With the SaGa Emerald Beyond demos, it's been wild as a member of the SaGa subreddit, as people get on there and ask questions about a demo I played, but start talking about scenarios I did not encounter at all. So even in the demos there are several possible situations and outcomes! I think that's super cool and I can't wait to see how varied playthroughs will be in the full game.
I've been following Kingdoms of the Dump on Instagram for years. I'm so happy and excited to see games like that and Secret of Grindea finally getting full releases and recognition!
This whole time I've been saying that Eiyuden Chronicle releases later this month, and it made it feel like it was still 30 days away. Then I just looked at the calendar. Only 13 days left. This isn't just a hype game release for me. There's never going to be another time in my life when my favorite video game of all time gets a true to form spiritual successor It might as well be a continuation. That S1 and S2 remasters are also releasing this year (supposedly, wtf konami) Is icing on the cake.
Excellent list. I don't cry at gaming though I do get some feels when my favorites boot up. But I will probably have tears in my eyes the first time I see Viktor and Flick again.
Just curious, do Quartet and Beloved Rapture have the sort of quirky, Earthbound-style dialogue? Just as indie games, that's always something I look for.
One of my best friends is developing Beloved Rapture. I'm so proud of him to see how committed he is to it and how much it has grown since he started working on it. It's going to be a massive hit!
Eiyuden Chronicle, Sand Land, SMTV Vengeance, Trails Through Daybreak, Visions of Mana, Metaphor ReFantazio, Ys X: Nordics, Suikoden 1+2 Remasters, and Decapolice are my most excited for games for this year so far yet to come out. If we get a surprise announcement for 2024 for the Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake, I wouldn't be sad either :). There's apparently a big summer announcement coming up for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf too. If that gets a late 2024 release, I'll also be excited for that, as I've loved for the most part what has come before in that series.
Its wonderful to see a youtuber with such love for JRPGS! Trails through Daybreak, YS X, & Visions of Mana looking forward to playing the most!!!! Loved that you mentioned Skies of Arcadia I truly love that game! I would love to see a Skies of Arcadia remake or sequel or even a prequel just anything to travel those skies again!
What a great Video, I am very excited for most of these and forgot about a few you have listed. also added new title like Beloved Rapture to the Steam Wishlist. I gotta work on my current backlog now to prepare for these.
This year is so stacked. I can't keep up! It's a love hate scenario for me. I love that we have so many games coming out that interest me, but at the same time, I hate that I don't have the time for them. Thanks for the video David, big props to everthing that you do.
Hi David! Sitting here watching this video in bed as I'm trying to get over a bad cold or allergies or whatever this awful chest congestion sinus thing is. A bright spot in an otherwise meh day. Have a blessed day!
It really is a stacked year and almost every one of these are going to be bangers it seems like! As a 39-year-old with two kids and a wife I’m not sure how much of me they’re going to see this year 😂😂.
Speaking of Ys, I hope the idea that Adol dies at 64 is retconned sometime (stated in a guidebook back in the '90s). Way too early. Adol deserves to reach 90 or so.
Paper Mario TTYD is still my favourite JRPG I'm looking forward to! So many good games though, so hard to decide what to play first once everything is in my collection 😅
Whats you playing at the moment David? I just finished ghost of tsushima and now have started the new prince of persia the lost crown. A great metroidvania
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door is MY birthday gift. Though it comes out a week before my birthday (May 31.) It's a game I've wanted to see remade the most. Ys 10, what else can I say, it's a must have on my collection. Already have Ys 8 and 9 and even Ys Orgin. Just a slew of great RPG games
Excited for SMTV Vengeance, Trails through Daybreak, Visions of Mana, Ys 10, Metaphor Refantazio and the Suikoden remasters. Also might try Eiyuden Chronicles since it's coming out soon.
My birthday is July 4 and all I want is the perfect gift I’m getting: the new TRAILS installment!! So psyched for that and many others of these. Great list!
I might be in the minority, but I wish these SNES-inspired RPGs would do a bit more to differentiate themselves from each other and maybe do more to improve the production values. Even basic voice acting or original UI's would help make the games feel more fresh while still retaining the SNES look & mechanics. I enjoyed these old school RPGs growing up, and I love that we've been seeing them return to popularity, but games like Octopath Traveler 2 have spoiled me. I'm not expecting them to go as deep or be as visually impressive as a game made by Square, but indie devs could learn a few things on how to spice up & separate their "Chrono Trigger-inspired" JRPGs from each other.
The countdown for SMT V:V is driving me crazy lol. That, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and Beloved Rapture are going to be very exciting releases. So many other gems too!
You ever play Astoria: Holders of Power? That was another great indy RPG! It was a bit short but I greatly enjoyed what I played!! Great choice of music at the 11 minute mark by the way... Chrono Cross! That was one of my favorite game soundtracks!!
1:30- Wait, is it truly releasing this month? I'm getting conflicting results, because GameStop's website lists it as releasing on May 21, like a lot of sources keep saying it was delayed to, but then you have the Switch eShop where it's still listed under April 23.
I wish I had time to play all these games... (sigh) Btw its actually a return to form for the paper series. It's been years since the last paper mario game. Even longer for a good one. I couldn't care for sticker star or color splash though I did hear origami king was good.
Is Daybreak available for JPN already? Will Visions be MP pr not? There are not enough GOOD story based RPG's(I don't count MMO's, only offline RPG's count), we have Secret Of Mana, Mana 2 and Trinity Trigger. What else is there? Is the new Fantasy ACTUALLY a sequel or remake?
OMG I will eat up all the Eiyuden Cronicles footage you bless me with. Another rare preorder for me. I know what we both will be doing the day that comes out. hahaha
Honestly im a little worried about suikoden remastered games. It's been like delayed two times and right now is on a unknown release date. From what yhe previews were showing it was a small quick remaster. So either they decided to add more development time yo make it bigger. they're pulling a advanced wars remake ehen they hold it back a fully complete game for the lulz.
Thank you! I always find some new gems by following your recommendations. The only problem is that 2024 has too many games. I’m still playing granblue fantasy relink.
