Keep in mind that I’d your favorites aren’t on this list, they may show up later on the PS5 or Switch lists, I wanted to make sure there’s no overlap ❤❤❤
Alliance Alive was such a pleasant surprise for me. I hadn't heard of it before the remaster, and it was just so good! Well worth a purchase. Now I'm looking forward to the Legend of Legacy remaster as well
Dana in a thumbnail always makes me click a video! Great list, nice to see some DQ Heroes love! The Crossbell arc is definitely the best Trails offers, plus Noel being one of my favorite party members!
Love this idea. Can't wait to see the other parts, and this one has just begun. Always just awesome to see videos like this drop, get ideas for stuff I may have overlooked or just to keep an eye out for them more then I have. Tales of Vesperia and DQ XI I own, still have to get to them though. Have never played a Ys or Trails game before, but have been exposed to Trails (and to a lesser extent Ys) through a friend streaming. I feel I've played a game in the Mana series when I was a kid, but I truly don't remember clearly enough to say, so might be the time to pick it up and go through it. I've dabbled in some Atelier games, have picked up Iris 2 & 3 (still need to get the 1st though) and have a few of the Ps3 ones, what i've played is fun, but haven't dove into it as much as I feel I should - plan on fixing that soon enough though. I was wondering when Ni No Kuni was going to show up lol. I played it for a decent amount on PS3, need to finish it up though. I heard of Studio Ghibli prior to Ni No Kuni, and thats actually what drew me in. I have the Remaster and the Sequel for Ps4, and plan on going through them soon as well, the backlog truly is a problem lol. I've heard so much good about Star Ocean, although I've only played Star Ocean Till The End of Time on Ps2, but did enjoy my time with the game. The Heroes series seems really cool, although as someone who grew up playing Turn Based, I def take a while to get into the ARPG, least if they came from a Turn based series. A Live A Live I've heard so much praise for but never got into it back in the day, well never had the interest back then, but maybe it time to change and amend that. Fantastic List for sure. Only Games that come to mind for me, and this is just personally from enjoying them would be: Dark Cloud 1 & 2, Digimon Story Cyber Slueth and CS Hackers Memory, Digimon World Next Order (may not be a JRPG and more of a RPG, but still felt to say). Another absolute incredible video. Cheers to you and your family, may you all have a fantastic day.
If you haven't checked them out yet Studio Ghibli definitely has some amazing movies. Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, & Grave of the Fireflies would probably be my top 3 suggestions. Be warned that Grave of the Firelies can be a really depressing movie though, but I think it really is a masterpiece.
I'm surprised you didn't know about Studio Ghbli before Ni No Kuni. Spirited Away won an Oscar in 2002 up against 2 Disney movies. One of them being Lili and Stich, which Sprited Away even made more at the box office than.
I don’t really watch movies in general, and when I was 20 I wasn’t watching animated movies, I was grappling with coming out, getting kicked out and trying to work 3 jobs to support myself.
Of these, I've played Dragon quest 11, Nino Kuni, Trials of Mana, Alliance alive. I would rank those four below average to so-so. If it weren't for Persona and Yakuza, I would have completely lost hope in the future of JRPGs.
I loved The World Ends With You on the DS, and the NEO one is underated as hell, with cool battles and a very stylish world and characters. Persona is great, but few people mention Strikers, which is very similar to DQ Heroes 2 (own both and love them to death). Great list, by the way. Played a few of them, and the rest are currently downloaded on my PS4 waiting for their turn. Backlogs are dreadful!
The PS4 really does have such an insane library of RPGs. It's still wild to think that one of the entries on this list came out when the system was about to turn ten years old!
2:01 The 2d mode saved so much of my OG switch's battery 😂 2:57 Also was on Vita even though I ended up buying the switch version I almost got the Vita one 3:42 I haven't got around to playing Azure yet even though I own it. 3:42 I bought both the collection and Trials because I loved and adored Seiken Densetsu 3 so dang much 😊
My manager at work was kind enough to give me her old PS4 now that she got a PS5 for Christmas so I am going to give all the games here that I don't have already on the Switch special priority.
