setting change: Language Korean as the English Dub is terrible. I'm dead serious the Korean voice acting has more emotion in the characters & you get a better sense of how they are truly reacting to the world, which was on the biggest criticism from "Professional" outlets. Sure you will have to read the subtitles but definitely worth it in the long run

Motion blur always off. Motion blur is a crutch game makers use to hide graphical problems related to movement. It is not realistic and even causes some major health issues for some players making it so they can't even play a game that has it on or forces it on. It should honestly be banned in game making.

Those are 2 separate things! The enhanced combat option is covered, and is essentially the auto lock on, sensitivity options etc.
The ability to increase visual fidelity is all in the bits in relation to motion blur, graphics mode, screen shake etc.
A thumbnail's job is to represent the content of the video without actually being the video. Those settings shown in the thumbnail are overarching settings that are achieved through multiple other settings listed in the video. Hope that makes sense and that you agree! 😊
