Thanks for making a crestie video, it seems like the hobby is kind of forgetting about them but they are awesome animals and deserve the best husbandry as all animals do
I feed all my geckos both insect and commercial diet including fresh fruit smoothies. Its a no brainer that insects are much needed and is very beneficial. After all, they get both insects and fruit in the wild.
Allan Repashy and De Vosjoli wild caught the founder Rhacodactylus and started a colony in the 1990s, which grew to 1000s of geckos and is the source of all our pets. The Repashy diets have the longest history of testing and proven success. Some other brands have more dyes and sugar, which only improves palatability at the cost of nutrition. Repashy is the original and I personally want to support the small business that brought these amazing animals to us in the first place. But I absolutely agree that live insects are an essential part of a healthy crested gecko's diet.

@@ReptilesandResearch I was getting burned out by the static tub and rack keepers... Someone actually said kingsnakes are overrated and mean which is the opposite of my experience. But, keep any animal in an opaque tub with no stimulus and what would you expect?? It's been refreshing to see the other side represented so well.
Thanks for this video. I've been dipping my toe into this subject for all my New Caledonians. A follow-up question, if I may: Do we know whether faster early growth and weight gain correlate to long-term improvements in health and longevity? I know in some other (completely unrelated) animals, "growing them up slower" is, to a point, better for the animal's long term prospects.
@@bluefrogcreations6132 good question, I think that might be more a question of quantity of food rather than quality. I’d still like them to have the best quality diet during development and after. Have to think carefully about over feeding them.
Appreciate the video. I don't have a crested but my Moro Island Leachie loves her Pangea (any of the flavors w/insects). She won't touch whole insects (either live or dried) though she will smash a banana or mango when offered. It is very animal dependent it seems but I always make sure that her powdered diet has insect protein and then offer fresh fruit as a treat.
I try to find products where insects are the first ingredent. I'd like to try emerald roaches but don't know if my geckoes will eat them,or will the green color put them off?