I really loved your list! Long time lurker and first time commentor for your videos and channel but, I recently re-tried the demo for Dragon Quest XI S ended up really enjoying it! Started playing Azure today since I finished Zero recently. Added Star Ocean 2 to my list when I get the chance, pending on purchasing Dragon Quest Warriors II but... not sure if it would work on my PS5 or if they'll actually port of the duology Switch version in the future. That said great list!
Ni Np Kuni, Trials of Mana, Star Oceasn and Alliance games pickued my interest. Thanks David for the upbeat and interesting videos on my beloved RPG genre
Going to have to pick up Trials of Mana soon for sure, still need to play through the collection of originals as well! Too much to play, too little time ugh. Hope you're enjoying the land of the rising sun!
It's a great game. I picked it up shortly after release. My biggest issue was the voice acting, mostly of the main healer girl. Most annoying voice over I've heard.
@@bicenhower7 I do not mean that to deter you from playing it. It's 100% worth playing. 1 character voice shouldn't ruin the experience. I just didn't use her lol
Dragon Quest 11 is one of my favourite jrpgs of all time, although I have only played the demo on the Switch! It must be fun to play both 2d and 3d. Let's hope by the Gods that DQ12 will also be turn-based!
Good reminder that I need to pick back up on Dragon Quest Heroes II. Plus I did snag the first one and heard it's worth the journey even if you've played 2.
you saying the Atelier series has the best spinoffs just reminded me of how much I want the Mana Khemia games to come to modern consoles I never buy full priced games but I would buy those as soon as they come out, they were so good also I haven´t played most games on this list (thanks for the recommendations btw), but so far the best ones I played myself were Yakuza 7 and Octopath Traveler 2, I was honestly surprised you didn´t put either on the list but maybe these are better and I just don´t know yet
"No harem antics in Trails to Azure." What? There are literally multiple girls who are implied to have a crush on Lloyd Bannings including maybe even his older sister figure. If you take Cecile to the fortune teller and she asks about Lloyd's future wife, she says there are so many suitors that she couldn't possibly pinpoint who it might be. Heck, Trails to Azure literally has a "beach episode" (which is VERY prominent in most harem anime) in the Intermission of the game before the main plot with Crossbell's Independence. Even many of the events that take place during that intermission involves Lloyd falling into the antics of a harem MC such as applying sunscreen on the girls. (The side mission of the monster removing a female character's swimsuit anyone?) There are statements of accusing Lloyd of being a playboy despite just being nice and having good manners involving every girl he meets. This is also right out of a playbook of a harem anime. Seriously, this statement couldn't be further from the truth. Are you sure we played the same game?
The PS4 is a JRPG heaven and my favorite system of all time. I love the Falcom love in here! Dragon Quest XI is the best jrpg on the system for me ˆˆ Looking forward to your Switch list and I'm expecting FF7 Remake on your PS5 list!
I would like to mention Grand Kingdom. This title was a big surprise on the ps4 for me. Also Ps4 had so many RPG-Gems.. but i am sure the Ps5 will get on that level in 2024 too.
I just beat dq11 and vpg has a reprint of Dana so I’ve preordered that. Hey I have a question for you. Does it bother you that Ryza 1 has English voice acting and the 2 sequels don’t?

Looking forward to the other videos in the series! I have 9 of these but none on PS4… 8 of them I have for Switch and one for PS3 😂 my PS4 pick for this list would be Scarlet Nexus - it’s a NieR clone sure but a stylish one that’s loads of fun to play and has a great soundtrack
This list is stacked!! Theres a few games in here that ive considered adding to my backlog like Atelier Ryza, YS 8 and Alliance Alive. FFVIIRemake, Nier Automata, Ni No Kuni 2, Persona5, Chained Echoes, Sea of Stars!!!

I have to mention Yakuza Like a Dragon here as being deserving of at least an honourable mention
Berseria for me.
Damn that game really have me my fix for RPG :)
Glad to see all the Falcom love in this video. Trails to Azure is definitely the best Trails game to date.
Love that Azure got a mention!
The Square / Tokyo RPGFactory games (I am Setsuna, Lost Sphear, Oninaki) are honorable mentions for me.
